I have to note about new system formation edit

Please don't add low pressure areas and well marked low pressure areas to this article because they are not tropical cyclones yet but more monsoon troughs, Depression is the lowest of tropical cyclone intensity See Tropical_cyclone_scales#North_Indian_Ocean so wait for India Meteorological Department (IMD) upgrade to Depression before adding to article.

Also low pressure areas and well marked low pressure areas don't get designation numbers until they become depressions as IMD only designating numbers (BOB 01 or ARB 01) when system reached depression intensity.

Thanks. EllaCyclone (talk) 09:20, 1 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Draft article for Cyclone Amphan - help requested edit

Can anyone help put together an article for Cyclone Amphan? Given its track and current rate of intensity, I worry an article will be required sooner than later. I imagine there will be lots of preparations in the coming days. If those preparations work, then us Earthicans can avert another tragedy in a year dominated by Covid. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:30, 17 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

It definitely requires an article— I haven’t ever put one together from scratch but I’ll at least get one going. BloolizardK (talk) 08:02, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@BloolizardK: Be WP:BOLD! This would be considered a page split; click that link for more info.--Jasper Deng (talk) 08:04, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
@BloolizardK: In that spirit, I've published the skeleton of that article after cleaning it up a little. I don't have time to really spruce it up, but it'll be needed.--Jasper Deng (talk) 10:04, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

SuCS edit

@BloolizardK, EllaCyclone, and JavaHurricane: Can we please wait until the official IMD website shows the upgrade? We cannot be assured of that Twitter account's authenticity without the blue check, see WP:SPS. This isn't a race.--Jasper Deng (talk) 07:55, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

I’m dumb, sorry, didn’t see this at all— I can totally go back and revert everything if you’d like. Mea culpa, super new to editing on here. BloolizardK (talk) 08:04, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@BloolizardK: No, it's okay; I've changed my own mind, though we should indeed replace the tweet once we have official bulletins. Don't feel bad, it's part of the learning process.--Jasper Deng (talk) 08:09, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Twitter is not reliable source so it should stay ESCS until IMD officially put SuCS on their official website. EllaCyclone (talk) 08:09, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Pressure edit

How is pressure handled here. Do we use JTWC numbers or IMD numbers? AVeryWiseWolfy (talk) 08:00, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@AVeryWiseWolfy: IMD because they are the official Regional Specialized Meteorological Center, even though JTWC's numbers are closer to reality.--Jasper Deng (talk) 08:03, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Lower pressure edit

When I first visited the Cyclone Amphan page, it was a category 4 equivalent and quoted as having 925mb pressure. However that was during the weakening phase. It should have had lower pressure during the brief time it was a category 5. B137 (talk) 01:33, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

The first thing to note is that on Wikipedia we take the pressure from the IMD who thought that at Amphan's peak it had a minimum pressure of 925 hPa, however, the JTWC disagrees with this and notes the minimum pressure as 907 hPa. This is likely to be due to a mixture of different forecast processes at the warning centers as well as different wind-pressure relationships.Jason Rees (talk) 01:59, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
901 was the lowest pressure on the Cyclone article. That was when the sustained wind was at 165 but also gusts were edited as 165. B137 (talk) 15:29, 21 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
That is no longer relevant as the JTWC has revised their peak downwards in their rolling best track. This still makes no difference here on WP since we follow the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre which for this basin is the IMD. ~ KN2731 {talk · contribs} 14:25, 22 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

I think ARB 01 deserves an article edit

I think Depression ARB 01 should get an article for all the damage it's causing. It's causing so much damage and deaths that I really think it needs an article. 2020 Oman cyclone, maybe. 🐔Chicdat ChickenDatabase 09:59, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

2020 Arabian depression or flooding might be better. Jason Rees (talk) 11:50, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
You're right. 🐔Chicdat ChickenDatabase 13:20, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Based on existing articles, we have 2008 Yemen cyclone and 1996 Oman cyclone. So I'm not sure if "Arabian" is the best descriptor, since the Arabian Peninsula is a pretty large area, and this system largely affected Oman (and Yemen to a degree). JMHO ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 14:41, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
So, what is it, Oman cyclone, or Oman flooding? 🐔Chicdat ChickenDatabase 10:00, 1 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Oman Cyclone Maybe @Chicdat

Future Bob 03/ Land Depression 01 edit

A Land Depression OR A Depression/Deep Could Form Tomorrow Or 3 Days. Hurricanestudier123 (talk) 03:47, 11 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Hurricanestudier123: Yes a land depression or deep depression could develop tomorrow, however, we do not designate the systems ourselves and rely on the IMD as the RSMC for it.Jason Rees (talk) 11:19, 11 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Unofficial? edit

One unofficial system? What is that mean? I can't understand --МОДОКАУ 00:36, 22 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

JTWC has a system as a cyclonic storm while IMD has a system weaker than a cyclonic storm -- VOFFA

@Modokai: JTWC uses one-minute sustained winds while IMD uses three-minute sustained winds.

Deep Depression ARB 04 Article edit

I have made a draft for Deep Depression ARB 04 due to its threat to Somalia. You can find it at “Draft:Deep Depression ARB 04 (2020)”. Robloxsupersuperhappyface (talk) 05:02, 22 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Cyclone Gati or Deep Depression??? edit

According to IMD, the latest bulletin haven't issued yet, so stop the edit fight. Also JTWC is unofficial and the official RSMC is IMD. Beraniladri19🌀🌀 (talk) 07:29, 22 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Other people, including me were probably looking at IMD's Satellite Bulletin data which at the time showed ARB04 was at T2.5 at around 0300AM (0830AM) which they did upgrade the system. ~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Grifforzer (talkcontribs) 15:42, 22 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
