Proposed merge edit

I know these aren't the most looked at pages, so I'll give the proposition a month before I make the move. Here is why I think the articles should be merged: 1. There is basically nothing extra in The Creature in the Case's page; just because it has been released on its own doesn't mean it should have a seperate article. 2. Once I have read Across the Wall (it is released in the UK on November 6) I will hopefully be able to expand this article, including more on each story and maybe quotes from Nix's introductions to each etc. So anyway, I will merge the articles in a month if there is no opposition or a consensus has been reached. Makes sense. I support the merge. The Creature in the Case can then redirect to Across the Wall: A Tale of the Abhorsen and Other Stories. We can integrate any content, especially since The Creature in the Case is effectively an epilogue to the series. Nihiltres 03:20, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Done 2006-11-25.

2012 The Old Kingdom#Nicholas Sayre and the Creature in the Case currently refers to this "Main article". Instead the entry for "Nicholas Sayre ..." in this list of contents should link there for more information. While short that section does explain how "Nicholas Sayre ..." fits The Old Kingdom series. --P64 (talk) 21:57, 31 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Idrach the Lesser Necromancer edit

ISFDB lists one more story in the Old Kingdom series, thus fourteen fictions including two in the series.

  • [page] 377 • An Extract of the Journal of Idrach the Lesser Necromancer • [The Old Kingdom / Abhorsen] • (2005) • shortstory by Garth Nix

It also lists a nonfiction Preface by Nix.

Across the Wall (first Australia edition, 2005) publication contents at the Internet Speculative Fiction Database. --P64 (talk) 22:59, 31 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

(I continue to rely on ISFDB thruout.) I overlooked last year that that is the first Australian edition, Across the Wall [no subtitle] (Allen & Unwin Australia, Sep 2005).AU 1a That is the only 2005 printing for which ISFDB provides Contents with page numbers. Another record for that edition (4th printing, same ISBN) provides the same report of Contents with different Notes.AU 1b
For the US edition (Eos, Jul 2005) ISFDB lists only 14 contents including the Preface, in alphabetical order.US 1
For the first--according to another editor, above-- British edition (HarperCollins Children's Books, Nov 2006) ISFDB lists 14 contents including the Preface, with page numbers.UK 1
The main record for Across the Wall: A Tale of the Abhorsen and Other Stories [with subtitle, but covering also the AU editions without subtitle] explicitly notes that the AU ed. comprises 14 items incl two Old Kingdom stories while the US ed. comprises 13 incl one Old Kingdom story.Across the Wall Those counts evidently exclude the Preface.
The main record for shortfiction "An Extract of the Journal of Idrach the Lesser Necromancer" confirms that it has been published only in Australia editions of Across the Wall."Idrach the L.N."
The main record for Old Kingdom series covers omnibus eds. --"O/1-3" and "O/1-3+nv"-- whose records show in turn that AU and US omnibuses identically include "The Creature in the Case" and exclude "Idrach the Lesser Necromancer".Old Kingdom
We mention "13 main stories" and list only 13 items, without Preface, one of which ISFDB labels essay rather than story, "My New Really Epic Fantasy Series".
Do the US and UK editions include introductions to all items, as ISFDB reports[1] about the AU edition in the Notes?

Good question! I have the US edition, so I can check for sure on that one. SarahTheEntwife (talk) 19:23, 9 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
