I'll be taking this review on. Looks like a good article so far, but I haven't gone through a full examination yet. Toa Nidhiki05 18:42, 28 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose):   b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
1b criterion is met; 1a has a few grammar issues that need to be fixed.
Lede
  • "...to determine the Mid-American Conference (MAC) champion, part of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS)" seems a bit confusing to me - it can be interpreted as being unclear as to whether being part of the FBS refers to the MAC as a whole or to just the MAC champion. I would suggest rephrasing to something clearer, like "to determine the champion of the Mid-American Conference (MAC), a college athletic conference that is a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS)".
  • The full stop between "The rushing attacks differed, however" and "Northern Illinois' was led by junior quarterback Jordan Lynch, who finished fourth in the nation in rushing, while Kent State's was led by a running back tandem consisting of Dri Archer and Trayion Durham" seems a bit awkward to me. I would suggest combining the two sentences by replacing the full stop with a transition like 'as', or by replacing the full stop with a semicolon.
  • "The game went in to two overtime periods and, after Northern Illinois won 44-37, they were selected to participate in the 2013 Orange Bowl". Also a bit unclear; to those unfamiliar with the college overtime rules, what 'overtime' is might be unclear. A good idea might be to specify that the game was tied at the end of regulation time, and that two overtime periods were required to determine the winner. Additionally, I would suggest splitting the bit about Northern Illinois being selected to the Orange Bowl into its own sentence.
Potential BCS implications
  • All phrasing seems to be good to me. The only thing I would suggest is to specify that the Big East is an AQ conference, as that is not noted here and might not be obvious to readers that are not familiar with FBS football.
Pre-game buildup
  • Insert an 'and' before "...led the team with 75 receptions for 1,083 yards."
  • Remove the 'but' in "...but they did create the second-most turnovers in the country with 38 which trailed only Oregon." I would also suggest adding a comma after '38'.
  • The sentence "For the third consecutive season, defensive lineman Roosevelt Nix achieved first-team all-conference honors and totaled 6 sacks as well as 15 tackles for loss" needs to be reworded, because it suggests that, in addition to being first-team all conference, he recorded 6 sacks and 15 tackles for losses for three consecutive seasons.
Game notes
  • "After the Huskies not scoring on their next drive, Kent State capitalized again on a 37-yard field goal by Freddy Cortez." Reword 'not scoring' to 'failed to score'.
  1. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (reference section):   b (citations to reliable sources):   c (OR):
I do not see any issues here.
  2. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects):   b (focused):
    Good coverage.
  3. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
Neutral attitude is maintained throughout the article.
  4. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  5. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free content have fair use rationales):   b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
Only one image is used, and it is properly licensed.
  6. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
Overall, good work. Once the grammar issues are fixed, I have no issue passing this article. Toa Nidhiki05 19:09, 28 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

All are   Done, I believe. Go Phightins! 19:41, 28 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Alright, looks good to me; I'll go ahead and pass this. Keep up the good work on college football articles! :) Toa Nidhiki05 19:49, 28 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
