Status of draft articles
Here's the status of articles for the members
- Jennie Kim has released a solo single that has topped Gaon and Billboard, so she meets WP:MUSICBIO #2 "Has had a single or album on any country's national music chart." Her "album" also reached number 2 on Gaon.
- Lisa (Thai singer) was recently created, but it's been poorly sourced, with the only RS pointing to her presence in Blackpink or her record-setting (for now) Instagram followers. If
{{notability}}
is "reasonably likely to be non-notable", it will be tagged for notability, but "certainly, hopelessly non-notable" it's going to AFD. But if her article is sent to AFD, then she needs to survive WP:MUSICBIO or WP:GNG standards, not the notability tag standards. - Draft:Kim Ji-soo (singer, born 1995) is in draft status. All other drafts are redirecting to this one.
- Draft:Roseanne Park is in draft status. All other drafts are redirecting to this one. May be renamed to Rosé (New Zealand singer) later. She has maybe one RS from South China Morning Post but suffers a lot from other unreliable sources such as the Wikis.
Any questions? AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 23:42, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- Not a question, but Lisa should probably be moved to draft then in my opinion. Redalert2fan (talk) 23:53, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- Redalert2fan, yeah, except it's been pushed out of draft, bypassing the AFC review process. If it's that bad, it's going to AFD. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 23:58, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- About a week late but I'd argue they all pass WP:GNG and would survive AfD in a similar way Jimin of BTS did here. I just expanded Draft:Roseanne Park a bit to save the pretty awful prose/sourcing and the number of reliable sources increased significantly. I had to use articles that go enough in depth to talk about her childhood as well, and her career section hasn't been fully revamped yet. She's been mentioned over 2.5k times on Naver alone (Korean news portal that aggregates reliable sources per WP:KO/RS), and scrolling through it you can see all the articles about just her. Naver isn't even exhaustive of potential Korean news sites as well and doesn't including the English sources who have written profiles on her (three on her page currently). I focus on Rosé since I just did a lot of research on her to fix her page, but this is the same for Lisa and Jisoo too. They've all had endorsements outside of BP, all have solo singles in the works, all have been reviewed as discussed as performers, and have had their own impact in South Korea and abroad. Rosé's voice gets mentioned a lot for it being rather unique in K-Pop (this is actually in at least one of the English sources on her page as well), Lisa's arguably the biggest K-pop idol in Thailand and has promoted independently there, and Jisoo in particular gets a lot of solo ad campaigns and had an independant hosting job on Inkigayo for a year. Problem is none of their pages mentions these, are sourced incredibly poorly, and have terrible prose. Lisa's article needs to get a lot added to it, because right now it doesn't pass WP:GNG even though she herself does.
- And slightly off topic, but can Rosé's draft be moved back to "Rosé (singer)" please? Her birth name is hardly used and she's the only singer with the name "Rosé" on Wikipedia. I saw it was moved to "Roseanne Park", but that may be due to which draft was made first. And shouldn't Jisoo's page just be "Jisoo (singer, born 1995)"? She's much more frequently covered under a mononym. If there's plans to do requested moves on these should they be published drafts then ignore this. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 19:39, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
- DanielleTH, Rosé should probably be disambiguated to (New Zealand singer), as there is already a mononymic Rose (singer). Same with Jisoo per your recommendation. What about Jennie Kim? AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 19:54, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

- I don't think Rose and Rosé are comparable, there's the clear accent and they're pronounced differently (Rows-aye vs rows). Rosé and Rose aren't disambiguated. WP:SMALLDETAILS. Jisoo would need to have "(singer, born 1995)" given there female Korean Jisoos who sing already. There's also multiple Kim Ji-soos who sing so it's not a case of using the family name to avoid having to list birth year. I'm also of the mindset that Jennie's page should just be "Jennie (singer)", I mean that's the name she used when "Solo" was released, and the page is disambiguated as just "Solo (Jennie song)". I didn't make either page, though. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 20:27, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
- Jennie should be moved to Jennie (singer). All the other members are currently not notable and should be in Draftspace.--Lirim | Talk 05:36, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
- Draft:Kim Ji-soo (singer, born 1995) has been accepted/moved by User:Zanhe as Jisoo (singer). I think the naming of this page probably also requires improvement as has been suggested above. Redalert2fan (talk) 20:34, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

- Thanks Redalert2fan for the ping, I wasn't aware of this discussion. As I mentioned on Talk:Lisa (Thai singer), All Blackpink members are ranked among the top 10 in instagram's most followed K-pop idols (all of whom have larger followings than Donald Trump, for perspective), and Jennie and Jisoo are both among Gallup poll's top 10 most popular Korean idols (Lisa and Rosé are not Korean), so it's safe to assume that they meet the notability criteria per WP:ENTERTAINER for having an indisputably large fanbase. For a comparable case, see the deletion review for Harry Styles from 2013. -Zanhe (talk) 20:56, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
- Update: after major improvements made by DanielleTH, I've accepted the draft for Rosé (singer), using the name suggested by her above. Thanks for the great work! -Zanhe (talk) 03:45, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for the great work everyone, at first I had been a bit skeptical weather they would pass notability guidelines (not if they were notable in a general sense), but those worries are all gone now. Only Lisa's article has someone unreferenced claims left which need some work in my opinion. Redalert2fan (talk) 10:15, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
- Looks good. Thanks again for establishing individual notability for the Blackpink members. The articles look a lot better. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 19:17, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Merger proposal
@Eshqinra: created a new article, Blackpink Diaries, and added it to filmography here. Given that these are just short check in/vignette vids from on the road during tour it doesn't appear they merit their own article. Unless there's significant notice to these it looks like they might be better served by a brief mention of what they are in the main article here. JamesG5 (talk) 10:10, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
- @JamesG5: Is there really anything to merge? There doesn't appear to be any coverage of these videos in independent sources, so I think it would be fine to redirect to Blackpink#Filmography without merging any content. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 19:01, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
- Merge I would boldly redirect, but since it's being discussed here, yes, merge. If it's for the 2019 world tour then eventually perhaps that world tour will eventually have its own article and that it would be covered by the promotion section. If it's an ongoing series, like they will use that for any kind of behind-the-scenes videos, then it's just a social media channel. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 19:19, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
- Hyuna’s Free Month is a video documentary series that was redirected to A Talk AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 19:29, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
- Just redirect this, no sources or categories or anything, completely non-notable content. Yes, its a social media channel for "behind the scenes", its not a real television series broadcast by a real TV network or something. Blackpink House is an example of notable show broadcast by a TV station, while this is not. And there is no need to discuss merging since there is absolutely nothing to merge at all, so I'll go ahead and redirect it right away. Snowflake91 (talk) 19:26, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

Many currencies exist - while this is targeted to an English speaking audience, this isn't focused towards an American audience and would need to be constantly updated. Also HYLT hit 68 #1 on the iTunes world chart, extending their record of being the girl group with the most #1s on iTunes Charts. It also hit triple platinum on QQ charts, within 24 hours of release. Most followed K-pop idols on Instagram
The four members take the top four spots as the most followed K-pop idols on Instagram, according to this article. Is this something worth noting in the "awards and achievements" section of the article? Something along the lines of: "As of March 2020, the Blackpink members are the most followed K-pop idols on Instagram, with the top four most followed idols being Lisa. Jennie, Rosé and Jisoo, respectively.[1] Alex (talk) 19:25, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

- Why is this notable? It's basically a popularity award. Evaders99 (talk) 00:57, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- If it's in a particular category, I don't see why not. It's mentioned in the articles for the most-followed person Cristiano Ronaldo, the most-followed woman Ariana Grande, the most-followed rapper Nicki Minaj, etc. It's not just a popularity contest, it's a measure of cultural influence and impact. I get not including it if it was something along the lines of "X is the 63rd most-followed person" or "Y is the ninth most-followed singer", but mentioning here makes sense to me. ƏXPLICIT 02:35, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- This isn't an award or nomination. It could go in the cultural impact or popularity section though. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 14:36, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- @AngusWOOF: you're right, it's not an award or a nomination; but the section is not called "awards and nominations", it's called "awards and achievements". Being listed on Time's "Time 100 Next" is also neither an award nor a nomination, but it is an achievement. I'm not suggesting to mention any and every list that they're mentioned on, but all four of the members taking the top four spots seems somewhat an achievement and shows their impact. There also isn't an impact or popularity section as you're suggesting, which is why I suggested this specific section as the most relevant for the information. Alex (talk) 15:57, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

Blackpink and their Impact on a new Generation of Music
The Kpop group Blackpink are one of the many artists that have become world renown. They’re ever growing fanbase and fandoms have shown this. They continue to inspire the new and old Blinks while changing a whole new generation of music. Blackpink has changed the music industry by breaking many records in the short amount of time that they have been around. Although Blackpink debuted four years ago because of their popular songs “ddu-du ddu-du” and “How You Like That” they have been constantly asked by many popular song writers to have collaborations as well, some of these artists include: Ariana Grande, Jaden Smith, and even Selena Gomez. They have also already collaborated with some very popular artists already like with Lady Gaga and Dua Lipa. Blackpink has also toured in America after they’re concert at coachella. They are also the very first Kpop group to ever perform on stage at a coachella concert. Jennie, one of Blackpink’s members who is soft spoken, but also has a different side as she sings and raps fiercely when she gets into the second verse of her singing, got more and more of the audience members to take out their phones to capture video. (Feeney, 2019). During this time the audience members were unsure what to think of the girl group as most of them had little knowledge of how powerful their music would be. This shocking moment of the second the audience members realized how amazing Blackpink truly is the cheering and dancing did not stop until they’re moment on stage was over. Even after their concert the audience would not stop cheering and that moment everyone became Blinks. After coachella Blackpink started doing they’re world tour in America due to the huge success at coachella every concert afterwards the fans just kept growing and growing. After this tour fans had to wait another year for their newly released song and soon to come album “How You Like That.” This song has gained the girls a huge boost in popularity because of the anticipation from the fans and new audience members for at least 6 months. For the new hit song the group received 10 million views on youtube in 24 hours which is a world record. (Moon, 2020). They were even able to drop the music during the global pandemic which gave them more support as a whole. “Prior to the release of "How You Like That," the group spoke to TIME over email about the message of the new single, the role that fashion plays in BLACKPINK's releases and dropping music during a global pandemic.” (Moon, 2020). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2400:4153:3163:6500:99A8:23D5:BD2:6BC1 (talk) 16:43, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Okay I assume by this citation that you're excluding BTS. Because if you weren't excluding them you would know that they have countless more awards than BP this year, last year, every year since BP started and of course we know even more before that since they started in 2013. The difference here is that people like to say well BP has only been performing since 2016 and BTS started in 2013 might I remind you that anyone and everyone that had the opportunity to do so slammed and bullied and basically dismissed BTS with comments like they'd never make it they're no good they're nothing. Shit who's laughing now? Rockermom59 (talk) 04:08, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

Please add "BLACKPINK’s Debut Album ‘THE ALBUM’ becomes the first girl-group album to receive an official million certification by Gaon Music Chart." to Blackpink is the highest-charting female Korean act on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 13 with "Ice Cream" (2020), and on the Billboard 200, peaking at number two with The Album (2020). They were the first Korean girl group to enter and top Billboard's Emerging Artists chart and to top the Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart three times. Blackpink was also the first female Korean act to receive a certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) with their hit single "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" (2018), whose music video is currently the most-viewed by a Korean group on YouTube. Infobox image
Hi everyone, there are 370 page watchers of Blackpink and more than 100 for all the members; so I think it is better to have a have a consensus on the infobox image for this article and for the members' (Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa) and stick to it. Because everytime I visit, I see a new infobox image, which is completely unnecessary as nothing was wrong with the previous image.
According to MOS:LEADIMAGE, infobox image is to give readers visual confirmation that they've arrived at the right page
. So certainly, it is not for the most recent image we have in our gallery (Wikimedia Commons). There is no policy on wikipedia to use the most recent ones, but certainly there is for the quality of image. I think, we should also not change the image in few months or a year unless anyone of them undergoes a major facial change. There are many BLP articles which uses old images even when there are new, properly licensed, and of standard quality pictures available on Commons (example: Priyanka Chopra, Emma Watson). Per WP:BLPIMAGE we should also keep in mind, that we should not include images where the subject did not expect to be photographed
.
So, I propose to:
- Swap present infobox image of Lisa with the one present under Lisa (rapper)#Fashion and photography per MOS:IMAGERELEVANCE.
- No change should be made for the infobox image unless a new consensus is reached (for this and members' article).
Note: Please feel free to correct me if I have made a mistake. Thank you. -ink&fables «talk» 04:21, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- @-ink&fables Support for both. The Lisa one was recently changed back to older version and then back to current photoshoot version. The airport one doesn't look too bad and seem much more appropriate than the photoshoot version. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 04:35, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
Hello fellow editors, I just wanna add a Note to this discussion. Lisa debut as a solo artist is coming in a month and if there will be no latest photo of Lisa from 2021, there is going to be at least a 1000 people trying to change that in a month. I suggest you to leave a current photo or change it in to a new photo from 2021, if you don't want a 1000 people coming here to change that for you. Have a good day and Happy editing fellow editors ITIRIKBP (talk) 20:00, 29 July 2021 (UTC).
Update to sentence in the lead about UK Top 40 hits
"They have the most top 40 hits in the United Kingdom among all Korean artists" - I just wanted to point out that this was no longer the case following the release of BTS' "Butter", which tied both acts at 6 Top-40 entries each. And now with PTD's debut, BTS has 7 in total, while BP still only has 6. The statement should either be removed or updated to state that BP has the most top 40 hits for a female Korean act, or the second most top 40 hits among all Korean artists, provided there is a reliable secondary source to support the wording of whatever modification is made. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 01:36, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Carlobunnie: Updating it with "for a female Korean act" is better. -ink&fables «talk» 05:32, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
- @-ink&fables: regardless of which wording is better, there needs to also be a reliable source saying so (as I said above) or it can't be mentioned at all, even if it is true. Some editors would have just removed it altogether with a note in the edit summary stating that the info is no longer correct, but I left a msg here instead to give y'all time to find something that can be used to update it. If there's nothing, it'll have to go. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 12:57, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Carlobunnie Add "in September 2020 to July 2021" with this source to support the ending (July 2021) portion? Alternatively, add both the chart (BTS + Blackpink) to the further support it. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 13:30, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Paper9oll: I disagree. The Forbes article doesn't mention any dates or time periods. Only that blackpink held the record at the beginning of the year and bts tied it with the release of Butter (no date given there). One would have to surmise the time period that BP held the record for (Sept'20–Jul'21 as you suggested) and when bts broke the tie to claim the lead based on the date the article was written and the release date of PTD/the week it debuted on the UK Chart, neither of which are mentioned in the article. Imo it would be better to just remove it from the lead. It could instead be mentioned in the Career section prose (in the appropriate time period) that BP became the Korean act w the most top-40 hits in the UK at the time when their single X debuted/charted at #Y in Z month of whichever year they achieved the record. We have an actual straightforward source to support that wo going through any sourcing gymnastics to prove it. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 05:26, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Carlobunnie I'm fine with removing it if there are no alternative options available. My intention for adding "in September 2020 to July 2021" was because the existing included source was published dated month of September 2020 while the source for BTS having surpassing BP 6 top 40 hits by achiving 7 top 40 hits was published dated month of July 2021 so that fulfiled the verification. In addition, adding the chart source for both group would further enhance the 6 to 7 record by supporting the two Forbes source, I know the article wasn't clear and explict in their reporting by just mentioning that BTS was previously tied with BP before PTD release hence adding chart source would support the figures value. Maybe, including exact charted date would be more accurate but also more tedious, I prefer simple solution instead. I'm also fine with moving to career section. So to sum up, I'm fine with removing it or moving to career section if there are no alternative options available. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 06:44, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Paper9oll: even then, Sept'20-Jul'21 still wouldn't be correct because BTS tied BP w Butter in May (May 28 iirc) so BP would only have held the record up to then, before having to share it for a little over a month w BTS until PTD's debut in July. Extrapolating a time period based on article dates is not WP practice afaik, and using chart data to further support that would be stretching it (I don't wanna say it's OR because that's not the correct term but you get the idea). It's always best to stick to what the sources say, so I'll move it from the lead to the body as prev mentioned, and if my wording needs adjusting after the move, please feel free to do so accordingly. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 16:01, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Carlobunnie Yes understood, I'm fine with moving to body section. Would see if copyedit is needed after moving. Thanks — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 16:10, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

Greetings from a Blink :)
I just want to request that in the section of Members , please add the word "Visual" next to Jisoo along with 'Vocalist'. It'd look nicer and also, even the company has stated that Jisoo is the 'visual' of the group. Sourcing in lead
Is there a particular reason why so many refs are included in the lead? All that info should already be appropriately sourced in the body of the article, not the lead. I don't want to rmv the sources as I don't contribute to this page and therefore don't know if all of it is already properly cited in the prose, but the editors who maintain it should clean that up. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 22:48, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

They charted at number one and two on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart, making Blackpink the fastest act to achieve such a feat and the fourth Korean artist to hold the top two positions simultaneously, after label mates Psy and Big Bang and BTS from Big Hit Entertainment. [38]

There is a misinformation under the 'CAREER' '2016-2018' section regarding the World Digital Song Sales chart record.
"They charted at number one and two on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart, making Blackpink the fastest act to achieve such a feat and the third Korean artist to hold the top two positions simultaneously, after label mates Psy and Big Bang.[38]"
Blackpink are not the 3rd artist to achieve this feat rather fourth. BTS also achieved this in May 2016. In fact BTS topped the top 3 positions simultaneously making them the only artist to do so. 1. Fire 2. Save Me 3. Epilogue: Young Forever

- Done Changed it to say third YG Entertainment artist instead of Korean. I am not sure how they stated this fact incorrectly seeing as it was same Billboard writer that wrote both articles. Pretty much stated same facts he did in BTS article about Psy and Big Bang doing it, but forgot about it when writing Blackpink article. Anyways article isn't inaccurate anymore, could be reworded better if needed. WikiVirusC(talk) 14:01, 22 June 2022 (UTC)

Jisoo positions
isnt she also sub-rapper and visual. If visual is not accepted as a position then she should at least be sub-rapper. Abclj12 (talk) 19:27, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
- This is true. Rapping isn’t really her position, but she is not vocalist alone. She is also visual isn’t it? How can that not be excepted as a position. It is important. Rajasrikakaraparthi (talk) 18:07, 15 June 2023 (UTC)

Pre-debut Members
Should they be added to the timeline graph below? ValenciaThunderbolt (talk) 15:56, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
- No, they were never part of the group and not notable.Evaders99 (talk) 21:28, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
- No, timeline is for members only. Even though I'm not sure why is there a need for such here when there are no changes to the members in which the main purpose of having a timeline is to show in graphics the changes in lineup given that it is positioned in the member's section. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 05:43, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

Member's MBE POSTNOM in lede
Noting that, MBE POSTNOM has been removed from Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa per this, this, and this revision, respectively, by @Mr. D. E. Mophon with the rationale of "Per Wikipedia guideline WP:MOSBIO, [subject] is South Korean, not British. Honours issued by other countries may be mentioned in the article, but should generally be omitted from the lead
". Currently, only Rosé has MBE POSTNOM per discussion because the non-RfC options provided is that she is using "an English name [hence] compatible to the British title
" however I would like to correct that listing MBE POSTNOM in the lead of Rosé is because New Zealand (in which Rosé is a New Zealander herself) is part of the commonwealth realm. Regardless, the purpose of making this discussion is for the record and/or easy referencing when required to quote as WP:HIDDEN notes and/or edit summary. If required, discussion are still welcome per WP:CONSENSUS and WP:COMMUNICATE. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 12:51, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
- Just contributing some additional context/justification regarding Rosé's title.
- The Associated Press reported that "
Roseanne (Rosé) Park also received an MBE, though hers came without the “honorary” qualifier because she has dual citizenship in New Zealand, one of the 14 countries where the U.K. monarch is head of state.
" Poohwoo (talk) 14:18, 23 November 2023 (UTC)- "also received an MBE" is the same award they received from the king. JK928374 (talk) 00:41, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
- "Non-UK citizens can be considered for an honour for their work within the UK."
- All members of Blackpink received the same MBE award from King Charles. Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa's BME status is listed on the British royal official webpage and is true; the user paper9oll's action needs to be reverted and corrected as per facts. JK928374 (talk) 00:28, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
- @JK928374 For clarification, I'm not the one that removed them from Jisoo, Jennie, and Lisa articles, respectively, as evidenced by this, this, and this. In addition, for the 3 members, their MBE is listed in the body section instead of lede per MOS:POSTNOM, it wasn't omitted completely, hence I'm not sure why your reply implied such. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 06:38, 25 November 2023 (UTC)

omestic fame in 2016 with their single "Cheer Up", which charted at number one on the Gaon Digital Chart, became the best-performing single of the year, and won "Song of the Year" at the Melon Music Awards and Mnet Asian Music Awards. Their next single, "TT", from their third EP Twicecoaster: Lane 1, topped the Gaon charts for four consecutive weeks. The EP was the highest selling Korean girl group album of 2016. Within 19 months after debut, Twice had already sold over 1.2 million units of their four EPs and special album. As of 2022, the group has sold over 15 million albums cumulatively in South Korea and Japan.[2][3]
The group debuted in Japan on June 28, 2017, under Warner Music Japan, with the release of a compilation album titled #Twice.[4] The album charted at number 2 on the Oricon Albums Chart with the highest first-week album sales by a K-pop artist in Japan in two years. It was followed by the release of Twice's first original Japanese maxi single titled "One More Time" in October. Twice became the first Korean girl group to earn a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for both an album and CD single in the same year. Twice ranked third in the Top Artist category of Billboard Japan's 2017 Year-end Rankings, and in 2019, they became the first Korean girl group to embark on a Japanese dome tour. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.159.61.46 (talk) 15:32, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

- Lead
- "Cited as the "biggest girl group in the world"," → WP:WEASEL
- "they are considered" → WEASEL
- "two billion views on YouTube, and remains" → wrong comma
- "since Danity Kane in 2008 and set two" → "since Danity Kane in 2008, and it set two"
- "The album's lead single "Pink Venom" (2022) was the" → "The album's lead single, "Pink Venom" (2022), was the
- "Blackpink have broken" → Blackpink is or Blackpink are?
- "30 Under 30 Asia, and were named" → unneeded comma
- The whole lead is about achievements. Will the whole article be about accomplishments? This is not List of awards and nominations received by Blackpink or Cultural impact of Blackpink. How did they come to be? They were not born successful. What do they do while not performing? I know the article has that information because you have the sections Formation and pre-debut activities, Endorsements, Philanthropy. If they exist, then they are important enough to have subsections that can be summarized in the lead paragraph.
- 2010–2016
- "Blackpink began forming" → when, in 2009? Because 2NE1 also formed in 2009
- "the pace of training alongside the culture shock was especially difficult" → "the pace of training and the culture shock were especially difficult"
- "Since then, numerous news and rumors surfaced" → "news stories". Also, "since then" implies that this hasn't stopped
- "It was only on May 18" → "It was until May 18"
- "member revealed, on June" → wrong comma
- "native country Thailand and" → "native country, Thailand, and" or "native Thailand"
- "Jisoo also made a cameo appearance in 2015 drama" → in the 2015
@Nkon21 and Flabshoe1: I'll continue either tomorrow or on Thursday. (CC) Tbhotch™ 04:22, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for starting the review. As per your comments, I have updated the lead to incorporate more sections of the article, and have corrected the grammatical errors listed. Flabshoe1 (talk) 02:26, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks.
- 2016–2017
- You can link single album since it is not a common term outside South Korea.
It was described as a "mixed genre of music" → by whom?
- "Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart, becoming their first song to enter the Bubbling Under Hot 100" → repetitive
- "The music video for the song later..." needs to be moved to the previous paragraph.
- "self-titled Japanese extended play" → "self-titled Japanese extended play (EP)"
- 2018–2019
- "one on Gaon Album Chart" → the Gaon
- "led Blackpink to becoming the first" → "led Blackpink to become the first"
- "Gaon Digital Chart while "Forever Young"" → "Chart, while "Forever Young""
- "and became the highest-charting song by a Korean girl group in the country" → at that time
- "the second most-watched music video of all time in first 24 hours of release" → "the second most-watched music video of all time in the first 24 hours of release
- "at Kyocera Dome Osaka" → "at the Kyocera Dome Osaka"
- "By the end of its run, the tour became" → The way it is written, "By the end of its run, the tour had became"
- "marking Blackpink's second entry in the chart" → on the chart
- "The group embarked to Japan for a variety of promotional activities" → "The group embarked on a variety of promotional activities in Japan"
- "In January of the following year, Blackpink were" → Blackpink is or Blackpink are
- "Break the Internet Awards™ list" → Legal symbols are discouraged
I had 2020 already but an edit conflict occurred. So I'll redo it tomorrow. (CC) Tbhotch™ 03:47, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- 2020–2021
- This is also found in the previous section, change the 100,000,000 streams to 100 million streams
- "On April 22, 2020, it was confirmed the group" → "that the group". Also, who confirmed it?
- "The show documents their 2020 comebacks alongside sharing" → "while sharing"
- "as well as of Rosé's song "Gone" from her first solo single album R" → "as well as Rosé's song "Gone" from her first solo single álbum, R"
- "Blackpink released a Japanese version of The Album on August 3, 2021, with Japanese versions for four out of the eight tracks [...], which peaked at number three on the Oricon Albums Chart" → I know you meant that The Album peaked at number three, but this can imply that the versions did it instead.
- 2022–present
- "It peaked at number two on South Korea's Circle Digital Chart and number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became" → "It peaked at number two on South Korea's Circle Digital Chart, number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100, and became"
- "Blackpink released their second studio album Born Pink alongside" → "Blackpink released their second studio album, Born Pink, alongside"
- There are some previously linked articles that are linked again, including Hot 100, Global 200, Billboard 200, R (single album), etc.
- " in pure sales during 2022 according" → "in pure sales during 2022, according"
- Seoul, London and Paris are common cities, so they don't need a link
- "The encore leg set several historical records, including making them the first Korean girl group to perform in a stadium in Europe, the first girl group to perform at Allegiant Stadium, Oracle Park, and Dodger Stadium" → where are those stadiums located? Europe or the US?
- "a promotional single titled "The Girls" which" → "a promotional single titled "The Girls", which"
- "their mobile game, Blackpink: The Game on" → "their mobile game, Blackpink: The Game, on"
- "becoming the second group ever to win the latter award since TLC in 1999" → "becoming the second group since TLC in 1999 to receive the latter honor."
- "under discussion, and later" → wrong comma
- "Billboard announced the Blackpink: A VR Encore" → "Billboard announced Blackpink: A VR Encore"
- Artistry
- File:Ddu-Du Ddu-Du - Blackpink sample.ogg's rationale is for Lovesick Girls
- "Their discography also utilizes a range of musical styles" → "They also use a variety of musical styles throughout their discography, such as"
- "Their music is often characterized by a fusion of "bold rapping, powerful singing and chic styling"" → Who is being quoted?
- ""rewrote the definition of K-pop and their beauty, It's for them not for anyone else."" → typo
- "Other artists that the group have" → has
- Public image
- "naming their song "Pretty Savage" as the song that described them → describes
- "image in K-pop, and for" → wrong comma
- "as larger-than-life idols", "But in carefully" → "as larger-than-life idols [...] [b]ut in carefully"
- "to South Korean hanbok, through" → hanbok is italicized; wrong comma
- File:BLACKPINK Pink Venom Tour 2022 (52544176071).jpg appears but its relevance is not mentioned in the section
- The section discusses Blackpink's fandom power and the light stick represents the group's fandom, so I still feel that the image is appropriate.

- "They became the third girl group in history to cover Rolling Stone, after the Spice Girls and Destiny's Child, when they covered the magazine's June 2022 issue" → "They covered the June 2022 issue of Rolling Stone, making history's third girl group to do so after Destiny's Child and the Spice Girls.

That's the full review. Thank you for your time and for working on it in the meantime. Once you complete the concerns, let me know. If you have any comments or questions, ping me back. (CC) Tbhotch™ 20:41, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the detailed notes, and I've gone through and addressed all remaining points. For the Earwig report of similarity to the Billboard link, I've reduced it by over a percentage with some paraphrasing but have been unclear as to how to do so further as the detected parts are fairly generic phrases such as "the first K-pop girl group". Let me know if you have any suggestions. Flabshoe1 (talk) 03:06, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, common and generic phrases are read as a match by the tool, but the reported percentages have decreased. (CC) Tbhotch™ 06:35, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
lead style
It seems to me like the lead has three paragraphs exclusivelly dedicated to the group achievements, prizes and such, which does not reflect how Wikipedia envision a lead section on his manual of style.
According to Wikipedia guidelines the lead section should establish context and include mentions of significant criticism or controversies. Context is extremelly underdeveloped, which is particularly strange for a group that is so prominent, and no controversy or criticism is present, of which there could be none, I am no expert to judge.
This issue in the lead section is by no means only reserved to Blackpink, it is shared by mostly K-pop groups and should be, in my opinion, fixed. Cinemaandpolitics (talk) 11:26, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
removal of "female empowerement" from lead
User @Lightlylove removed the usage of "female empowerement" from lead, I reverted their edit because there is a source on the article that says (deepl translation) "has become a “wannabe” in Korea and around the world for its empowering female songs" https://m.entertain.naver.com/article/421/0006550347
I think it is important to discuss this kind of removal of information on the talk page first. As per wikipedia guidelines "when not to remove content" If there is a source that you believe to be misrepresented, or not reliable, or invalid for any other reason, the matter should be raised on the article's talk page.
In this specific case I found another very good nuanced source, for exemple, that describes how Blackpink is associated with girl crush and female empowerement, what it means etc https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/girl-crush-k-pop-feminism-2018-8491604/ The current place on lead seems appropriate to me, but it could be developped further into the lead following this and other sources. Cinemaandpolitics (talk) 20:40, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
- I think there is a part of Wikipedia sourcing that is not properly understood here, i'd like to you explain, every Wikipedia editor should know that when something is not croncrete it fails under the misinformation section, the two most important factors when sourcing material in a article is context, the way we interpret what they said from what is actually real, most articles about this group's music is written by writers who listen to their music and get their information from common belief, for example Blackpink's Lisa is heavily called as a "dancing machine" by the K-pop fans, you would find information like this in every article that talks about them whether it be high-prestige websites like Billboard or not, this is entertainment writing, they write how the media and fans community percieves them, the media views them as a group that is known for making female empowerment simply because most of their songs talk about how they are capable of achieving everything they want, it's interpreted, but this group has never had a song when they option to empower a female audience, they only had songs where they empower themselves and the sole topic is just themselves and their success, as they are women obviously this gets misunderstood as them directing this to a female audience, the problem is that they are actually not.
- Blackpink's company YGE has never stated from their own words, in any report, or in any interview/ocassion that the group is marketed as "female empowerment group" neither the members themselves of this group, they in fact have been asked multiple times about this and they instead shift the topic or deviate from it just to avoid talking about girl power, in fact they only revitialized what their original concept this, they only talk about their colors as a group and each of the members personalities and what they have to give, they only reply on how the "black and pink" concept they had empowers them and their confidence, solidifying even more that they have a concept of self-empowerment not "female empowerment", the label never marketed this a group as such, neither did the girls, they only been called like this over and over again by the fans, the media and the k-pop community, because most of them want to believe this in order to attract a poder audience to their music cause they know most people are interested in the female empowerment demographic in pop culture, the only problem? That their company neither them have claimed to be a "female empowerment" group, they had only claimed to be a "self-empowerment" group according to what their "black and pink" concept stands for, Billboard saying that they are known for making female empowerment songs, is like Billboard attempting to say that they've sold 100 million records, nobody would believe they sold all that much but fans would still take it into account cause Billboard is a source with high reputation right? Most of these websites get all the artists information from fan websites, kpop websites, social media and even Wikipedia, you"ll be amazed of how many Wikipedia biographied and data are included into articles from high-prestige websites like Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, NME, etc etc in articles where they talk about these groups or any artist un general, i agree that there should be a talk page discussion when reverting things however i did not engage myself in conversation cause this time is a rule to revert any misleading information by facts in WP. - Hello, thank you for coming to discuss the edit.
- First of all, have you actually read the billboard article I added as source? It is way more nuanced that you may think.
- A few other things:
- 1) Even though I think you have a point about a lot of sources of K-pop material being very promotional oriented, they are still providing a reading into the songs. As you can see just before in the talk page, I have expressed my concerns as well about this very issue, the lead and the article being promotional.
- But still, even though an article is almost exclusively "positive" removing informations is not how you make it more nuanced. What we can do is instead *adding* sources and writing that can make it interesting.
- 2) The company or the artists do not have to explain their music. Other people can analyze it and be a legitimate source. This is also how the lead presents that piece of information. This is valid for every art.
- 3) Regarding "self empowerment" it seems like you think that it means that the members are only "promoting themselves", like the real selves, and for that reason you agree on keeping the information. I'd say that a lot singers sing about characters that rely on their life, one way or another, and Teddy (the producer of Blackpink) said he writes thinking about the members life. Still that doesn't mean that it cannot empower others that will identify themselves in that song story/energy. Cinemaandpolitics (talk) 23:25, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
"K-pop girl group" in the lead
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
User Flabshoe1 removed the addition of K-pop before girl group in the lead, under the reasoning that "South Korean already covers K-pop". This seems clearly false to me. South Korean does not covers Kpop at all. To avoid launching empty reversions I think it is better to discuss it here. Why a K-pop group shouldn't be called a... K-pop group? Teddy Park is missing
I've noticed that Teddy Park gets absolutelly zero mentions on the page. This has surprised me since I thought that his role in producing Blackpink would be so important that it would have given him a spot in the lead section. He has an extensive role even in their documentary, I don't have the time right now to start putting together sources to develop his role, I've just rapidly noticed this one that is already used: https://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20200702000667
These 10 lines used for a factual description of their musical style contrast heavily with the size of the page in general. Cinemaandpolitics (talk) 21:08, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
