Charaka's knowledge of genetics edit

Charaka knew the fundamentals of genetics.[1] For instance, he knew the factors determining the sex of a child. A genetic defect in a child, like lameness or blindness, he said, was not due to any defect in the mother or the father, but in the ovum or sperm of the parents (an accepted fact today). -Mohanbhan (talk) 03:16, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

Charaka or any of the Ancient Indians never had known about Ovum. Almost all scriptures treated Semen as a seed (‘Beeja’). They never realised that it wasn’t the semen but the Sperm cells that did the job ChandlerMinh (talk) 05:31, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
