Team-B-Vital Improvement Drive edit

Hello all!

This article has been chosen as this week's effort for WP:Discord's #team-b-vital channel, a collaborate effort to bring Vital articles up to a B class if possible, similar to WP:Articles for Improvement. This effort will run for up to seven days, ending early if the article is felt to be at B-class or impossible to further improve. Articles are chosen by a quick vote among interested chatters, with the goal of working together on interesting Vital articles that need improving.

Thank you! -- ferret (talk) 01:06, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

secretions edit

Article currently claims they are latex like and toxic. Do we have sources for this?©Geni (talk) 17:38, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Latex-like secretion is listed here though there's no mention of it being toxic. http://online-field-guide.com/Kaloulapulchra.htm Natalius (talk) 16:46, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Range Map Optimization edit

The current range map is very slow and inefficient so do please optimize it if possible. GeoJSON data with original source: Wikipedia:Map_data/Range of Kaloula pulchra Natalius (talk) 13:16, 6 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Working on this one a bit more – a helpful IP editor has actioned the other suggestions so far. Thanks for the initial comments! DanCherek (talk) 23:30, 11 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Alright, added another source for the Florida part, and "as of" has been added! DanCherek (talk) 00:36, 12 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Behaviour and ecology edit

  • as soon as rain falls I'd go with either "immediately after rainfall" or "soon after rainfall" depending on what's more consistent with the source; sounds a little more encyclopedic
Changed to "soon after rainfall" based on the source. DanCherek (talk) 17:58, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • No comma needed after "walking and burrowing"
    Removed. DanCherek (talk) 17:58, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • No parentheses around from opening of the mouth to closing
    Removed. DanCherek (talk) 17:58, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Pet trade edit

  • Most of the first para feels a little trivia/WikiHow-y, save for the sentence about the peat-soil mixes
Rewrote the paragraph, culling some of the instructional text and adding a sentence about diet. Let me know what you think! DanCherek (talk) 18:45, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • "3 to 4 times" → "three to four times" per MOS:NUMERAL
    Done. DanCherek (talk) 17:58, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

    Done. DanCherek (talk) 17:58, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Status and threats edit

  • Switch the two sentences and take out "therefore" in the IUCN sentence
    Done. DanCherek (talk) 17:58, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Banded bullfrog
  • ... that the gonads of the banded bullfrog (pictured) remain ripe during dry periods so that it can mate soon after rainfall? Source: "In Kaloula pulchra and the two small microhylids, temporary dry periods prevent emergence from subterranean retreats, but mating occurs as soon as rain falls, the gonads having remained ripe throughout."
