They gay part isnt needed in my opinion it would only warrant being there in a personal life section can we make one of those otherwise I believe "enus is gay" adds nothing and should be removed - Mike Beckham 03:49, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- I remember hearing somewhere that Enus did well in the Gay Games when they were in Sydney. Mens Doubles Tennis, I think. If we can verify this it makes the gay bit worth keeping. Nick 04:07, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

- Nobody gets into an encyclopedia just because they're gay. But once they become candidates for inclusion, anything verifiable about them can be relevant to their article. We mention the homosexuality of a lot of people we have articles about, even though their homosexuality is not what they are remembered for. Enus and his partner appeared in the "Two Of Us" section of the SMH/Age Good Weekend magazine some time ago. I'll dig it out. JackofOz 04:45, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

- I'm with Mike; that's why I have added heavily to the article without explicitly specifying that Anton is gay. Much more important than the fact that he is gay is that he is a gay athlete and significant contributor to Australian gay sports. --Zzymurgy 03:37, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

I suggest a simple rule of thumb regarding gays & lesbians in Wikipedia: if the things they've done could equally well be done by a bisexual (eg competing in the Gay Games, marching in the Sydney Mardi Gras, having a same-sex partner, etc) then there's no need to mention explicitly that they're gay; it's outside the scope of what's wikipedia-worthy. If they're doing things that can only be done by a gay/lesbian person, like (as a silly example) joining the Assassinate All Heterosexuals And Bisexuals Society or speaking out against the inclusion of bisexuals in the Gay Games, then it's relevant that they're gay, and you can mention it. And if they're not doing anything that's overtly related to their sexual identity, then it's not relevant to mention it at all, any more than you'd start the Britney Spears article with "Britney Spears is a heterosexual pop singer...". --Eric TF Bat 05:51, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
