- Tks for reminding me of the S.U. bit. A tangled Webb indeed, with AFE mentioning "S.U.s", Replicas (from memory) thanking "the two SUs" and "Su Wathan" transcribing lyrics on The Pleasure Principle's inner sleeve. Always heard SU referred to an old girlfriend but didn't think it could be Wathan else why was she still contributing to an album after the relationship finished ? I suppose because she was a Beggars staffer who did what she was told! Anyway, did some checking and found quotes from both Praying to the Aliens and the 1982 Numan biography by Coleman that confirm Wathan was the girl in question.
- Yes, I've again taken out "Gary Webb, better known as the artist Gary Numan" for two reasons: 1) it's clutter, 2) it's redundant on song articles when the first line in the Gary Numan link tells you "born Gary Anthony James Webb". If we had every song article with the Webb reference it'd get pretty wearing and if we do it for Numan we may as well do it for Bowie and have his song articles begin with "David Jones, better known as the artist David Bowie"... ;-)

Absolutely no comments on how much of a Bowie-clone he is.

More SU's. I'm from Gary's part of the world and I don't think he says S.U's in the lyrics. listen to it closely. The word is 'issues'. It's just gary's accent and slightly strange way of speaking that confuses.92.14.218.134 (talk) 23:42, 6 September 2010 (UTC) Adrian.
Moog ? edit
Is the use of the Minimoog for the main "riff" sourced ? I remember seeing him play this on a Yamaha CS-80 on stage, not on the Moog (these beasts were rare enough to notice).
- In an interview, Gary talks about using a Minimoog in the studio, which implies he used one in the song, but as you mentioned, he doesn't seem to use one in some live performances. The interview can be seen in this video (Minimoog mentioned from about 2:00 in the video) from Top 2000 a gogo. There is also a picture of him with a Minimoog on the moog site here. From this interview with The Quietus, it appears he used several different synths over his career and it isn't clear which ones were used for which albums. - It's from the horse's mouth, so we have to leave it in. I think he was referring to the way that the song doesn't have a conventional chorus. It goes verse bridge verse bridge different verse different bridge verse bridge etc fade. I'm sure I read somewhere that the song was made out of two incomplete fragments squashed together; this is not mentioned in the article and might just be folk wisdom. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 14:10, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- Re. hook, yep, I think that's what he meant, and I believe somewhere there's a further quote from him about the piece being "too long" and having "no chorus", which I might dig out if I can. I think you're also quite right about the two unfinished tunes being smashed together to form the song, it should be mentioned in one or two reliable sources, possibly again straight from the horse's mouth, and would be worth putting in the article if we can source it. Are 'Friends' Electric? → Are "Friends" Electric? – per MOS:QUOTEMARKS, we should use straight double quotes in titles where quotation marks are used, regardless of dialect or region or anything. The article body is fine, since single quotes are used within double quotes anyway.
On the other hand, the title with double quotes doesn’t appear to be in use in my Googling, and while MOS:TM says to use as close to standard formatting as is reasonable, it also advises against using stylizations that are not in use. 174.141.182.82 (talk) 00:22, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
