Kurdistan leaf-toed geckoAsaccus kurdistanensis – The most common, precise name. Hyperik talk 16:02, 20 January 2019 (UTC)--Relisted. –Ammarpad (talk) 08:38, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

I usually take the tact of using the english name if there is only one unambiguous english name. Many of these species either have only scientific names, or multiple english names, in which I default to the scientific name. Many of the pages have been set up with scientific name titles, with no english name redirects, so its nearly impossible to determine what is most popular. These pages also don't get a lot of looks. Since we serve primariy the public, and not the scientific community, my preference is to use english names whenever possible. Also, if people search by the genus page, there will also be a skew toward the scientific name. Again, these pages have so few clicks, its almost impossible to determine preference....Pvmoutside (talk) 16:45, 20 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Support Scientific name is more commonly used than vernacular name. This is a recently discovered species that doesn't occur in any English speaking country. There's no reason for Wikipedia to be promoting an almost never used vernacular name that was coined by scientists, when scientists themselves use the scientific name.
