Crossfit the duel edit

@Hzh Hi there, I was thinking for the duel that the time and round should be switched in regards to whats in the brackets as the time was the thing that actually gained athletes points and the round was just the byproduct? I understand its listed how you've done it on the rogue website but I feel it would make more sense reversed. Let me know what you think Brandon Downes (talk) 22:35, 30 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

It's possible to reverse it. There is one issue we need to keep in mind - this is an elimination type event, those fastest in one round advance to the next round. It is conceivable that someone in a later round can have a slower time than those already eliminated (for example, Jeff Adler fell in a later round, so he ended up with a slower time than the lower-ranked person already eliminated. But, no one listed in that table is slower than the lower ranked one, so that is not a problem. Reverse the numbers if you wish. Hzh (talk) 23:13, 30 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Brandon Downes: BTW, do know know of a way of making a table that shows only a smaller portion of it (you can scroll down to see the rest of the table), but one that stays to the right of the text? The examples I've seen align to the left. I want to keep the table for each event small so that it doesn't look too cluttered and messy. Hzh (talk) 23:29, 30 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Hzh: I unfortunately dont know how to do that sorry and yeah personally idk if it would be better to do the tables similar to the strongman tables as you are able to control the size more as with the differing routines per event theres no real consistency in table size at the moment. Also do you happen to know if athletes were penalised and points removed for not taking part in an event? I've nearly finished all the mens points for the tables but Victor Hoffer is confusing me he's listed as 360 points on the rogue website but I can't seem to get it right as after 8 events I have a score of 345 but with a 17th in the final event which gives you 20 his total would be 365. The only thing I can think is he was penalised and had 5 points removed for missing event 6 as all other athletes points add up correctly but I'm not sure as I dont watch crossfit religiously. Hoffer did not lift in the 1RM deadlift, so he got penalized for that. Bethany Flores also did not lift in another event (she has a back injury), she got nothing there as well.
I'm still thinking about how to do the table best. There are too many competitors which may make page look messy. Maybe something scrollable. I'll think about that tomorrow. Hzh (talk) 00:15, 31 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Agh ok thats perfect I'll finish the women's points now and yeah the messiness is difficult to control with the table and text the way it is. Brandon Downes (talk) 00:28, 31 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've made the tables scrollable, and since those names lower down are not shown immediately, they can be filled in later. I'm considering doing the same thing for the CrossFit Games, but there are more athletes and events, which makes it more time-consuming. Perhaps it is possible to grab the numbers off CrossFit Games website automatically with a script, I'll think about doing it that way. Hzh (talk) 13:16, 31 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Hzh Hi, unfortunately these tables dont work for people accessing the article using mobile. The tables dont work for me unless using my phone in landscape and then they still clash and cover some of the text listing the events format. One way I was maybe thinking of doing it would be to have the top 5 in a table the same as the strongman events and then have a collapsed table for 6th through 20th then it wont make the page long due to massive tables but the information would still be accessible if somebody wanted to see it. But not sure what you think about that. Brandon Downes (talk) 17:18, 31 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Interesting. It works well on mine on landscape, on portrait I may need to add a horizontal scroll. Which mobile or browser are you using? I'll play with the tables for a bit, check later and see if it improves. Hzh (talk) 17:41, 31 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Hzh Hi, can you give my Sandbox a quick look I feel what I've got there is pretty clean and it also works for me on mobile, I need to finish off all the flags and the actual tables but you can get the gist of what it looks like overall. Lemme know what you think Brandon Downes (talk) 18:55, 31 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Looks OK to me. I'd prefer the table to align right, but if it causes issues with other mobiles/browsers, then do it the way you find most suitable. I would however advise against using too many flag icons per MOS:TOOMANY. Hzh (talk) 19:06, 31 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Brandon Downes: Just to let you know that I made an error in the scoring - the last place person gets a zero score. So Hoffer could well have been penalized for not lifting, but since he was last anyway, (Edited to say that he was not last, so he was indeed penalized.) he would still get a zero score whatever the case.
