Redirect for Okeechobee Culture? edit

Hey. I'm trying to connect this article to the Everglades and Indigenous people of the Everglades region articles. My sources say this culture was called the Okeechobee Culture. Should we create a redirect? --Moni3 (talk) 14:28, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Looking in Jerald T. Milanich's Archaeology of Precolumbian Florida, I find this under the heading "Okeechobee Region", "Lake Okeechobee and the surrounding area ... were home to the people of the Belle Glade Culture ..." The State of Florida Office of Cultural and Historical Programs, in an on-line assessment of archaeological research needed in Florida, has, under the heading "Chapter 11. LAKE OKEECHOBEE BASIN/KISSIMMEE RIVER, 3000 B.P.-CONTACT", the statement, "The Okeechobee Basin of south Florida corresponds to the Belle Glade culture area." John H. Hahn's Indians of Central and South Florida: 1513-1763 uses "Okeechobee region", "Belle Glade area" and "Lake Okeechobee basin" more or less interchangeably, and has "Okeechobee cultural area" in the index but not in the main body of the book. I know I have seen "Belle Glade culture" used in other books, but I don't have them at hand.

It looks like the terms are synonymous. I'd want to compare more sources to see which term is more authoritative. -- Donald Albury 18:45, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
