Orphaned references in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

35th Installment? By what count?

I think the claim that Lords of Shadow 2 is the 35th installment in the franchise should be approached with caution and specific clarification. A few points:

I can't come up with Lords of Shadow 2 being the 35th game by ANY count (closest I came was 36); if someone wants to keep this assertion intact, it'd be useful to provide a listing (here on the talk page) of just which 34 games come beforehand.

Castlevania has an extensive back catalog of games in various forms. A handful were released only in Japan, a few remakes and re-releases have been pumped out along the way, serious name changes have occurred between Japan, North America, and Europe, etc. Which games are being included? Only those released in the US? If so, does this include downloadable games such as Harmony of Despair on PSN and XBL, The Adventure ReBirth on WiiWare, and Rondo of Blood on Wii's Virtual Console? Does it only include console releases, or does it include the North American arcade-only Haunted Castle? Does Castlevania Chronicles count twice since it was released once on the MSX2 (not in North America) and then again on the PlayStation eight years later? What about physical re-releases, such as the original game making its way to the GBA or digital North American re-releases such as Super Castlevania IV (SNES originally) making its way to the Wii Virtual Console? Does the SNES' Dracula X count since it was really just an American version of Rondo of Blood albeit with significant changes? Similarly, where does The Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP fall? It includes 2 previous games but also a "new" game which is a remake of a then-Japan only Rondo of Blood? If Rondo of Blood is counted as a release, are these 2 as well?

Simply saying that Lords of Shadow 2 is the 35th installment is confusing and misrepresentative of the series....there are several different "counts" one could take for total number of Castlevania games, and if we're counting the ultimate total across all countries the total hits 40, negating cross-platform releases, retitling of identical games in different territories, and re-releases (such as Castlevania Chronicles and Rondo of Blood - neither of which made it to North America initially but appeared later; which begs the question, in a total count are these discrete releases counted separately or not?).

It's difficult to come up with a sort of "master list" of Castlevania - it's much easier to group them like "North American Castlevania Game," "Japanese Castlevania Games," "Remakes and Re-Releases," etc. Personally I feel that the "35th" quantifier should be removed. Once you get past the first few releases (and even then problems arise) it's difficult to call a game "the 11th" or "the 23rd Castlevania game." However, if someone wants to provide a listing backing up their reasoning behind including "35" and clarify as much in the article, I would be ok with that. Even then, I think that going to the trouble to say something similar to "this is the 35th physical release on a North American console in the Castlevania series" is cumbersome; the very nature of the difficulty of putting together a comprehensive listing of Castlevania games without grouping them makes the assertion irrelevant at worst and confusing at best.
