Dworkin, Ginsberg and the NAMBLA quote

edit

The quote by Dworkin in the NAMBLA section looks pretty damning. But reading a bit of the background, I wonder if the relationship between Dworkin and Ginsberg ought to be contextualised, especially in these days of cancel culture, where calling out someone as a pedophile or rapist is essentially the kiss of death, making everything else about that person irrelevant. Take a look at this article from a reputable source, the NYT, where Dworkin is described as idolising Ginsberg before radically turning an aboutface: https://www.nytimes.com/2002/03/10/books/antiporn-star.html - something just doesn't seem to add up, and I think this could merit a bit of discussion. Particularly in the light of Dworkin not necessarily being a reputable source, as the concluding paragraph of the NYT article makes very clear. Totorotroll (talk) 20:43, 14 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Here's a quote by Ginsberg himself on the topic, from an interview by a great fan of his: “I’ve known Andrea since she was a student. I had a conversation with her when I said I’ve had many young affairs, [with men who were] 16, 17, or 18. I said, ‘What are you going to do, send me to jail?’ And she said, ‘You should be shot.’ The problem is, she was molested when she was young, and she hasn’t recovered from the trauma, and she’s taking it out on ordinary lovers.” https://www.advocate.com/politics/commentary/2010/10/28/ginsberg-and-me — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:200:8001:BD30:88B6:1E8E:47B5:D336 (talk) 05:32, 24 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Why does information on Ginsberg's membership in NAMBLA keep being removed when there are multiple sources, including from people who liked him and interviewed him personally, and have nothing to do with Dworkin? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:200:8001:BD30:D5B3:CB2:6E09:13C3 (talk) 01:25, 25 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

The NAMBLA section appears biassed by certain users with an agenda framing Ginsberg as a paedophile based on dubious claims. Veniaur (talk) 00:32, 17 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm confused. Regardless of whether there's a motive ('agenda') behind some users insisting the information is included, it's not 'framing' if it's true, and it's indisputable (or, as indisputable as that the earth is round, at least) that he was a member of NAMBLA, which is an organization advocating for pedophilia. Unless your goal is to distinguish pedophilia from hebephilia, which is a term and distinction not widely adopted by the broader public, there is no misinformation here, only inconvenient facts. The article doesn't even mention the not-all-that-dubious claims that he had sex with child prostitutes in Morocco. Have you considered that there might be an agenda behind certain users' (and apparently your) denial of Ginsberg's pedophilic proclivities to the point that even mentioning the verifiable fact that he was an active member of NAMBLA is considered unacceptable? 107.2.72.8 (talk) 22:58, 2 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ginsberg's 1974 mugging

edit

Seems that in the life of someone like Allen Ginsberg (pacifist, sensitive poet, champion of the underdog) his being mugged at age 48 would have been a major life event. He wrote about it, and it was publicized. Why isn't it mentioned as part of his life? What impact did it have on him? 162.210.167.144 (talk) 13:19, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
