Why was the title changed from the perfectly fine "Charles Brackett"?
Is he ever referred to as "Charles William Brackett" except in contexts where a full legal name is required? Not that I can see.
Is there any other notable Charles Brackett, from whom we need to disambiguate? Again, not that I can see.
But even if there were another CB, it would have been FAR better to use a tag like "Charles Bracket {producer)" or whatever, because the general reader could not be expected to know that the neurophysicist Charles Brackett's middle name is Egbert but the producer Charles Brackett's middle name is William, so having William in the title is of little or no benefit to anyone.
