Article Rename Straw Poll

Local governments and organizations are beginning to drop the "Carquinez Bridge" to the "Al Zampa Bridge". Should we move this article accordingly?

• Don't move unless the article is split. My understanding is that only the new span is called the "Al Zampa Memorial Bridge". This article has info about that bridge and the older spans. Since the new name already redirects here, that is a good solution. Also, I live in the Bay Area and I have yet to hear anyone refer to the bridge by its new name. The policy is to name articles with their most commonly used names. In this case that would be the Carquinez Bridge. -- Samuel Wantman 9 July 2005 03:07 (UTC)

Issue of plurality

The Carquinez Bridges are the only bridges that are separate westbound and eastbound, thus, it should be named the Carquinez Bridges with an "s". Note that the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is also composed of three bridge spans, but they are all linked together, so it is in a sense, a complete "bridge" between San Francisco and Oakland.

I nominate renaming this article "Carquinez Bridges" as they are a set of separate bridges. --Geopgeop 08:37, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Don't Move unless the article is split. Absolutely nobody calls it the "Carquinez Bridges", I know there's other multiple bridges which go under one name, such as the Des Plaines Bridge, in Illinois. Also it gives the assumption that the Zampa Bridge is a "Carquinez Bridge", when the old span is really what the Carquinez Bridge is. ---LBMixPro^{(Speak on it!)} 20:40, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Three bridges?

No. The suspension bridge serves westbound traffic. The old 1920s bridge is being dismantled and the 1950s bridge serves eastbound traffic. --LBMixPro^{<Speak|on|it!>} 20:06, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Article reorganization

Could this article be reorganized changing "History and description" into three sections? (1) "Original span (1927-2007)" (2) "Parallel span (1958)" and (3) Alfred Zampa Memorial Bridge (2003 replacement span)". This would better setup the article if it does need to split in the future. Aagghh!!!

OK, don't laugh. I just wrote, but thankfully deleted in time, a complaint that the only map illustrated is a mere inset, showing a strictly local view naming cities none of which I—ignorant doofus as I am, to be sure—have heard of, and that you also need to show a map of all of California, and perhaps one of the U.S. as well, to show us the bridge's location.

Just as I was about to press Send, I thot I'd better go back to the article one more time and see what the zoom icon on the map does. Upon which, of course, my doofus world imploded and I found a fully functional map, whose default initial state could not be a more informative view of much of California and the bridge's location therein, and allowing one to zoom in & out to one's doofus heart's content.

Ergo, I suggest—well, nah; I still escalate it to a complaint:

All a zoom icon tells me is that you can blow up the inset itself to a large size. You need to add a caption telling the user that it will launch a fully functional map of any desired extent.
