Tone of article edit

The article's tone seems to imply that Blackberry Hill is either in the process of closing down or is no longer in use for mental health services. In fact it's second only to Callington Road Hospital in terms of inpatient services provided in the trust, and is very much up and running! Could the confusion be due to the large older part of the hospital site which is currently vacant? 89.242.231.144 (talk) 03:17, 30 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

The article does mention Fromeside secure unit, but if you have further information on the current situation please edit the article to improve it. I've had a quick look for sources but not identified anything which clearly describes the current use. Can you point to reliable sources which describe the current function of the remaining parts?— Rod talk 13:07, 30 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Had a google as well, but couldn't find much about the future other than CQC reporting there would be a "service redesign in September 2014" at Fromeside, which seems to minor for WP. Added 2 more reasonable cites, one covering the history a bit. All the cites seem to just use "Fromeside" rather than "Fromeside Hospital" so changed to that - google shows a bit of use of "Fromeside Hospital", but not by AWP, so I think that is just sloppy usage rather than an official name. NB The CQC report I cited gave the current "CQC registered location" of the two units as "Blackberry Hill Hospital". So should we start the article "Blackberry Hill Hospital was ..." - must admit I find the current naming confusing. Would this be a better start?
"Blackberry Hill Hospital was a a large NHS mental health facility in Fishponds, Bristol, England, and is presently the home of two small units of the Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership."

You're right, the hospital is Blackberry Hill, within which the largest unit is Fromeside (medium secure services; 7 or 8 wards I believe), but the hospital also contains Wickham Unit (low secure services - 3 wards), Acer Unit (drug and alcohol rehab inpatient), and a number of community mental health services. All the buildings currently in use are at the rear of the site, the larger (older) part of the site which is visible from the main road is derelict. I'll gather some sources and do some edits. 2.98.215.54 (talk) 16:09, 6 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
I've added information about the current services offered by the site, and made a few minor edits to clarify the fact that the hospital is currently fully operational, only the older part of the site is disused/awaiting redevelopment. These are referenced but I'll add more sources soon. PICURMN (talk) 15:34, 7 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Geriatrics at Blackberry Hill Hospital edit

We seem to be omitting (almost completely) the Geriatric part of Blackberry Hill Hospital. I suspect at merger this was the largest part of its work, coming from Manor Park Hospital which was a large geriatric hospital. It seems that at some date the geriatric part of the hospital was closed down, but googling around I cannot find out when, or even much about the geriatric work other than academic geritaric papers with Blackberry Hill based authors. For example here is a 1997 paper with an author from Department of Care of the Elderly, The BRACE Centre, Clinical Research Centre and Memory Disorders Clinic, Blackberry Hill Hospital, Bristol, and another in 1998[1]. So it seems geriatrics was still running in 1998 at least. If anyone can track down more info, please can they add it. Rwendland (talk) 15:53, 7 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Good point, I was vaguely aware that geriatric services used to be a major part of the hospital's remit, but now none remain on the site. I suspect that they were moved to Southmead and Callington Road hospitals as part of the shut-down of the older part of the site, but I'll have to look for sources. Incidentally, I noticed from one of your edits that you were wondering about the presence of nursing students at Glenside in 1992: As Glenside hospital was being closed down, the buildings were taken over by the Avon College of Health (later the Avon and Gloucestershire College of Health). This took place around 1992-1993. This college was then incorporated into UWE in 1996 to become the Faculty of Health and Social Care (now Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences).PICURMN (talk) 17:22, 7 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
I've now found a few cites on the geriatric history of the hospital (eg NBT closed inpatient services (geriatric) at Blackberry in June 2005), but don't have time to write it up right now. I can probably do that tomorrow, do you want to wait till then? Re Glenside students, I found a couple of cites, after Rod gave me a steer, about "Avon and Gloucester College of Health", and have added them to the Glenside, Bristol article. I'm inclined to remove the para about Glenside becoming UWE in this article, as it seems a touch off-topic here. What do you think? Rwendland (talk)
I'm new to Wikipedia editing, and I'm not an expert on Manor Park/Blackberry Hill's history so I'll leave that up to you. I agree, as there's already an article for Glenside it doesn't make sense to duplicate. Although the two adjacent sites were for a while a single hospital, this was for a relatively short period of time and they otherwise have quite separate (albeit connected) histories.PICURMN (talk) 19:15, 7 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
