Flitty? edit

"Best Friend, someone (singular or plural) with whom one shares the strongest possible kind of friendship(s) occasionally in a flitty context " I don't know if Wikipedia can report on something that is occasionally in a flitty context. Maybe this is common throughout the world except specifically where I live, but I feel like that is unencyclopedic because i don't know how it could verified, and the statement "occasionally in a flittly context" is very vague and I don't really know on what occassion. Occasionally everything will happen, or has the potential to happen. Until someone else can verify this to be more specific so that I might understand what that means whether it is "gay best friend" or like secret lovers who purport to be best friends then i would understand. Besides I haven't seen the word flitty in to mean LGBT anywhere except in Catcher in the Rye which was written in the 50s. But maybe i am completely wrong. Hi Atoms capture doubt, I like your username, :-) And I'd have been pretty confused by best friends being "especially flitty," too, so I checked the history on the article, and saw that an ISP added that a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't caught. I wouldn't consider it appropriate for the page or the context, so I've removed it. It may have been a good faith edit, although I find it unlikely as it was linked to an article which doesn't mention the use of "best friends" in any way. Perhaps if it were a widespread and established practice, then it could be added, but not in this case! Thanks for pointing it out. (P.S. I took the liberty of adding a section for your comments: it keeps the page tidy and serves as an introduction. It's the ==Flitty?== you can see at the top of the text in the edit window, and is widely used on talk pages.) Maedin\talk 17:22, 10 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: Withdrawn (Non-admin closure) Per JHunterJ's capialation argument, but I still think that the primary use of "Best friend" (lowercase f) is the type of friendship, and if someone looks it up he's most likely looking for the the type of friendship, not some other use. Best FriendBest Friend (disambiguation) – Shouldn't Best Friend redirect to Friendship#Best friend. That is the primary use. (If this is moved, remember to add {{Redirect|Best Friend}} to the target page).Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 21:39, 13 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. A reader putting "best friend" into the search box is probably looking for one of the uses given on the dab page, not for the meaning of the words in common English, so the present structure is the best. SamuelTheGhost (talk) 11:10, 14 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per SamuelTheGhost and also the suggested redirect target topic is not capitalized "Best Friend". The redirect Best friend might (or might not) be better targeted to the section of Friendship, but that is a separate question. -- JHunterJ (talk) 12:50, 15 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a dictionary. Its objective is not to define or explain words. --RJFF (talk) 10:51, 18 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
