Add Alenga edit

Alenga needs to be added. It has formed. 68.113.150.95 (talk) 00:59, 6 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

It was added yesterday. ----Bruvtakesover (talk!) 01:11, 6 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Oops, I was looking at an outdated version of the article. 68.113.150.95 (talk) 02:16, 6 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Clarity for reader - area of the world? edit

Quick comment.

I accessed this article interested to follow up on the cyclone Alenga.

I had trouble working out where the storm is in broader region of the Indian Ocean. Visually, I was trying to place it from the text, then the map indicating cyclone track. I thought it could be off the SW coast of India or Indonesia or Sri Lanka. I probably should be able to tell from which cyclone centre is tracking it, but this is not general knowledge for a random reader. I could look up latitude and longitude, but my interest was for a quick glance read.

Value your article and timeliness. Offering this suggestion/feedback from someone who is a random reader out there. I searched and came to this wiki article from reading about this cyclone on the Phys Org site re NASA s TRMM satellite observations of Alenga.

Thanks a lot for your input! There aren't many editors, so if you wanted to join the project, we could use your help! That being said, I hope I took care of your comment. I added into on where the basin was located. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 01:06, 7 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I know. But the local newspapers have not been published online yet. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 08:56, 21 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I saw it somewhere online yesterday... can't find it anymore. Bruvtakesover (T|C) 09:00, 21 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Wait. I am going to try something. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 09:02, 21 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Funso sandbox edit

Here is the sandbox for Funso. I'm working on the MH right now. Anyone is welcome to work on the impact section. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:34, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please create the article, so everyone can edit easily. -- Meow 12:34, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, because an IP from Hong Kong has created a (very undetailed) sandbox for Funso over at AFC. Bruvtakesover (T|C) 12:44, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Can anyone help with this sandbox? I'm working on the MH, so if anyone could help with the impact, that'd be great. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:54, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

In your own time .... edit

It seems the web site of the Madagascar Ministry of Public Works and Meteorology has been down for maintenance for over two years! Not a good source of emergency preparedness information, then.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 13:58, 11 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Well it looks like we'll have to find something else for Giovanna then. Bruvtakesover (T|C) 14:01, 11 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Giovanna edit

Giovanna has become the most dangerous tropical cyclone in early 2012 and a major threat to Madagascar. Should we create Cyclone Giovanna? -- Meow 18:52, 13 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes. Bruvtakesover (T|C) 19:07, 13 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm on it. HF25 21:56, 13 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

The strongest edit

Giovanna has lower central pressure, but Funso has higher maximum sustained winds. Why is the strongest one Giovanna instead of Funso? -- Meow 19:16, 13 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Because AFAIK we go via pressure and not winds for strongest tc.Jason Rees (talk) 19:18, 13 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
I already know this, but I wonder the reason. -- Meow 20:04, 13 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Pressure is a more reliable way of determining the power of a storm system whereas the winds are a byproduct of the pressure. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 21:03, 13 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thus, do you mean that a tropical storm may be weaker than a tropical depression because of higher pressure? That is really ridiculous. -- Meow 04:52, 14 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

i agree with you, user:"Meow".But the thing is, cyclones which are a low pressure area, and the lower the stronger.218.102.162.202 (talk) 13:08, 14 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Many extratropical cyclones which higher than 1,000 hPa had higher maximum winds (≥50kt). In 2011, both Talas and Sonca were 970 hPa, but they were STS and TY. Also, all agencies use winds instead of pressure to judge the strength. -- Meow 08:12, 19 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
You mean anticyclones? Jivesh1205 (Talk) 08:57, 19 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Irina clearly deserves an article of its own. Just look at the lives it took, and the places it impacted. 72.197.249.141 (talk) 01:02, 8 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
