Just a few comments on the photo. It is placed centrally, which is a facility suitable for landscape-shape photos. Attempts to weave the words round such photos are not satisfactory. Photos like this are not simply decorative, they are part of history; they are as much part of the substantive content of the article as the prose. The line-up of these early groups is important; indeed, the instrumentation was chosen for the music. They are sized so that the reader can take them in as the prose is read.
