Harold Bamberg

Seem to have some conflict about Bamberg early history, it is quoted that he was a Sgt pilot in the RAF from 1940 but he was naturalised as a British citizen until 1949. So it looks like he was a German alien serving in the RAF. Have we any independent (not self-declared) references to his wartime service. Thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 22:01, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

user MilborneOne: In my opinion, whether Bamberg served during WWII in the RAF as a UK or foreign citizen is only of secondary importance as far as this article is concerned because it is about British Eagle, the airline (as opposed to Harold Bamberg, the person). Therefore, the statement at the beginning of this article, referring to H.R. Bamberg as a wartime pilot is, strictly speaking, correct. The citizenship issue is irrelevant in this context and doesn't need any further elaboration through additional citations. Therefore, I'm going to remove the tage asking for further citations. Please, don't get me wrong; I don't dispute what you're saying. However, until you or any other interested Wikipedian can produce reliable evidence supporting your statement that he (Bamberg) was indeed an alien in the UK until after WWII, we shouldn't change it. For example, 30-odd years ago, I knew someone who worked in Bamberg's office at British Eagle and claimed that he was Jewish. He may well be of German-Jewish origin. But I can't prove it. There are many other cases involving well-known people whose origins/personal backgrounds are disputed -- eg, Freddie Laker's original name wasn't Laker; Bill Clinton wasn't born William Jefferson Clinton; etc, etc. Unless a Wikipedia article specifically deals with these people, such issues tend to distract from the article's subject matter when individuals are related to companies/organisations/charities etc, where the latter are the article's subjects. Please also be careful when quoting citations disputing the "official version" of personal backgrounds ... some authors have an agenda to run down a particular individual by blackening their reputation and/or making unverifiable claims about them. I was not really disputing his nationality but the fact that he was in the RAF which appears to be only sourced from Bamberg himself. I dont need need to guess about his nationality as he took an oath of allegiance for naturalisation on 7 February 1949 (refer London Gazette entry for Harald Rolf Bamberg on that date) so before that would have been an alien. All I was looking for was an independent source that he was a wartime pilot. Perhaps it may be better leaving it out of this article as not really relevant to British Eagle. Orphaned references in British Eagle

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of British Eagle's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Thank you, clever little bot. There were plenty of other references for the sentences that the two instances of the orphan reference were used as cites, so I deleted the orphans.GraemeLeggett (talk) 19:14, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
