Start and finish in lead?

edit

I'm not completely sure about this, but aren't the start and finish of the challenge by definition at Red Ball Garage and the Portofino Hotel respectively? If so, then it would make sense to put that in the lead section:

Red Ball Garage[1] on the east side of Manhattan to the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach in Redondo Beach, a total of 2,825.3 miles (4,546.9 km)

I agree with Pieceofmetalwork, this is not a race from New York City to LA but a race between two addresses and that should be in the lead. HighAtop94 (talk) 14:34, 23 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
In general this is the case, but the "original Cannonball" (the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash) used a number of different start locations, undermining the idea of a "historically authentic" start location. Due to the informal nature of the Cannonball, there is no clear "definition" of the start/end. Furthermore, future coast-to-coast records potentially using different start/end points would probably not meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for an article of their own, and instead would probably fall under the purview of this article, so I believe that it's best to keep the described definition/format of the route open to alterations. Yet another new record in 2020?

edit

The Road & Track website says here:

https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a32475343/cannonball-record-broken-again-may-2020-sub-26/

That the Audi A8L record has already been broken. The new record is "under 26 hours." The victors and the exact time are not mentioned in the article. Mcvoorhis (talk) 23:46, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Someone added the 25:39 run that Tabbutt and Toman ran, but the unidentified sub-26 run is still there. I think that was what Bolian was talking about when he said that someone had beaten the 26 hours by a considerable amount. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.145.129.181 (talk) 15:45, 20 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Why include Fred Ashmore's claimed run

edit

Why is Fred Ashmore's claimed 25:55:55 included in the "List of Records" section? It is most likely inauthentic according to all independent parties, and would not have been a record at the time even if it was legitimate, as it took place in June 2020 -- after the 25:39 that was completed in May.

I suggest these sentences should be removed from the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Silenditor (talkcontribs) 11:20, 9 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

This entire article is kind of in a screwed up state, because you can't call any of this a record, as there is no officiating body. All it is, is a bunch of people claiming that they went across the US in a certain time. If RS's covered this event happening, then we should include it, but we should also include the nuance of it like it being called into doubt. It's not our job to decide if it's fake or not, that's the RS's job. Sea Cow (talk) 15:06, 9 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Supporting evidence for the most recent motorcycle record by Felix Hofmann?

edit

Are there supporting articles for this claim? Google search does not produce any information about this record or a relevant racer by this name. 50.124.81.19 (talk) 23:35, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I’m part of the cannonball community that keeps up with runs and regularly updates the recognized spreadsheet that lists all runs. We have had recent discussions on the hoffman record and have zero evidence that it is a legitimate run. There is no supporting evidence the verify the claims. 38.240.111.197 (talk) 21:10, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
