Missing captains edit

French wiki article on Guidobaldo da Montefeltro suggests he was made captain of the church in 1496, presumably between the two Borgias. -LlywelynII (talk) 14:59, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Giovanni Rucellai edit

I'm doubtful whether Giovanni di Bernardo Rucellai should be in this list. The source for his inclusion, Chalmer's Biographical Dictionary, reads thus: "On the elevation of Leo X, and the appointment of his nephew Lorenzo to the government of Naples, Ruccellai is supposed to have accompanied the latter to Rome, when he went to assume the insignia of captain-general of the church". I can't read that to mean anything other than what it says, that Rucellai is supposed to have gone to Rome with Lorenzino when he, Lorenzino, went to receive his insignia from his uncle. Are there other sources that confirm Rucellai's appointment? Other biographies, such as that by Manzoni, editor of the complete works of Rucellai, in the Encyclopedia Italiana of 1936 do not mention it. Sorry, I had been meaning to respond to your note above and only remembered when I saw your edit today. I had a look when you first posted your note and couldn't find any other source that suggested he had ever been Captain General. I would be inclined to read that passage the same way you have. A good edit I think. Stalwart111 01:04, 6 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
