Purpose of list edit

@Yachty4000 Hi, in your last edit of this page you mentioned, that you want the list to be a list of available boats. I would like to know the reasoning behind that. As I see it, this was only an interesting list until the candidates were announced. Now boats without skippers don`t have a chance of ever taken to the starting line. Some examples: In the case of Be Water Positive the skipper and owner (Scott Sawyer) has clearly stated that he does not plan to compete in 2024 (https://www.sail-world.com/news/268244/Scott-Shawyer-and-Nick-Moloney-preparing). Additionally, if this would be a list of all available boats, there are several 2008 generation boats missing, like e.g. IMOCA 60 Temenos 2.

As I see the benefit for a list of IMOCA 60s, I started to do this list: Draft:List of IMOCA 60 yachts. But, since I am not sure if this justifies an article in itself I abandoned that idea and created this template: Template:IMOCA 60 sailing yachts.

Long story short: I get your sentiment but do not see why boats with no prospect for the 2024 VG should be included. Let me know your thoughts. V.Glas (talk) 21:48, 5 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@V.GlasThe limiting factor on who takes part is the supply of boats not skippers. This is why the page started of as a list of boats. I have a similar list Draft:List of IMOCA 60 yachts as a spreadsheet of IMOCA which help me write tables for results on wikipedia.
Here is what I have for eligible boats but the list has all boat on it. It formation was what led to me creating boat pages as wiki french has them already:

as per the page
Are you any good a modifiying templates to link to wikidata? If so can we open a discussion on wiki sailing project.

Thank you for the explanation! Unfortunately I have no experience with wikidata :( --V.Glas (talk) 19:30, 29 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
