This page has been sadly neglected, so it has been updated and referenced with a view to long term stability and minimal maintenance needs.

This page will require maintenance at least twice per year

January when the annual awards are invited and dates are set
May-June when the awards are announced.

I've re-drafted the page to make it relatively easy to update - the only section that should require major change is the main table in the Previous Winners section. Whilst it's time consuming to source all necessary links (and you inevitably have to snip away at other wiki pages that can be very dusty) it's worth doing as it is basically a one time job.

To maintain relevance and reader experience, a table with the last 12 months awards has been included, with links to references provided in a separate column. I will be updating the equally neglected List of Amnesty International UK Media Awards winners - I have a complete list of all winners from 1992 to the present and am sourcing relevant references for inclusion. Given that Reuters, AP and others saw fit to be issuing press releases back in 1992, someone noticed.

For future reference there is a substantial archive and resource (From 30 May 1997) from the AIUK website in the wayback machine

If doing news searches - it is valuable to check all areas of google (and other search services) for all names and possible search parameters Scholar, Books, News, and especially the News Archives. A number of very early on-line references from the 1992 (The Year the Internet was made public) have been found, primarily in the form of archived emails and news wire. This shows just how important the internet has been and has become in the world of both journalism/media and also human rights. It is fascinating to find such old electronic documents ... It's a bit like finding a 1st century Bible in the original Aramaic.
