Changes in Party affiliation edit

The tables 'TDs by party' and 'TDs by constituency' are records of TDs and their party affiliation (or lack of) at election time. Do NOT modify it if a TD changes his/her party/status.

The Changes table at the end of the article records these changes.

For example, someone updated it to change the status of John O'Donoghue from Fianna Fail (FF) to Ceann Comhairle (CC). This means that the table would read that O'Donoghue was returned as the CC in the 2007 election whereas it was Rory O'Hanlon.

If in future, a TD joins another party, e.g. if Beverly Flynn re-re-joins Fianna Fáil, the Changes table will reflect the change from Independent to FF. The TDs by party table should not be changed because she was elected as an Independent TD.

Repeat the tables are NOT a record of the current status of the Dáil, they are a historical record of the 2007 general election. Regards, Snappy56 22:48, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Jim McDaid edit

Is Jim McDaid still a member of Fianna Fail? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.42.220.49 (talk) 16:15, 7 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I thought he just lost the parliamentary party whip but still a member of FF, unlike Joe Behan who left the party completely. Snappy (talk) 03:00, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Just checked ElectionsIreland.org, see [1], McDaid is still a member of FF, just currently doesn't have the party whip. The changes table is for those who change party affiliation only. Snappy (talk) 10:34, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Seamus Brennan edit

Should there be some sort of note/reference to the fact that Seamus Brennan is dead????howth575 (talk) 12:51, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

There is, see the Changes table at the end. For Tony Gregory too, both with references. Snappy (talk) 04:08, 31 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Devins - Independent or FF? edit

From Irish Times 5 August 2009 - When asked would he continue to vote for Fianna Fáil, Mr Devins said he would "consider every vote as it comes up on the basis of what the vote is for and the implications of that vote, I will then make a decision as to how I vote."

He said he will remain a member of the party. “I was born into Fianna Fáil, I’ve been in Fianna Fáil all my life and I intend to remain within Fianna Fáil," the TD said. "This is not about Jimmy Devins or about Fianna Fáil, this this about patients' lives." - [2]. This does not made him an independent TD, just an FF TD who is currently not following the party whip. I have listed McDaid, Devins and Scanlan as no longer having the FF party whip in the Changes table. They cannot be considered Independents as they are still members of the Fianna Fail. Only if they leave the party completely like Joe Behan could they be considered truly independent. Snappy (talk) 13:32, 8 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
There is a difference between resigning the FF party whip like McDaid, Devins and Scanlan, and leaving the party completely like Behan. Resigning the party whip is still worth a mention in the changes table. Also, McDaid, Devins and Scanlan no longer have a page on the FF website. Snappy (talk) 17:54, 12 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Loss of Party whip edit

McDaid, Devins and Scanlan no longer have the Fianna Fáil party whip which means that they don't HAVE to vote with FF, so technically it is a loss to FF but will leave it blank since there are objections. Anyway, loss of party whip is still notable enough to be mentioned in the changes table. Btw, if they are still FF why then do the three TDs no longer have pages on the FF website, as soon as they lost the party whip, their FF pages were swiftly deleted.
