Discotexas edit

Discotexas (often abbreviated as DTX) is an electronic music label founded in Lisbon, Portugal. Established in 2007 by Moullinex and Xinobi also known as Luis Clara Gomes and Bruno Cardoso, respectively.[1]

The origins of Discotexas reflect a community ethos, emerging from the collaborative efforts of its founders. Initially conceived as a loose collective orchestrating parties within Lisbon's music landscape, DTX evolved into a platform for releasing their own music. During this evolution, the label embraced other artists, both admired professionals and personal connections, who resonated with their creative vision. The ethos of collaboration is central to Discotexas's approach, encouraging creative synergy among its artists and collaborators. Since its inception, DTX has been celebrated for its distinctive sound and diverse roster, drawing praise from critics and audiences alike.[2]

Discotexas audience is dispersed across the globe. Their artists actively interact with audiences through curated playlists on music streaming services. This engagement has contributed to the label's growing recognition worldwide.[3]

History edit

2007–2009: Early days edit

Discotexas began with a slow start, releasing only three records during this era. A significant moment during this time was the Moullinex & Xinobi Australia tour, which expanded the label's reach internationally.[4] DJ sets at Lux club in Lisbon contributed to its presence in the local music scene. Additionally, Discotexas hosted a showcase at the Sudoeste Festival, furthering its visibility within Portugal's music festival circuit.[5]

2010-2014: Forbidden Cuts edit

This period marked the ascent of Discotexas, characterized by significant milestones and prolific output. The label's debut under the catalog number DT001 saw the release of "Forbidden Cuts Vol. I," its first 12” vinyl featuring tracks from Moullinex, Xinobi, and Rockets, signaling a bold entrance into the music scene.

Discotexas continued to expand its reach globally. Collaborations with artists from Poland, such as Iwona Skwarek from the Rebeka project and Kamp!, and the Australian duo Philosophy Of Sound demonstrated the label's commitment to exploring new musical territories.

Noteworthy performances included Discotexas Live's appearance at the 5th anniversary of Lisbon's Musicbox venue, sharing the stage with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaur and Xinobi.

In 2012, The Discotexas Band, comprising Moullinex, Xinobi, and Da Chick, took the stage at Rock in Rio Lisbon and the Milhões de Festa festival. The band's performances featured reactive visuals controlled live by Midi messages, enhancing the immersive experience for concert-goers.

Further international ventures took the label founders to Russia, Colombia, China, Argentina, Australia, Turkey and Mexico, expanding Discotexas' global footprint. Furthermore, Moullinex collaborations with renowned artists like Peaches and performances at esteemed venues like Casa da Música further solidified Discotexas's presence in the global music scene.

In 2014, the label's first release was the single of Moullinex's "To Be Clear" extracte from his debut album "Flora" which was release through Gomma Records. Additionally, the debut of London-based artist Jonjo Jury, accompanied by a remix from Bufi, was celebrated with a free download, showcasing the label's commitment to supporting emerging talents.

During this era, Discotexas unveiled four Label Compilation albums: "Bucket Of Love, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2" and "Discotexas Picnic I and Discotexas Picnic II," showcasing a diverse range of talent and establishing the label's signature sound with over 40 releases.
