There is a mini-monograph on this species, which might provide useful information for expanding the article:

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Laab im Walde - Bärenberg - Gelbwürfeliger Dickkopffalter (Carterocephalus palaemon).jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on July 29, 2016. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2016-07-29. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 13:18, 12 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

The chequered skipper (Carterocephalus palaemon) is a butterfly of the family Hesperiidae named for its uppersides, which are dark brown with a dusting of orange scales at the base of the wings and golden spots. It is widely distributed in northern and central Europe, and its range extends across Asia and Japan, and into North America.Photograph: Haeferl

Editing/Review edit

Hi! Page doesn't look too bad, but there is a lot of information that could be added to the page. I started the Mating section to get that going. I added mate behavior through a source that I found online. In addition, some grammar mistakes were fixed as well. Good luck! Jenniferra (talk) 04:30, 5 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I think you've made a good start on your page. I really like the information about the conservation of the species as well as the pictures you included. However, one glaring error is the lack of citations, as this is very important for Wikipedia. I found one of the articles that you used and included the citation but you should add the other citations for the information that you included. I made a few edits to fix typos and grammatical errors, and I revised the Caterpillar paragraph under food sources to improve the flow. Overall I thought you did a good job! Behavior Ecology Class Edit edit

Hello all,

This is good article. However, there are no citations. This is a rather big issue as having citations is very important to follow wikipedia guidelines. I see that you have your sources listed below the article but they need to be cited in the text as well. Other than that, I added the scientific name of the species in parenthesis to the overview. I also added a citation for this name. It was also the citation for your mating section. I edited the mating section as well. I removed the exact verbatim quote that you had and put the information into my own words and cited that information as well. I also rewrote other parts of this section that seemed close to the source material. I added a citation as well. Finally, I removed the subsection name because I thought that it did not really communicate any additional information compared to the main title. Also, I would ask that the life cycle section be more complete. Though all the sections other than the caterpillar section are a little thin, I think the pupa section could especially use more information. There is only one sentence in the section. Overall, I think this article is a good start and is on its way! Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vkrishnan2 (talkcontribs) 02:31, 6 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Chequered skipperCarterocephalus palaemon – "Chequered skipper" is ambiguous, referrring also to Kedestes lepenula, Large chequered skipper, and spelled "checkered" to species in the genera Pyrgus and Burnsius. • Comment. If "chequered skipper" truly is ambiguous, then Chequered skipper should be a disambiguation page. Then move this article to Arctic skipper, as that common name does not appear to be ambiguous. Rreagan007 (talk) 19:00, 14 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
    • Yes, the current title of this page should redirect to the existing disambiguation page at checkered skipper. As for using "arctic skipper" instead, this is reasonable but I think the Latin is better here given that is that name will make more sense to European users, is probably more commonly used overall (my assumption borne out by a quick check of Google Scholar which shows 10x the result for "Carterocephalus palaemon" over "arctic skipper", and matches what is done for most other butterfly articles.Somatochlora (talk) 19:47, 14 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Most butterfly species have the binomial as the title, except some very common and widely recognised species, of which, sadly, this is not one. YorkshireExpat (talk) 22:01, 17 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
