Renaming article

After the recent discussion at WT:MOTORSPORT decided the "season" moniker should be removed from most articles I researched the name of the championship and fopund that ADAC TCR series is not in wide use. Looking up at the official website I found the official name of the championship is 2016 ADAC TCR Germany Touring Car Championship. So after moving the article to that name User:Corvus tristis moves it back to 2016 ADAC TCR Germany Series citing WP:COMMONNAME despite that name not being recoignised by official bodies. Citing precise I move it back 2016 ADAC TCR Germany Touring Car Championship. Corvus tristis moves it again, this time to 2016 ADAC TCR Germany again citing Common name. How many common names does it have and doesn't backing multiple common names suggest that the name is not that common? Then Corvus tristis states that ADAC TCR Germany is precise enough despite the fact that it is two acronyms and Germany and does not imply any form of motor racing at all.

I believe that 2016 ADAC TCR Germany Touring Car Championship fits WP:PRECISE while the apparent multiplicity of series names (including for example removing ADAC from the title) suggests there may not be a single common name. --Falcadore (talk) 08:19, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Googling I found 2016 ADAC TCR Germany 1, 2 or 3 whithout series or Touring Car Championship, so it seems to be the official and most common name (I didn't get exact references for 2016 ADAC TCR Germany Touring Car Championship). I found a few for 2016 ADAC TCR Germany Championship, but not enough. Altough ADAC TCR Germany is not precise enough (it would be best if we could expand TCR, but I couldn't the find a reference for the "R" (could it be Touring Car Racing?)], the mother competition is named only TCR International Series, so the best option, seems to me, to leave the article as 2016 ADAC TCR Germany, since the first paragraph is clear enough (maybe adding some test and the relation with TCR International would be great).Rpo.castro (talk) 10:14, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

TCR, is being used in a similar manner as GT; eg GT1, GT2, GT3, GT4 etc. So we have GT Championship, GT4 Series etc. --Falcadore (talk) 12:26, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

TCR is the name of the rulest as I understand it. Like Group A or GT3 or F4 etc. The name of the ruleset is not necessarily the name of the championship. For example, TCR is the current ruleset for the Italian Touring Car Championship, which does not have TCR anywhere in its name. --Falcadore (talk) 12:29, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Reply to Falcadore: I don't know if TCR is the rulest. I think the rulest is TC3 (below TC1 and TC2 from WTCC). The series was to be called "TC3 International Series".Rpo.castro (talk) 23:04, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

I should also point out that Touring Car Championship is a common moniker for a series; Asia-Pacific Touring Car Championship, Australian Touring Car Championship, British Touring Car Championship, Italian Touring Car Championship, Japanese Touring Car Championship , North American Touring Car Championship, New Zealand Touring Car Championship, Spanish Touring Car Championship etc --Falcadore (talk) 12:33, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Where do you get ADAC TCR Germany Touring Car Championship from Falcadore? I can't spot it on the website. I'd also be a little surprised as surely DTM is the German Touring Car Championship..?

Common name is generally a key guideline, but it is only one of the criteria we use when naming an article. If there are multiple names commonly used for the subject, or the common name is ambiguous or does not accurately describe the subject, then the naming guidelines are clear that an alternative name is preferable. To quote WP:COMMONNAME; Ambiguous or inaccurate names for the article subject, as determined in reliable sources, are often avoided even though they may be more frequently used by reliable sources. ... When there are multiple names for a subject, all of them fairly common, and the most common has problems, it is perfectly reasonable to choose one of the others. Okay I see it now. If it's the official name, it would make it an acceptable alternate name. As I said, we can deviate from common name when it's problematic, and if there simply isn't a common name in use - which I don't think there is as this series is brand new - it's then up to us to decide on the article title.
