Features source

edit

Could the gradient chevrons on an OS map be used as a ref? Are the hills and bends sufficiently notable to be described as features? The possibility of cautions to caravan folk could be a guide to severity of the features. SovalValtos (talk) 19:54, 18 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

The chevrons indicate > 14-20% and >> 20%. Knowing this area quite well, I would say the hills and bends on this road were not notable for this area, so not really significant in this article. Tony Holkham (Talk) 22:44, 18 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
I am removing the un-cited section. SovalValtos (talk) 05:17, 19 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Safety

edit

I expect there is some policy for Road articles on safety/accidents. I do not yet know what it is. I am not sure that listing individual events unless greatly notable is the correct route to follow. If nothing else the events will be weighted to the more modern due to the ease of finding sources. Recentism. Listing accidents under 'Safety' is rather like calling a War Office a Ministry of Defence! SovalValtos (talk) 12:32, 19 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

To editor SovalValtos: It's work in progress, and I'm feeling my way a bit. I'm trying to put over the idea that the road has decreased in safety over the years and has been reclassified as a result. I think safety is a relevant issue in road articles, and it might be argued that most roads increase in safety over time (but not the A475). Trying to find the right balance. I take your point about recentism, but that's a WP-wide difficulty. Tony Holkham (Talk) 12:52, 19 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sorry to interfere when work in progress. I have found the 'under construction' and 'in use' hat notes useful on occasion to keep away interference. If anyone has access to 1930s local newspaper archives, a long term comparison of incidents might be possible. But then that might be OR!SovalValtos (talk) 13:04, 19 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
You're not interfering at all. I do use the hat notes sometimes, but work on this article isn't urgent, so I didn't. I don't have a great deal of time for WP at the moment, so don't want to hold back others' efforts. Tony Holkham (Talk) 14:08, 19 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
