Capitalization Debate

@Mel Etitis: I looked at the WikiProject for album and they have everything there about credits for each song. Maybe you think it's too detailed, or what? Could you please tell me why you always want to undo everything I do? It's getting very frustrating. I gave up on using ~ and now this business. Also, the capitalization of songs isn't just on stylized album covers. It's everwhere from online stores to their official site.

Yes, it's much too detailed I'd have said (compare other albums). Personnel should be given for the album, but it's repetitive and unnecessary to give the details for each track.

As for the peculiar capitalisation — most shops have automated systems, so make no decisions about these things — the album appears on one exactly as it appears on the others. The capitalisations look purely typographic and arbitrary; as I've seen exactly the same thing on most other Japanese (and some Korean & Chinese) albums, I'm pretty certain that it's not a particular "artistic" decision made by this band.

Given that the sites I've seen are full of appalling mistakes in English syntax, style, etc., I'm reluctant to follow them as arbiters of the correct approach. Given that the people who wrote most of them seem simply to have copied the titles from the album covers, it's unsurprising that they all follow the same typography. I couldn't get any information from the official sites; they were all too crippled by Java-gimmickry.

(I also strongly suspect that some of the song titles are mistaken translations, but I've left them as they were when I found them.)

Also, when you change things you do it only part-way; you don't check for consistency with other articles, or between article and text, and, if I remember correctly, when you moved articles you didn't check for double redirects, etc.

As I spent a lot of time painstakingly editing these articles out of the messes they were before, I'm (I hope understandably) reluctant to let someone simply waltz in and undo all my work. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:44, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

About the capitalization, English (as you should know) is NOT the main language in Japan. Because of this, capitalization actually means something, and actually IS an artistic decision, since to them captilaztion means zilch. And about undoing work, is your work deleting other people's work? That doesn't sound like "work" to me, after I sat in front of my computer typing in all the personnel and details for each track. Other albums had details for each track and personnel, so I was trying to do Wikipedia a favor and bring the article up the level of others. Deleting people's honest work (unless it's vandalism, false, etc) is not a good way to motivate a community. --XGSRPG 23:37, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

But English is the language of this encyclopædia, and capitalisation means something here. Unless there's very good reason, its meaning should be respected. Apparently random capitalisation might make "artistic" sense to this band (though I'm not convinced), but it just looks messy and difficult to follow to a native English speaker.

Your work on the personnel is still in the history; all you need to do is retrieve it and turn it into a single section of the article. (Which other album articles have the complete personnel after each track?) --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:45, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

Musical Critique

I have to dispute the claim that "AWAKE" has more lush arrangements then "SMILE". As a musician and music fan, this simply isn't true. Neither is really more 'lush' or 'advanced' then the other. If you want to split hairs, every song on "SMILE" features multi-layered insturments, be it keyboards, xylophones, synths, etc.-- The same can't be said for some of the "AWAKE" tracks, which is largely driven by producer tricks and standard crunch riffs on "AS ONE" and "Killing Me". I believe the following sentence should be omitted as such, as it is largely an amatuer, fan driven opinion rather then actual, refuteable fact:

"This album contrasts heavily with Smile, presenting songs with very lush arrangements rather than the straightforward rock sound present in Smile." --Crow winters 21:47, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

I'm changing the hyphens to ~. Enough said and disputed for all. That is final, if anyone is going to insist and change it back to hyphens, you are just wasting your time. I will continue changing it to ~, as it is suppose to be.

Fair use rationale for Image:AWAKE.jpg

Image:AWAKE.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Why is this deleted?

As a non-japanese speaker I was checking the discography of the band and when I got to this album I got redirected to band's main page. I understand that it was deleted due to something called WP:NALBUM. The criteria for NON deleting seem to include 1) the album being in any country's charts and the japanese version of the page shows that the album topped several japanese charts 2) winning certified gold or higher in any country and this one got platinum 3) appearing in non-self made publications including newspaper and the japanese version cites many of these.
