Cycling shoe edit
Hi,
I am curious why you edited the cycling shoe reference and without comment. I recently put in quite a few updates and changes to the entry and had plans to do additional edits to that entry and also the bicycle pedal entry and probably some others. The information in both was and is quite old and out of date. I'm new at this so I did a poor job with my references and I hope to improve.
The biggest thing I think you changed about the cycling shoe entry was the links to companies selling shoes. Was including those a Wikipedia foul? I think it's helpful for people reading to see there are a lot of options in cycling shoes, especially custom brands and lesser known brands. Your thoughts?

More on the cycling shoe edit

Thanks for the reply. I would argue that since nearly every shoe cycling shoe company was listed, though I had thought of others that should have been added after you deleted the list, it was a resource to a reader rather than spam. Is it against the WP rules to have such a list?
Can you tell me how to fix the references area so that they show up correctly?

Help Required
Hi Ukexpat You'll see that's it's been a while but I'm ready to create my second article after over a year away. I can stll remember a lot of the detail when writing an article in the 'Wiki language' but the admin side of subpages etc is still a complete mystery. I've looked at the basic instructions for beginners again and as before I find them very tricky and over complicated for someone who's staring out. For instance creating a user subpage says something like go to the non existant page and type sav as----- redlink - doesn't make any sense. It's a bit like me saying to someone go down the road and walk down the non existant street! Anyway, I've written an article (which I'm sure can be improved) by setting it up in my contributions - the new one's called William France Snr (Upholsterer & Cabinet-Maker.
I'd like some help (as you can see) on launching it onto the live Wikipedia - with your ok. Last time you put my article on for me. Perhaps you can also give me some guidance on the subpage dilemma and help so I don't have to bother you quite so much, as I have another entry lined up to do next.

Removal of notability concern on page Paul Steenhuisen

There is a question of notability on the Paul Steenhuisen article. I have also directed this through the Help Desk, and am not sure which is the most appropriate venue.
Regarding notability, it can be argued that the content supporting this is already present in the article. c.f. International studies with major figures in the field. Awards from peer-evaluated, juried competitions, performances/ commissioned works from all of the major orchestras in Canada, an artistic residency with a major orchestra (TSO), academic appointment and major grants, and publication of a well-reviewed book by an academic press. Affiliations include important positions with national and international music organizations. Performers are international, and established, acknowledged professionals in the field. Comparison of this article with those of other composers also supports the notability and merit of this one. See other important Canadian composers to compare activity, awards, and achievement: Juliet Palmer, James Rolfe, Udo Kasemets, Linda Catlin Smith, Hildegard Westerkamp, etc (all cited within the Paul Steenhuisen page, and whose articles appear without notability concerns). References are also made to secondary sources, including reviews in national newspapers that verify the activity and support its notability.
Can the notability concern above the page now be removed?

Glad you liked that. I'm still pretty pissed off about it, but it's a brickwall to get the ear of anyone on this. I did some investigating a while back and to the best of my understanding, they implemented it after an "81% acceptance rate" and when you examine how they got that number, it's rather unbelievable that they're citing it with a straight face. What they did was take the results of those people on the Spanish and Portuguese Wikipedias who decided to try the beta and didn't then return to monobook using the "take me back" link; since only 19% went back, this was how they got that number. There's so many things wrong with this it's hard to know where to begin. First, it's self selection—only those who decided to try it were counted. Second (probably most perniciously), at the time of the tests, the vastly improved editing interface was only on Vector and hadn't yet been added to all the skins! That means that the main (and from my perspective) only improvement and thus reason to keep Vector once trying it has no data value because every user who liked the appearance and layout of other skins but stayed because of this chief improvement, would not have stayed if they knew the improvement was in all the skins. Third, I have no idea how many, but many people didn't know how to turn it off once on so they let entropy take over, and yet they have cited this number as proof of a conscious decision to keep it and evidence of people liking it better than monobook. So, all my life I’ve had these two competing paradigms in my head. With the multiverse idea, we have the beautiful melding of these two ideas. The reason being is that we do have this nirvana, this timelessness, this eleven dimensional hyperspace, this arena of string theory. But we also have bubbles that form all the time, almost like a bubble bath. Sometimes the bubbles expand rapidly giving us universes, combine with other bubbles and sometimes even pop. This continual creation, the idea of a multiverse is very pleasing to me because I can now meld Buddhist nirvana with Judeo-Christian epistemology....'

Have a look at one suttas given in the links, for example this: "And what is the earth property? The earth property can be either internal or external. What is the internal earth property? Anything internal, within oneself, that's hard, solid, & sustained [by craving]: head hairs, body hairs, nails, teeth, skin, flesh, tendons, bones, bone marrow, kidneys, heart, liver, membranes, spleen, lungs, large intestines, small intestines, contents of the stomach, feces, or anything else internal, within oneself, that's hard, solid, and sustained: This is called the internal earth property." How does this need a citation that not a vision of subatomic particles are mentioned? It's totally obvious, in fact, specifically defined in this way to avoid ambiguity. I suggest removing that request. Let me know, though, if I misunderstand something... An apology that kind of morphed into venting (so I apologize for that too)
Sorry if I was brusque at the help desk [1]; I had just returned from a look at MFD for the first time in a long while, and was nearly driven to rage and/or tears by the sheer amount of time being wasted by some of the people there, who appear to do nothing all day but look for other people's user pages that they don't think "meet Code", and then nominate one after the other for deletion.
About 90% of the time, sending a user subpage to MFD does not really help anything; it's much more likely to cause ill will and add another brick in the wall. The amount of server space being used saving each version of the MFD pages each time someone votes "delete" is probably an order of magnitude higher than the server space occupied by these mostly unused user space hidden pages, guest books, and "vandalize here instead of my talk page" pages, and if the page is deleted we don't get that server space back anyway. We're evidently even deleting unused sandboxes now. Subpages like this don't get in anyone's way, and are usually only nominated by determined busybodies actively looking for them, or people in an unrelated dispute with the user, who just want to give them grief. The condescending attitude displayed by some of the nominators and commenters there is an example of all that is Wrong With WikipediaTM.
I have a hard time assuming good faith with someone who's ninth edit is to tattle to teacher about another user's 2.5+ year old subpage, since it appears he might be on the opposite side of a content dispute regarding reliable genealogical sources. And his "Welcome to Wikipedia" templating of a user who's been here since 2004 is a bit mind boggling.
Anyway, I suspect - even though you agreed with me on this specific page - that you and I don't agree in general on the need, or benefit/cost ratio, of MFD'ing many of these pages. But my annoyance is directed at people who don't spend their time helping other people; I didn't mean to make it look like it was snark directed at you. Your long-term time and dedication on the helpdesk is more beneficial to newbies and content editors than my occasional quoting of WP:Editors matter will ever be. So, allow me to present.... How To change a Reference URL
I don't know how to change an existing URL for a reference on a Wiki page. The Help and FAQ are not helpful.

I have no idea how to change the URL for reference 2 "DIS 7 Overview" or how to get to the "Reflist".
The present link for Ref. 2 is broken due to the site having been redesigned.
The present link on the Wiki page is: "http://www.sisostds.org/index.php?tg=fileman&idx=list&id=25&gr=Y&path=1+-+DIS+PSG+-+General+Information%2FDIS+Introduction+and+Briefings"
The correct link is now: "http://www.sisostds.org/DigitalLibrary.aspx?EntryId=29288"
Could you please show me how to make this change? Also, I think this is a protected Wiki URL. If so, how do I make the change to a protected URL?

Help Understanding How to Correct an Orphan Page
Hello, I was wondering if I could get your assistance one more time regarding my article 'BroadMap'. It now appears that it has been asked to have the article link to other pages and I'm not sure what I need to do in this regard. I can create another article that will link to it, but I'm not really sure how else to remedy the latest note given to the article. 140th Year Anniversary Celebration of the Emancipation Proclamation
Hello,
I am fairly new to wiki. I created an article and after a lengthy process of trial and error, plus, chat help, I was able to create an article. Much thanks to the chat team for their invaluable help. Wikipedia submission process is much different from any other process I have incurred while uploading content to the web. While there are numerous help support pages on any given subject matter, some are still fairly ambiguous.
My article was created on October 7, 2010 and I am still trying to figure out how to upload one picture. I used the upload form and it goes through the process. It is a logo so I have to give reason for non free, fair use which I may or may not have hit the mark on that one. The support pages regarding the process have not explained how to get the image into the article after it is uploaded.
If someone can please help me with this process I would greatly appreciate it. I have gone through the upload process 4 times with no final remedy. My article is still without an image. I have the copyright permission/info which I am providing as a reference as well. What am I doing wrong? The page is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/140th_Year_Anniversary_Celebration_of_the_Emancipation_Proclamation. Not sure what the talk pages are used for either. This is the third or fourth time I have left info regarding this on a talk page including my own without response. Again, is there something I am not doing right? Thank you, for your support. It now appears as if it comes out of thin air? Who authored it? Where did the concept come from? How did America come to know it was the 140TH Year Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation? I thank the wiki team for any support they can lend us in writing good articles. As I stated before I have been using wiki for years and didn't notice anything any different then what I saw on several articles I have used in the past for my research. The newbies to wiki, don't necessarily know all that is acceptable or unacceptable when contributing. It is almost easier for someone else to write these articles to get the right tone. Please, in the future could you guide us without making it personal? The term self serving is a little harsh. Mainly, the link was put there because I was told to provide a reference for everything. That items in wiki articles should be verifiable, somewhere. I thank you for responding back, letting me know what approach to take. For example, I fail to see the difference there is in stating "Mary Peak was a teacher who taught school children under the Emancipation Oak" and "the initiator a graphic designer Cassandra West designed the celebration logo from photographing this historic tree" and providing links (points of reference) for them both. They both tell a story of how something happened.
Anyway, I am learning what works and what doesn't work with a sense of humor. Thank you, again, for your valuable input. These are some tough critiques, and my concern was on the article being poorly written by an amateur. Which explains why I am still adding to it. What if a child wants to use it for a paper? Thank you for the welcome message. Unfortunately my first experience of Wikipedia use has been disappointing (I've posted a Help Desk message about it). I successfully created (with the Wizard) a short article on "Hardy (hill)". Now it's nowhere - not on my account, not on Wikipedia, not on google - and there's nowhere "direct" to ask about what's happened. Has it not worked (if so, shouldn't I be told? - else if I try it again will the same thing happen?). If it's worked where is it, howe long must I wait before it appears (immediacy was promised!). If you have any idea how to improve the List_of_sirens_built_by_Alerting_Communicators_of_America article, please help out. Also, the article is intended to replace all the small (and not well developed) articles into one big article. Would it be easier to list them out on the main 'ACA' article, or keep this as a separate article? Feedback would be appreciated. Orphaned page follow-up
Hello,
You recently gave me some advice as to how to deorphan a page and I was reading that it would be possible to add the orphaned page to a 'see also' section. So for the BroadMap page, would it be possible to add it to that section for the GIS wiki page, for example, since we are a GIS company? Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Tried to play with the above idea by copying the rference to Engle Galleries. My original intention was to copy and then change the original content of the second refernce with the one refering to The Israeli Museum, Jerusalem But there are several parameters that in the copied reference that does not fit. So my idea failed.

I dare to write that you are missing the point of dealing with formative art. What you see and feel following what you see is the core of the experience and not what you read and think following it.
