The use of "staff officers" and "officers" here is rather problemmatic. Since the KGB used military ranks, presumably by no means all employees were "officers"? "Staff officer has a particular meaning in English. It might be better to go to "members" or "employees". Johnbod (talk) 04:20, 28 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

What is meant are simply "officers" who have a military rank, not the "officers of General Staff". These people are not civilians. The civilians were classified as "trusted contacts" or "informers/helpers". I should probably make to additional page - about KGB informers and Trusted contacts (KGB) to explain this.
