Name origins edit

While I've excised one name origin, I'm of the mind that another might be appropriate: Boone's surname "Carlyle" is a reference to Thomas Carlyle, the Victorian-era essayist and historian, who believed in following leaders/heroes, as expressed in his work, "On Heroes and Hero Worship" (1841). This ties in to Boone's connection to John Locke, who had been an earlier era essayist on political philosophy. I believe this has been mentioned elsewhere; can anyone find a good reference? Remove Boone from Lost Main Characters edit

Hey,

I think that Boone, as well as the other Losties who have died (R.I.P) should be moved from the "Lost Main Characters" thiing and moved to somewhere like "Supporting Characters" because they have died.

R.I.P 84.71.163.201 18:34, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

agreed. boone, shannon, ana lucia, libby, mr eko, nikki, paulo and shannon should all be removed. charlie should stay for the meantime as he could still be regarded important to the immediate plot. maybe the infobox could have a "deceased" section? unless that could be regarded a spoiler...

That's a bit recentist, don't you think? What makes the presence as a main character in 2008 more notable than being one in 2004?~ZytheTalk to me! 21:46, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Here's the link to Wikipedia:Recentism. –thedemonhog talkedits 01:41, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh hell no you didn't, how dare you speak badly of Boone the best damn character to ever appear on Lost. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.248.58.225 (talk) 22:29, 2 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Five edit

The reference for Boone having been called Five is on the DVD audio commentary for Pilot: Part 1. Apparently he was called that when the pilot episode was first filmed and then when it was decided to scrap that, they dubbed the name Boone over all references to Five and ended up with Jack's story he tells Kate when she stitches his back saying "I counted one, two, three, four, Boone." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.38.64.126 (talk) 21:51, 24 January 2007 (UTC).Reply

Errors edit

Why did he die? If Naomi can heal in a day, why couldn't Boone. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cube b3 (talkcontribs) 11:39, 7 May 2007 (UTC).Reply

GA review edit

Hello, good article review comments follow:

  • Think it's done "When Boone is ten years old..." vs "When Boone was twenty years old..." - need consistent tense throughout.
  • Done "...chief operating officer in New York City of his mother's business..." swap "in New York City" and "of his mother's business" around.
  • Done "...deceived by Jack to retrieve a pen." - perhaps "deceived into retrieving a pen by Jack"?
  • Done Wikilink first use of Jack Shephard at this point, not later when he tries to save Boone.*First four sentences of second para of After the crash section could flow better - merge into two sentences.
  • Done "Boone is very controlling of Shannon, whom he is in love with.[22]" strange stand-alone single-sentence paragraph...
  • Done, although I have left past tenses describing real life and the present tense describing fiction as ths is correct. Tenses in the Characteristics switch around again - need to be consistent.
  • Done Ensure all references are placed per WP:CITE (e.g. [8], [27], [29] etc).
    • I'm not too sure what you mean by this. Isn't everything properly cited? --thedemonhog talkedits 17:59, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
      • It's the placement - WP:CITE recommends placing citations immediately to the right hand side of punctuation with no space between. Hope that helps. The Rambling Man 21:50, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
        • There are a few instances where it is not after punctuation, but is immediately preceded by an "and," so that seems okay. --thedemonhog talkedits 22:25, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
          • Well I think to really meet WP:CITE these could be moved to the end of the sentence in question. It doesn't matter if you have multiple citations per sentence, and it looks a lot better than just adding a citation straight after a word. The Rambling Man 06:24, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
            • They are all after the periods now, which should mean that this can pass. --thedemonhog talkedits 18:38, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Done "Many of the main characters of the first season were created or rewritten with their actors in mind.[23] Unlike many other characters, Boone was largely the same." - these sentences seem to contradict each other.
  • Done Who is Abrams? Introduce and contextualise.

Not too much to deal with, so I'll place the article on hold pending the resolution of the above. All the best. The Rambling Man 17:04, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'll go through some and strike through your points as I deal with them. asyndeton 17:15, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

So will I. --thedemonhog talkedits 17:59, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
You got it, GA is yours, well done. The Rambling Man 19:09, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
My only hang-up would be the "Arc" section, which recalls the character's history from an in-universe persective. It adheres to the fabula as opposed to the sujet. Lost puts a lot of importance on the narrative revelations and the approach to chronology. Is it not counter-productive to order events on articles like these from the character's perspective?~ZytheTalk to me! 23:07, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
A case can be made like this for a character like Boone, whose entire pre-island backstory was revealed through the flashbacks of two episodes and whose island life was told over just eighteen episodes, but when we get to characters like Jack, it makes little sense to go by the order in which the show revealed his story when a fifth of the episodes that have aired to date have contained scenes of Jack outside of the main narrative. Coming to episodes such as "The Brig", it just does not make sense to tell the story in the same order that it is told in the show. –thedemonhog talkedits 10:12, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Last bits to do edit

Should we add that he has been involved with Locke a lot, as in appearing in his dream ("Theresa falls up the stairs, Theresa falls down the stairs") or does that become fancruft?

If not, we could be looking at nominating this for a FA review. What do you think? Calvin (talk) 21:03, 16 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Shouldn't this section bein in the Ian Somerholder article? edit

I believe this section should be in the Ian Somerholder article. This article is about the Character of Boone; wheras this paragraph is about the actor:

Somerhalder co-won the 2005 Screen Actors Guild Award for "Best Ensemble - Drama Series.[1] He was also nominated in the category of "TV: Choice Breakout Performance – Male" in the 2005 Teen Choice Awards, but lost to Desperate Housewives' Jesse Metcalfe, who plays John Rowland.[2] While starring on Lost, Somerhalder was voted one of "20 Teens Who Will Change the World" by Teen People, despite being 26 years old at the time. Teen People also called him "the next Johnny Depp."[3] He placed ninth on TV Guide's "Top Ten Hunks" list.[4]

thanks 165.138.95.59 (talk) 18:43, 14 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

It should be in both really; as you've said, it should be in the Somerhalder article because they're awards and polls he has been named in, but it should also be here because it is critical reception to Somerhalder's performance as Boone. I haen't restored the Teen People and "hunk" bit to the article though because it seems only tangentally related to Somerhalder's performance. Bradley0110 (talk) 18:19, 19 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page edit

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.
