Flags etc
editPlease discuss the use of flags here rather than edit-warring. Once we have a consensus we can adjust the article accordingly. Thanks. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:09, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
- The article passed at FLC because it met these requirements and the usage of flags was not touched upon because it was correct. If the key had not been there then I'm sure it would have been suggested. I used the guidelines listed here when I expanded the article. It states that "The name of a flag's country (or province, etc.) should appear adjacent to the first use of the flag icon" and "Nearby uses of the flag need not repeat the name". The inclusion of a key before the tables prevented accessibility issues. If there is no key explaining what the flags mean then there shouldn't be any flags included.
- Historical considerations are also covered. The Spanish flags used when Barcelona entered the competition in 1975 and 1977 are different to the one used when Athletic Bilbao participated in 1985, which is covered in the key. The same applies to Dynamo Kiev. The flag of Ukraine has no point being in the key because it isn't in the table. Dynamo last took part two years before the present-day Ukraine was formed. The only change I would agree with is using the flag of the Soviet Union instead of the Ukrainian SSR since the club competed in European football under it. I disagree entirely with sweeping changes to an article that passed at FLC and has been stable for three years because someone doesn't like it. Walls of Jericho (talk) 21:10, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
- It's not the fact that Dynamo Kiev competed in the European Cup through a Soviet Union berth, much like the Welsh Swansea City taking an English berth in this season's Europa League, Dynamo were based in the Soviet Union and competed in their league system until the state's dissolution. Why isn't the flag of Catalonia next to Barcelona, instead of whichever carnation of the Spanish flag, for the sake of consistency?
- Before changing my edits, at least use the correct Romania flag before mindlessly reverting, ta. VEOonefive 03:38, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- I'm agreeing with you regarding Dynamo but oh well. The Romanian flag was an honest error on my part. Walls of Jericho (talk) 19:16, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
