Helpfulness?

edit

How is this category more helpful than a city, county, or state category, such as People from King County, Washington, or similar? ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:27, 13 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

It's beneficial in that it's less pinpointed and groups subjects from a region that shares cultural and geographic features across two different country borders. The standard "____ County, Washington" doesn't account for the larger connected region. Drown Soda (talk) 04:32, 13 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Cat is unsuitable for articles, it may be (or not) useful as higher cat for other cats. --Denniss (talk) 10:04, 13 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Denniss. It is (or should be) simply the union of Category:People from Oregon, Washington and BC. If that's a useful thing to have, just include those categories and let it update automatically. Certes (talk) 10:54, 13 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Following the CfD, I have moved articles beginning with A-M out of this category. In most cases I simply removed the category link, as the person was already in an indirect subcategory. For example, Bruce Abbott is in Category:Male actors from Portland, Oregon, which eventually links up to here. Exception: I added categories to Clifton James. The map on the category page includes part of Idaho, which is not a subcategory of Pacific NW. The only subjects from Idaho appeared to be Chief Joseph and Lee Morse, who are also from Oregon. I'll carry on with N-Z, then update this message. Certes (talk) 19:44, 19 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

All done; no oddities found in N-Z. Certes (talk) 20:10, 19 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
