Nothing on Canada?

There is no mention of political happenings in Canada under Regional Politics. E.g. election of Justin Trudeau, etc. Yet most other countries are covered, no matter what their size. Tony (talk) 18:06, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

delineation of article scope

the current decade seemed to be the most simplest way to delineate this article, even though there are less than four weeks until the next decade starts. we can reconsider the scope of this article if necessary, or else simply start a new article for the 2020s when needed. --Sm8900 (talk) 16:48, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

possible article name

we may change the name of this article to List of political events in 2010s. or else maybe to 2010s in politics and government. this is to reflect that this article is not a full historical chronicle of the 2010s in world politics. --Sm8900 (talk) 01:24, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

Article structure makes no sense

It makes no sense to divide events into the early and late parts of the decade. Too many things had influence throughout the 10 years (or, say, 2012-2018), and it's frustrating for the reader to have to suddenly scroll down to continue reading about a topic. Plus, the writing won't be as cohesive for the national entries. I will merge the sections if there is no good reason not to.

sorry, but I disagree. we split up historical articles by era all the time. If any topic needs to be covered over the full ten-year period, then each country has its own current history article anyway, in which to do so. so therefore, the division between the first and second halves of the decade should remain. besides, we only put it there to defer to other editors' sensibilities.

some may feel the opposite from your suggestion; i.e., some information might be out of date if we tried to apply it to the entire decade; however if we clearly indicate such data as being for the first half of the 2010s, then we are honest about how far or how much it has been updated.

I like the current division by region and issue. Obviously, issues often transcend national boundaries and even continents; similarly, current events usually relate to earlier events and often go on for decades. We can use a similar organization in the article 2020s in political history.Michael E Nolan (talk) 20:46, 14 January 2020 (UTC)

I would like to invite any interested editors here to join the task force for Contemporary History. One of our core goals is to highlight and promote the coverage of contemporary history as its own distinct area here at Wikipedia.
