1913 Demise of the Blue Grass League

edit

The main page currently has no mention of why the first incarnation of the league ceased to exist for the 1913 season. The league wanted to add a team in Covington. But that city was within the territorial rights of the Cincinnati NL team. Under the agreement between the major leagues and the association of minor leagues, Cincinnati had the right to refuse to allow a team in Covington. I don't know all the details, but it appears that the Blue Grass League sued the association, and the association countered by expelling the league. The latter action made all of the league's players free agents, free to sign with other teams in organized baseball.

This dispute and expulsion seems like an important historical aspect of the Blue Grass League, too important to have been left out of the article. 2601:98A:4100:1620:D5DD:7105:506F:5B35 (talk) 15:41, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
