This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... In my (admittedly limited) experience with Indonesian designers, if notable, they are usually pretty well covered by the Jakarta Post and other publications. Let me have a quick look around and see what I can source. -- Mabalu (talk) 10:12, 4 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • I have to note that there are "about 144" hits to articles at The Jakarta Post about Lawalata on a quick search, covering a wide date-range from 2002 to 2014.
  • A mention in the Encyclopaedia of National Dress here - a passing mention, but significant in this context - he seems to be the ONLY Indonesian designer to rate a namecheck. [1] - I also see quite a few book hits, mainly in Indonesian so need someone who can read them to verify them.
  • Now Google News Search has been FUBAR, it's interesting to note that despite this, Lawalata still has 7 separate Google News hits results from the last month. These may not in themselves be sufficient for notability, but it strongly suggests that there would have been a LOT more coverage on him to be found in Google News Archive before Google wantonly destroyed this resource.
  • He rates a mention on the British Council website as a winner of the ICYE Award, and I also came across this article from an online Swedish magazine - so he certainly does seem to be known and highly respected internationally.
So yes, I would say that in my view, he is very much notable. Mabalu (talk) 10:40, 4 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
