MediaWiki talk:Titleblacklist-forbidden-move

Latest comment: 2 years ago by Izno in topic Escaping piped links edit request

Quick heads up: I removed $1 (which is the actual regex itself), since leaving it in is just asking for it to be circumvented :P --slakrtalk / 23:56, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Someone should check the order of $2 and $3 variables, MediaWiki has changed and makes it fuzzy. Vinhtantran (talk) 02:49, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please change this to

Reasons:

  1. It mentions both local and global blacklists.
  2. There is no way to know which blacklist entry was tripped. This is problematic when there are errors on the local or global blacklists. The extendedconfirmed-show makes sure that well-established users can always see the entry that was tripped. Aasim 00:40, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I've done this but I'm not sure if it is wise to change the wording from "moved" to "renamed" because the interface uses the term "move". Shall I change this back? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:02, 11 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
They are essentially the same thing. And please implement https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki_talk:Titleblacklist-forbidden-move/sandbox&diff=prev&oldid=977886910 as it stops pipes that are in the $1 parameter from breaking the message. Aasim 15:58, 11 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
I don't like "renamed" here either, we should be consistent. The only thing we 'rename' are usernames. — xaosflux Talk 13:51, 17 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
+1 for move ~ Amory (utc) 14:32, 20 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
I have changed it back to "moved", and started a thread at WP:VPT to get advice on the fmbox issue. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:06, 22 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I have disabled the request for now as the OP has so far declined to test his changes on the testwiki. Please see Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Escaping a pipe character in system messages for more. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:50, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Please implement the changes I did in the sandbox for both pages. There was concern that pipe characters would break the message if a template was used, and that still is the case. Unfortunately there is no real fix for this unless if the MediaWiki parser passed {{!}} instead of the pipe character into the message. It might be possible with a new module but this code is a quick and easy fix until such a module can be created.   Not done for now: I'd really rather prefer you/someone work on dealing with this correctly than adding two more additional workarounds of this nature. It will save me time and energy down the road. Izno (talk) 07:54, 10 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
