Uxbridge Lido

Kbthompson suggested some time ago that I nominate any articles on lidos that merit showcasing. Grade II Listed Uxbridge Lido is interesting as it was closed for many years, but is reopening as part of a larger sports complex on 23 March this year. Perhaps showcasing should wait until after the opening when there are photographs of the renovated lido.--Lidos (talk) 10:10, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

University College London

An education article is provisionally timetabled for August 2009; as this is just prior to the start of the academic year. Further suggestions are welcomed.

There's been no coverage of higher education in London on the portal as yet, so I suggest showcasing this Good Article. Ham 18:31, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

• Comment I like the idea of having an education article, but the UCL article seems to consist of a few paragraphs of text and a lot of very long lists (plus, almost everything seems to be sourced from their own website, rather than independent sources). On a skim through the various London education articles, it looks to me like the best in Wikipedia terms are London School of Economics and Imperial College London (London Metropolitan University is quite well written, but is horribly unstable & has spent the last few months engulfed in a permanent edit-war so I'd be reluctant to use it as a showcase) — iridescent (talk to me!) 18:42, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Great Northern, Piccadilly and Brompton Railway

This is a brand new companion article to the Charing Cross, Euston and Hampstead Railway above. I am the author of both and I have just put this up as a Featured Article Candidate. --DavidCane (talk) 02:24, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

• Support, but maybe not if we're going to have the CCEHR and DLR as well, and Edgar Speyer goes in the bio page – it's possible to be too train-heavy. (Personally I'd remove the DLR from October and replace it with Baden Powell House, given the 50th anniversary that month). – >iridescent 03:01, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
  • feel free, chomper ... There's a good argument for delaying the DLR until its quality is upped a bit. If this article achieves FA, that makes it a better choice. Ultimately, we need a good mix of buildings, infrastructure, engineering - there's not been a bridge yet, canals. We're now officially backlogged with nearly all the slots filled for the year!     • Hold off on bridges unless you can find a good example, as large-scale revamps of Richmond Lock and Footbridge and Putney Bridge are currently half-finished and sitting offline, with more to (probably) follow. At the moment, most of our bridge articles are quite shoddy. – iridescent 16:23, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
      • I hadn't seen that Edgar Speyer has also been selected for April; I agree with Iridescent that there shouldn't be too many tube articles close together. This one can easily wait for a free slot next year, as there are no pressing anniversaries that would present a strong argument for a particular month.--DavidCane (talk) 17:07, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
        • Why do i feel suddenly that this is a "we will only take the best among you" situation? Regardless of the above noms it seems in this discussion that we are to focus on FAs, despite what it says at the top. Simply south (talk) 18:57, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
          • Popular acclamation should determine; but quality does have an impact on the argument; maybe we should discuss this on the talk page and lay down a few guidelines for me. Kbthompson (talk) 19:28, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
            • Looking down the list, the only FAs are Chelsea FC, the two rail lines and Baden-Powell House. The current portal article, Broadwater Farm, isn't even a GA, much less an FA. I nominated most of those above, to try to provide a mix of articles to choose from, and was just going by topics I thought were interesting, rather than any GA/FA status (although I did avoid anything with maintenance templates or obvious issues). There are only about a dozen London-related FA, many of which have already been on the portal, so even if we did stick to an "FA only" rule we'd run out fairly quickly if it's going to be updated each month. – [[User:Iridescent|iridescent 19:39, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
