This is my first attempt to write or edit anything on the wikipedia. I just offer this information that I gleanded from my reading of the books I mention in the "further reading" section. All readers are welcome to correct or edit in any way.

Copyvio

This is a complete copyvio of Venerable Ācariya Mun Bhuridatta Thera, A Spiritual Biography by Venerable Ācariya Maha Boowa Ñanasampanno, translated from the Thai by Bhikkhu Dick Silaratano. The copyvio dates back to 2006 and comprises almost the entirety of the article, which differs only to due to small changes made incrementally over the years by copyeditors. It seems the copyvio was inserted in June 2006, so versions prior to that should be fine. I've removed the CSD and tagged the article as needing revdel instead. --Paul_012 (talk) 06:29, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Mun Bhuridatta → Ajahn Mun – While I recognize this name is a good faith attempt at following WP:HONORIFICS. I think it is most suitable to change the name to Ajahn Mun for reasons of following basically all wiki title WP:CRITERIA. While Ajahn is an honorific, the subject is most well known by the title Ajahn Mun as it is the most recognizable common usage of the name and would be consistent with virtually all comparable figures such as Ajahn Maha Bua, Ajahn Chah, Luang Pu Thuat, etc. Mun alone is far too imprecise, and Mun Bhuridatta is not as recognizable as Ajahn Mun because not as many common people know Ajahn Mun's Dhamma name of Bhuridatta. While the name change may seem like a violation of the honorifics rule I'd like to point out exceptions are made for subjects where the name is most recognized with the honorific, like Mother Teresa as well as significant amounts of Christian clergy per Christian clergy naming conventions WP:NCWC. Although there are no official rules on naming Buddhist clergy as of this writing, I think the case of making an exception to the honorific rule is due and supported for this page per WP:CRITERIA of Recognizability, Naturalness, Precision, Conciseness, and most importantly, Consistency Wikiman5676 (talk) 05:38, 21 January 2021 (UTC) —Relisting. —Nnadigoodluck███ 22:29, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

• Comment Do you have a reference for this claim? According to Google Scholar Ajahn Mun got 231 hits [1], as opposed to 81 hits [2] for Mun Bhuridatta (of which many included the honorific Ajahn/Acharn rather than without Mun Bhuridatta alone). Wikiman5676 (talk) 06:14, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

It is also beside the point. Ajahn Mun is still the name that would best meet the criteria of consistency (most comparable pages use the honorific plus the first name) and naturalness (the type of name a common person would search for). Wikiman5676 (talk) 06:19, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

• Support per WP:COMMONNAME. The Princeton Dictionary of Buddhism, p. 22, calls him Ajahn Mun Bhuridatta. JimRenge (talk) 22:27, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
  • This doesn't seem to be an actual reason against the current title, since Ajahn is an honorific title, which Wikipedia guidelines generally suggest avoiding. --Paul_012 (talk) 17:49, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
    • Yes but as i mentioned above the honorifics rule is not strictly applied, with some reasonable exceptions if the WP:CRITERIA that fits best includes an honorific. And again, Mun Bhuridatta is not as easily recognizable nor is it consistent with the many other Buddhist pages with honorifics. Ajahn Chah, Bhikkhu Bodhi, Thanissaro Bhikkhu etc. are also all other page titles where applying the honorific rule makes no sense since a lot of people would not recognize Chah, Bodhi or Thanissaro alone. • Comment: I'm not really a fan of using Ajahn in article titles, partly since the spelling is so all over the place (ajarn, ajaan, achan, etc). It should be okay if usage is overwhelmingly in favour, though. --Paul_012 (talk) 17:49, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

• That's an interesting point, but spelling is all over the place for anything transliterated. There isn't even consensus among WP:RS over the proper spelling of Maha Bua (of Ajahn Maha Bua) or the Thai Prime Minister's name (Prayut, Prayuth). Wikiman5676 (talk) 18:56, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
