External link to official web site
editAn editor recently added an EL to the official web site for the church. This would be entirely unobjectionable, except that the page in question violates WP:EL in being a flash-only website, which plays music at you to boot. I looked for the internal link underneath the music-playing flash-laden top page, but couldn't find it. So I've removed it. Tb (talk) 17:17, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Denominational category
editDoes the African Orthodox Church consider itself to be Anglican, Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, or Oriental Orthodox? --Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 18:54, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
I know for certain that they are not in Communion with either the Eastern Orthodox or Oriental Orthodox Churches. --TruthfulPrince (TruthfulPrince) —Preceding undated comment added 15:57, 14 September 2011 (UTC).
Saints in the African Orthodox Church
editThe article mentions only one saint, who is specifically only recognized as a saint by the African Orthodox Church. Does the church have an official list of calender of saints? Do they recognize saints from Anglican/Catholic/Orthodox tradition? --Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 18:54, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
AOC is not an Eastern Orthodox Church
editThat "church" is a Protestant church and is NOT recognized by an legitimate Orthodox Church leader, including the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople. It's misleading to call it part of the Orthodox Church. Please correct this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.21.115.10 (talk) 16:29, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
I corrected this. If anyone is wondering "why" the AOC is not Eastern Orthodox is it because it is not in communion, and never has been, with any of the churches that are known as Eastern Orthodox. This is in contrast to say some Old Believers who are not in communion with the Orthodox patriarchates at present but historically were. It has no link of any kind what-so-ever, the closest it comes is misappropriating EO art, terminology, etc. Which of course makes it no more Eastern Orthodox than using a Taoist symbols would make an American movement Chinese.--Aionlux (talk) 04:46, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
parish in Canada
editAs far as I know, St Philip's parish in Whitney Pier is the only parish in Canada. If that is true, 'e.g.' should be replaced with'i.e.' --2607:FEA8:D5DF:F3D9:C87:9B39:6009:E606 (talk) 23:29, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
some points
editI think the article is a bit misleading concerning Anglicans - Patriarch Maguire was a Moravian pastor, and I think the Moravian influence from the West Indies was as strong as the Episcopalian influence in New York.
Second, I think capitalizing the word "Episcopalian" is confusing, both for the reason mentioned above, and because it could be confused with the Episcopal Church of the US, often called Episcopalian. Likewise, referring to the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church is misleading, as the Orthodox Churches and Anglican communion also have 7 sacraments.
If I am not mistaken, a former Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, Mayann Francis, was the daughter of the Priest of the parish in Sydney, Nova Scotia, the only parish outside the US. cordially, --142.163.194.149 (talk) 21:34, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
