Updates to Blue Cross page

Hi,

I need to change the Blue Cross logo that is appearing on The Blue Cross wiki page as it’s an old one. Blue Cross has since rebranded and we need to have the newest logo visible to people viewing this page.

Please can I have some instructions on how to go about changing the logo? I have tried the non-free content upload wizard but was unable to proceed with the upload, annoyingly it the form didn't tell me why I couldn't upload; the button was just greyed out...

Updates to Blue Cross page

I recently tried to make a number of updates to the Blue Cross Wikipedia page, which have been removed because of lack of citation. I am concerned about this because I linked to the website where possible to support the changes. To make my changes clearer, I am putting my requests on here.

I removed the use of 'Our Dumb Friends League' from the opening paragraph, moving the relevant citation to where the name is referred to again in the 'history' section. I did this because the meaning of the word 'dumb' has changed over time (just as the word 'gay' has) and can be viewed as offensive. I would appreciate it if this could be removed from the introductory paragraph.

"They operate four animal hospitals, three of which are in London, at Victoria, Merton and Hammersmith and a fourth in Grimsby, Lincolnshire[8] as well as operate mobile clinics throughout the country." This is incorrect. The do have just four hospitals, but elsewhere in the UK they have animal welfare clinics which offer reduced veterinary services - in Felixstowe, Bromsgrove, Tiverton and Southampton [1]

"Blue Cross is also heavily involved in animal adoption" - this is now referred to as rehoming and horses are only available on a loan service http://www.bluecross.org.uk/2075/giving-a-horse-a-home.html

"On 26 January 2010, Blue Cross announced the proposed closure of the two animal adoption centres (Felixstowe and Northiam (East Sussex)), both of which had been in existence for over 50 years. Final decisions on both sites were announced on 4 May 2010. The Felixstowe centre was saved after an extensive publicity campaign by locals." I removed this section because it refers to a decision made by the charity two years ago, which in news terms would now be considered out-of-date. For this to remain, I would want to see all decisions about various centres made since this time added to the site, so that this was one of many references. If you would prefer to take this approach, please let me know and I will give you an extensive updated section, which can be provided through the press release library [2]

"it also has arrangements with DogsBlog.com" It no longer has this arrangement - I am unable to provide a citation because it is no longer the case and is therefore no longer referenced on the website.

Hi Kevin,

thanks for your note, and apologies for any inconvenience, i'm sure we can get these changes made appropriately. For the new logo, you need to use the menu on the left and go to 'Toolbox', 'Upload file' and follow the instructions, selecting the fact that this is a copyrighted logo. I suggest we keep the old one further down in the history as a reference item.

For the original name, I think it is important to retain, as although the usage may have changed, to remove it is historical revisionism. I haven't got time to look at the changes today, but hope to get to them this week if poss, but in general terms they seem ok.

Our Dumb Friends League

I'm strongly tempted to add a note that the word dumb in "Our Dumb Friends League" does not mean "stupid" but rather "incapable of speech, so we have to speak up for them". But of course I can't as I don't have a source; I don't even know for sure that I'm right. It's a longshot, but does anyone have a source? --Trovatore (talk) 18:09, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
