Beamer103

I don't know how I didn't see this sooner. User:Honorboy123 is a sock of User:Beamer103 per this. I was talking to him like he was just a new user, and now I feel stupid. Eagles 24/7 (C) 02:50, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Hiya... there was a user in the unblock irc channel asking about being caught in the rangeblock. Unfortunately, I couldn't ascertain anything else from the block given the reason, and more problematically, talk page editing is disabled across the entire scope of the block (anyone in the verizon pool for new york city). Please help me understand the situation. --slakrtalk / 16:22, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Also, please consider using a more user-friendly block reason on such wide range blocks like this in the future (like {{Anonblock}})—especially if you're disabling talk page editing. --slakrtalk / 16:26, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Another admin

Don't know if you know MuZemike‎ but he's a pretty level-headed admin here on Wikipedia. He just became a Check-user tonight. ----moreno oso (talk) 03:29, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

That's good news in my book; I think he's one of the good ones. Antandrus (talk) 03:37, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
I've seen him take stuff from other editors and recently another admin who undeleted an article without consulting him. If it had been me in all cases, I would have been loaded for bear (err, human). MuZemike‎ didn't bat an eye and even went to DRV without so much as a protest or whimper. I think he's going to be a great checkuser. ----moreno oso (talk) 03:45, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Plus, we need admins who write articles like Ridge Route. Never knew you did that one until Ant pointed it out to me. ----moreno oso (talk) 02:11, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
It's true. Wikipedia has become rather compartmentalized since the early days -- it's a big city now, not a small town, and more and more people are specialists, as in a city. Most editors specialize in one thing -- fighting vandalism, AFDs, fighting spam, dealing with copyright, writing content in any of a thousand areas, adding categories -- and admins are just as specialized if not more so. Those who are genuine generalists, with the ability both to write and to swat trolls, are a minority, and of great value. Remember this next time you're feeling alone or unsupported -- you just may be appreciated more than you even know, and by more different kinds of editors than you realize. "HearFones" page entry, deleted 22AUG09

Hi. We've been trying for several years to create a page about the product known as "HearFones," but with little success. This evening, I tripped across the first indication why it may have been refused, indicating a "G12 unambiguous copyright infringement" and your contact information. Would you be able to explain in more detail? In no way have we intended copyright infringement, and would -- one way or another -- like to respond to people who ask why "Kleenex" is covered by Wikipedia but "HearFones" is not. Thanks! Nils Peter Mickelson (talk) 01:20, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your feedback, PMDrive1061. We'll work on that. The HearFones name has become so common now that it's become a generic term, which drove me to the Kleenex question. Nils Peter Mickelson (talk) 13:01, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

The deletion of Rapido3d page

so here we are 4 years since you deleted my entry for Rapido3d on wikipedia, and the pages I questioned the validity of are still there, I am interested to know why haven't you deleted them?

There seems to me to some sort of old boy network running here in the fact that you and 3 other people jumped on me from a great height for creating the Rapido3d page the day I created it and promptly deleted it, yet is seems because the companies listed below are bigger than you, you have totally ignored my requests to have either them deleted or mine restored, I have waited patiently for a reply from you for 4 years now do you think you could possibly grace me with a reply?

Seeing as you deleted my page before I had even finished it and the following pages have contained no more than a few paragraphs for over 4 years now your action/inaction must be questioned.

I have listed the pages I am questioning the validity of below just in case you can't find them.

Double negative http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_negative

Framestore http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Framestore

Moving Picture Company http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moving_Picture_Company

Please do not take the liberty of ignoring me for another 4 years the above pages are quite clearly adverts, if they are not deleted I will continue to post the page for Rapido3d in the same context.

Rapidlaser (talk) 03:40, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

(pardon for butting in) -- I took a stab at answering you on your talk page. PMDrive, it seems like it may be a notable company, I just provided him some links to our policies on reliable sources, verifiability, etc. A userspace draft may be the way to go for a start. Cheers, Antandrus (talk) 04:10, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Speaking of butting in

You may wish to get to know Rlevse. You may have noticed that I lit up Ant's talkpage because I noticed he visited yours. Rlevse is a pretty good admin and may have recently become a bureaucrat. I see him working mostly on the DYK page. In fact, you could take a page out of Ant's play book and write some articles. This bear is looking for DYK noms. ----moreno oso (talk) 08:31, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Bad redirect

I'm not sure this is the correct way to have handled the micro-stub at Bart Edwards. Edwards is not an Eastenders character, he is an actor. As such, his name is an unlikely search term to land on the Eastenders character list. (See WP:ASTONISH) WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:43, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

  • I've always been somewhat on the fence regarding single-sentence entries like that. To wit: The subject is worthy of inclusion, but there isn't much meat in the article. I figure that a redirect is a better choice than a too-short stub, but do feel free to revert me on this if you wish. PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:07, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
    • I'm not sure that this particular subject is worthy of inclusion. If all he's known for is playing a minor character in a British soap opera, that probably doesn't meet WP:ENTERTAINER or WP:GNG. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:16, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
      • Sounds good to me; I'll make them go bye-bye. Thanks! --PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:28, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of page Exit State

Good evening PMDrive 1061. For the last couple of months I have been researching and building a page for the fast rising British Rock Band Exit State.

Following recent successes primarily centered around Kerrang TV video airtime, a full and finite interview with the band has solidified many citations that I required to move the page into the live section. However, tonight I discovered that the page has been deleted by yourself previously. I am almost certain that the attempted creators of previous Exit State pages have been over zealous young fans and as such have no grasp of the concept of Wikipedia. I also have no doubt that deletion on these occasions was justified, however I would ask if you would be so kind as to help assist me in re-instating the page as I am very confident the page I have created meets all of the guidleines for page creation and as such the band is now growing in notability and will make a worhtwhile addition to the Wikipedia community.

The actual user page itself may be reviewed here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Pigrock/exitstate

I thank you for taking the time to read this message and I hope I will be able to secure your assitance in having the page re-instated so my hard work does not go to waste.

Many thanks my friend, I eagerly await your response Pigrock (talk) 22:00, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much really appreciate that :) Pigrock (talk) 00:32, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Hey dude really sorry to bother you again - I have attempted to start the article again however it informs me that it is locked by an admin. I am very new to this (its my first article) - should I now raise this in deletion review or is there something you may be able to do as an admin? Thanks mate Pigrock (talk) 07:57, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi, could you tell me why you speedy deleted Sarabauite? The stub that's there now looks fine. It appears to be the first submission by a new editor, perhaps it was a work in progress when you deleted it? Thanks. DuncanHill (talk) 22:54, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

How to report

Is there a way to report vandals besides this? It says there that I would have to give ample warnings and I don't feel like dialoquing with these people. Right now there's an IP trashing England in the Middle Ages. Slightsmile (talk) 00:10, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

  • This is a good way. :) Just drop a howdy to me or any other admin. Off to take care of the problem. Thanks for the alert! --PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:27, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Indeed. "AIV" can be irritating, with their officious insistence that all evildoers need to receive the right number of "warnings". Just find an admin you know and trust who is active and ask that person to help. If it's perfectly clear that a vandal is trying to do as much damage in a short time as possible, multiple warnings are silly and a waste of time; experienced admins just block them without delay and without fuss. Cheers, Antandrus (talk) 01:56, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Dan redlands wigwag.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Dan redlands wigwag.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 22:30, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

deleting our page - help needed

Hello,

Wondered igf you could help? I want to insert a page on the business woman Julie Meyer who is know for her appearances on the BBC's Dragon's Den programme. My friend and I are trying to do this but you deleted it whilst it was still under construction.

We wondered if you could tell us why as all of her peers on Dragon's Den have pages, yet hers needed to be removed?

We have a number of sources about her in publications such as The Daily Telegraph, City AM and BBC websites. Not sure if you are aware of these British media channels? We really want to work with you to create a good page. It would be great if you could take a look at the full article to let us know what is wrong.

Look forward to hearing from you, Notts214 (talk) 15:55, 20 September 2010 (UTC) Notts214

There's an IP doing multiple edits but it's hard to tell if he's vandalizing. For example, he put the name of a deceased swimmer as one of the actors in the movie so that's an indication. Slightsmile (talk) 00:24, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Fantage

Hi PMDrive1061, if you're not busy, could you please take a look at a draft article I've been working on? I understand that there were previous problems with the Fantage article being repeatedly re-created, so the area has been locked down. However, I believe that I now have a start-class article that would be worth trying. Right now it's at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Wendrew/Fantage. Al Lohman

Hey there! Hope all is well.

I'm a little confused and maybe you can guide me in the right direction.

User:Skier Dude has marked File:AlLohman.jpg for deletion, stating there is no rationale for non-free use?

When I uploaded the file initially 3 years ago, I had put that it was my personal contribution, as I was the editor of this newsletter and took the picture myself. Somehow this got changed to a "newspaper" - which our in-house newsletter certainly was not.

I left a message on Skier's page, but don't want to see this deleted. Advice?

Thanks! --Manway (talk) 00:10, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

How is it a "blatant hoax?"

You deleted Diane Story, a bio of a romance novel writer, as a blatant hoax. Amazon indicates that she is indeed a romance writer: [2], as does Google Book Search: [3]. Federline seems to be her relative per a website, [4], but you could well insist on more reliable sourcing. A "Fact" template for the Federline connection would be appropriate. This should have been a prod or an AFD for notability rather than a speedy as a hoax. Please undo your speedy deletion. Is there something blatantly hoaxalicious I am missing here? Thanks. User talk:64.203.7.201

Hi, could you evaluate this unblock request resulting from your range block? Thanks,  Sandstein  06:13, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

I see that the block in question is a one year block on 64.203.0.0/16. A range block for such a long period is an extreme action to take, with a great risk of collateral damage, especially on so large a range, so I suggest ending the block, which has already run for nearly 6 months. One more point: I see that you gave the reason for the block as "Block evasion: Bambifan sock", but the user name "Bambifan" is not registered, so that must have been a mistake. I don't suppose this much later you know what the true user name was? JamesBWatson (talk) 08:50, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
@James, Bambifan101 is a long term sock-master, see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Bambifan101 and Special:ListUsers/Bambifan. @PMDrive That said, I am seeing a lot of 1 year blocks on /16 ranges from you, which I don't always see as being particularly good blocks for the encyclopaedia. At times they do appear to be more a personal vendetta between you and Bambifan.. - Kingpin13 (talk) 09:05, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks to Kingpin13 for the clarification. I now remember I had come across Bambifan before, but had forgotten. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:24, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
No prob, James. It had gotten so out of hand that he actually stalked me across some other wiki projects back in August after a disgruntled, banned user started doing the same and I'd discussed it here at Wikipedia. The two literally caused the shutdown of an independent wiki I am part of. It's closed to new users and to anons as a result. His school has shut him down; the damage he'd done at Simple back in August was traceable and the IT and security departments were able to identify and discipline him. They agreed the damage was monumental. Even Jimbo was in touch with them. I just hope this has finally ended. PMDrive1061 (talk) 14:49, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

PS: I'd discussed the rather extreme rangeblocks at ANI some time ago. I would never have shut down the range unilaterally. I agree that it was an extreme measure, but the damage had gone on for years and wound up with the loss of at least one highly respected and prolific editor, User:AnmaFinotera. BTW, I'm going to unblock the range since Bambifan may have used it as a proxy and there really is some collateral damage I was unaware of. It's out of Carlsbad, California and Bambifan is in Mobile, Alabama. Thanks, all. PMDrive1061 (talk) 14:58, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

That is interesting. I had, as I said, come across Bambifan, and knew that it was an extremely troublesome editor, but I had no idea that the trouble was on such a major scale. JamesBWatson (talk) 07:58, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
I went through a waking nightmare for several weeks thanks to this kid. It was bad enough dealing with the disgruntled user across the other wikis; this boy's truly evil actions made it worse. I'd tried on three occasions to mentor him. He accepted all three times...and at the same time created sockpuppets with names meant to insult and degrade me and he continued the vandalism as well. Jimbo has been very supportive and is actively seeking ways to stop this once and for all. His LTA page will make you shake your head in wonder. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:23, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Explain suppression

Hi :-) Letting you know that today I suppressed an userpage that you created with a blocked user template because the username was potentially a BLP violation/defamation. I had already suppressed many logs and diffs related to this user earlier today. We will need to skip the block notices with this account. Any questions about it can be answered by contacting me by email. FloNight♥♥♥♥ 15:33, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi again, please take a look at the contributions of User:Ziggler101 at Bethune–Cookman University and Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida. They are similar to the ongoing vandalism such as here and here. Because you are already so familiar with this issue, I am going to you rather than a noticeboard. As always, your help is appreciated. Complaint about deletion

44392e666b79c4673d6dcaf7cf774927 (talk) 15:56, 11 October 2010 (UTC) Hello,

You deleted the page http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=La_Cumbre_Junior_High_School&action=edit&redlink=1

Please attach the deleted page to my account so I can work on it.

Also you didn't follow the proper procedures for deleting a page, I will overlook it this time but next time I will pursue the proper channels to see that you are in compliance when deleting pages.

This is the point that you missed when you deleted the page: "Only if the history is unsalvageably corrupted should it be deleted in its entirety; earlier versions without infringement should be retained." 44392e666b79c4673d6dcaf7cf774927 (talk) 17:46, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

The earlier version also looks like copyvio. Dougweller (talk) 16:23, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

No the earlier version had one sentence, so no way it could have been G12. 44392e666b79c4673d6dcaf7cf774927 (talk) 16:58, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Please re-read the following:

G12. Unambiguous copyright infringement. Text pages that contain copyrighted material with no credible assertion of public domain, fair use, or a free license, where there is no non-infringing content on the page worth saving. Only if the history is unsalvageably corrupted should it be deleted in its entirety; earlier versions without infringement should be retained. For equivocal cases (such as where there is a dubious assertion of permission, or where free-content edits overlie the infringement), please consult Wikipedia:Copyright violations.

Remember to check that the suspected source of the copyright violation is not itself a Wikipedia mirror, and to notify the page's creator when tagging a page for deletion under this criterion; the template {{nothanks-sd}} is available for this. For images and media, see the equivalent criterion in the "Files" section below, which has more specific instructions.

It looks like a copy of [5] and as copyvio, cannot be restored to your user space. Dougweller (talk) 16:01, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
Every version I see is a clear three-paragraph cut/paste copyright violation. Acroterion (talk) 17:08, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
  • Well since I don't have access to any of it I can't say for sure but I thought there was a first version that just had one sentence. You don't see that version? I spent at least an hour just putting the basic page together without any alleged copyright violation, are you all saying that you will not restore that either? 44392e666b79c4673d6dcaf7cf774927 (talk) 17:49, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
  • This is the second article that you've "written" by just filching someone else's prose wholesale. No, you didn't put together any pages without copyright violations. Both articles were copies of someone else's writing from their very first revisions onwards. No, we won't assist you in violating other people's copyrights and passing off other people's non-free content as your own free content work. Write in your own words, please, or we will take your editing privileges away for the protection of the project. You have been warned about this with every edit page that you've ever seen here. Uncle G (talk) 18:11, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
  • Well at least I have a clearer understanding of the stance on why this was deleted, but still I'm fairly certain there was an

initial copy of the page that contained no copyright violation. I think it's harsh and unpleasant and mean for you to delete the entire page. And obviously in this case it's a page about a school. It's not as if I am trying to plagiarize a novel. The information is public record. I also understand that there's a lot of abuse at wikipedia. But the road abuse runs both ways and I say that this is a case of abuse on the part of the deleter. And for this page I included a reference to the page. So how does one quote another page? Are quotes not allowed? 44392e666b79c4673d6dcaf7cf774927 (talk) 18:21, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

  • La Cumbre Junior High School only ever had one edit; the others are just "null edits" that resulted from the page move. Did you create a differently titled page on a different user account? Soap 18:37, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
  • I never created it as another user, no. I did do a move when I noticed that the url was very long, it contained the county and state. Is it possible that one has the original version? We are talking about a school web page here and level heads did not

prevail when deciding to delete this. And threats from others doesn't help the cause of administrators. In fact it's immature and Uncle G should be put on warning for making threats. I may actually insist that some form of punishment be given to any administrator that threatens anyone on wikipedia. The street goes both ways here. Administrators ask for users to be polite and respectful and users are entitled to the exact same. Since Uncle G doesn't see it this way I think their admin privileges should be revoked or suspended. 44392e666b79c4673d6dcaf7cf774927 (talk) 19:05, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

So you deny that much of the text was identical or nigh-identical to that of the website Dougweller presented? If the article was dissimilar to the contents of that site, then Uncle G would be a bit harsh, but Wikipedia does not tolerate copyright violations, even accidental ones. Just because infomation is publically available does not mean that it is free-text, any more than I can distribute public park land to my thanes. Ian.thomson (talk) 19:23, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
Uncle G and I are both administrators and can see the deleted versions and the deleted contributions of any editor (except those subject to Oversight). There was no one sentence version under that title. Insisting on punishment isn't going to go down well with anyone, and telling an editor that they will be blocked if they continue to violate our copyright policy is not a threat, it is simply a statement of cause and effect. Unless it is explicitly stated that the information is copyright free or has a licence that allows us to use it, we can't use it even if a few words are moved around. Dougweller (talk) 19:50, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
I figured as such, but I'm not sure how this guy doesn't accept that he did rip off the school's site. Ian.thomson (talk) 20:09, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
  • I'm certainly learning about the zeal of the admins here. I'm sure none of the admins have ever pirated software/music/movies. Apparently there is some motivation to beat people down when they are trying to find their way through this mess called wikipedia. Again it's a school page for wikipedia, I wanted to contain a quote from that site. Fine, a reference isn't enough.

But certainly quoting isn't against the law, right? I stand by my claim that deleting the entire page and giving me no option to re-edit is harsh and mean. If that's part of the charter of being an admin it's not very civil and it doesn't help promote wikipedia to newcomers. 44392e666b79c4673d6dcaf7cf774927 (talk) 20:36, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

How much did you quote? And how much of the overall article was non-quoted material? Also, did you take every step to ensure that the material was quoted from the website? Generally, anything beyond %10 quotes crosses the border from "quote" to "plagiarism," even if you're properly stating "According to this random author in this book... (page ##, publisher, year of publication, author's mother's maiden name, written approval from ABC and the NFL, etc)." It's not harsh and mean to demand originality, you have been caught in the wrong, and you're actually getting off lightly compared to the real world. If in a ten page paper, I had three words taken from my own other work without properly introducing the quote and providing all sourcing documentation, I'd be thrown out of the university. If, instead of three words, the majority of my paper was copied and pasted from another source, I could just forget about ever getting a college degree (... Unless I was on the football team ...Or rich). Ian.thomson (talk) 20:45, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

There _is_ a learning curve, true, but the bigger curve I find is people insisting on their misinterpretations of specific policies to pick a fight, which has been happening a lot over two articles I created recently. I didn't want to become all that familiar with the policies here (I prefer to be an occasional contributor as that's all I have time for - if this takes up too much time I would simply stop contributing), but I've had to because of all the misinformation I've been finding lately.. Thanks again. Tduk (talk) 04:52, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Griswold bayshore12.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Griswold bayshore12.jpg. Schwyz is back again

As User:TerraCognita, and questioning two of your deletions (look in the contribs). I don't know about you, but I'm totally finished with his bullshit now. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 20:27, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

I'm all for civility (I have the notice on my talkpage precisely so people know they have a safe zone; outside that I try to respect the norms here), but this was too much. In particular, there was one article that almost snuck through which was an unsourced attack on some bishop in Chicago (I'm no Christian, but I treat all articles equally on NPP). I barely noticed it between all the sub-stubs and looking them up in an atlas, and it would have been really bad if that had gotten through. Glad to be of assistance. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 23:25, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

I especially liked where he asked about the "legality" of deleting certain things. As if the Florida police are going to show up at the data center and arrest someone for unlawful deletion. What's the German word for "moron"? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 02:42, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

(ec)Funny you should say that... I was thinking of a ban myself. From pouring over the list of banned users looking for similar cases (I'm a history major, I always look for precedent), I found User:23prootie, which seems to have been the same general problem, although I can't compare cases because that was well before I joined. I'll be watching out on NPP to see if this happens again, and it seems someone created a tool to watch page moves, so hopefully that will throttle things down. But having someone so badly misconstrue both your words and mine was just too much for me; I'm all for a ban at this point. You think we should go for it? The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 02:50, 3 November 2010 (UTC) @Baseball Bugs- I don't know the German word, but the Japanese word is 度阿呆, or どあほ; the romaji would be doaho. I thought he would say that he'd report us to the cyberpolice, if you know what I mean.
He seems to be not particularly good with English, which could explain why he chose the term "legality" when he probably (AGF) meant "consistent with wikipedia rules". ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 06:24, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, probably, but he made it even worse for himself by making it sound like he was wikilawyering; given the way he misrepresented my words, I'd say he was trying the Chewbacca defense. The scary part is, it might have worked on some people, but I took a logic class in the spring and I know deliberate ignoratio elenchi (in Wiki-speak, IDIDNTHEARTHAT) when I see it. If this develops into a long-term thing, I've got the patience to deal with it, but I really hope it doesn't. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 13:21, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
He might actually believe there are laws (other than copyright) that regulate wikipedia content. The broader use of "legal", I can think of situations such as throwing a spitball, which is also "illegal" within the baseball rules, but it doesn't result in an arrest. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 15:24, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
True, although it can result in a conviction in the court of public opinion ;) The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 19:40, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
When I asked him a challenging question, his English improved dramatically. [And he implicitly answered the question. Beware of sleepers.] ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 20:53, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
And I just had to reblock the sock and deny him any more talk page access. He is STILL at it. This is the final straw. Also, it's important to read his last edit summary. This is just too much to endure for a damn nanostub which read "Tuma River is a river in Nicaragua." Listen up, Schwyz: That is a sentence and not even a complete one. It is not an article. Deal with it. PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:11, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Looks like Bugs caught that rather tacit admission in his above comment. You know, I just might do someresearchon the Tuma River and do a proper article on the thing myself. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:37, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

While you're at it, check out the user with the Tamil name who popped up out of nowhere on ANI. I'm more than a bit suspicious... I'll find some information on this Tuma River too. That's way out of my normal work, but there's nothing like trying something new. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 02:35, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Holy shit, this guy has more socks than a Hanes factory; look what's blown up on ANI now. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 21:38, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Re your post on my page; I'm all for a ban. Where the hell do people get the time to do stuff like this, and why do they always have to be on dynamic IP ranges? The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 05:53, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

I was just going to say, we've not only got something here, this dam was apparently the source of some controversy in 2007 between Ortega and the opposition parties. Would it have killed this guy to have done the 5 minutes of reading it took me to find this? The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 06:14, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
Agreed, this is fun!! Now we'll have to make sure it doesn't get moved to Tuma River (2) or some variation thereof. This was very different for me; the last article I did a lot of work on was Zoya Phan, which I've singlehandedly built out of a (well referenced) stub. That was several hours of research and reading; this time, the information was much easier to get. Now I know what people mean when they say content-building can be fun!!!! The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 06:36, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
I guess I'm lucky that I'm interested in Burmese history; there's still some room there. Zoya has two family members whose articles need a lot of work, and I need to work on the Myanmar Armed Forces article, which has some serious neutrality issues. But hell, I might just get into creating some stubs on towns, in order to keep our friend from getting there first; I'm sure there are some Karen villages that need articles. I'll keep my eye on Tuma River, though. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 06:45, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Yet another ANI discussion about Schwyz has popped up here; I'm not sure where it'll lead, but you may want to keep an eye on it. Turns out this may be worse than either of us thought; I've given a suggestion, but given that I joined in March there's not a whole lot I can do, so it'd be good if an experienced admin could comment. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:44, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

And now we've got a ban discussion going. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 05:50, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

If I could ask a quick favor of you; I came across a protected double redirect, Boycott Scotland, that needs to be redirected to Release of Abdelbaset al-Megrahi. I'd rather not make an announcement at AN over something this minor, so would you mind fixing that? The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 04:44, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

I still see it redirecting to Release of Abdelbaset Ali Mohamed Al Megrahi, which itself is a redirect to Release of Abdelbaset al-Megrahi; I'll have to purge my browser cache and see if that's what's causing it. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:55, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of Scroogle

I was trying to do research on why scroogle wasn't returning results, and, hoping there might be a section on its now frequent difficulties, discovered that it had been deleted. I can't find a third nomination in the archives, but the deletion log says that you deleted it in April of this year. On top of that, there were two deletions, but the first AfD was Keep. I resigned (for the most part) in protest of the deletion conflict, so I've been away for a long time. Could you clear this up for me? Tealwisp (talk) 00:49, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Good question. I checked the deletion log and the last version was a poorly written little nanostub. I'm guessing that my reason for deleting the article was the fact it had been a previously deleted subject per an AfD discussion. Strange nomination; it looks like a perfectly valid article and subject in its older forms. PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:04, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

I was reviewing the discussions, and it was deleted the last time on account of voting, rather than consensus. Aside from that caveat, I did a quick search through some other engines for news, and though I couldn't find any info on its current state, I did see a number of articles about the scraper, though I haven't checked them all for reliability. Can you restore the article, should I contact the admin who deleted it before, or should I start a deletion review? I've been away for a long, long time, and I don't remember how to navigate the less common red tape. Tealwisp (talk) 05:44, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Another good question. I have to err on the side of caution and suggest a request for undeletion/deletion review. I don't think I can act unilaterally on this one. Good luck and keep me posted if I can be of any help. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 14:52, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Before I do that, could you give me the list of references so I can make sure I'm not just repeating them when I make aa case? Tealwisp (talk) 08:17, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the subpage. Should be a big help. Tealwisp (talk) 23:29, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the offer. I use Twinkle already, so I haven't any need of rollback rights, though I've been gone so long that I didn't know the pending changes process had been implemented, or even that it was being considered. Is there a list of pending changes for Reviewers to check, like there is for the Recent Changes Patrol? If there is, I'll assume the responsibilities of a reviewer. Your openness and cooperation has given me the optimism to come back to the project, and reviewing pending changes sounds like a way to contribute as more than just a bureaucrat. It reminds me of my days surfing the recent changes. If you want to wait a little while before giving me the user rights, that's fine, since I've been away for quite some time. Dear PMDrive1061, can you offer any concrete advice as to how Suzan Bushnaq might be improved to allow retention? Best wishes (Msrasnw (talk) 11:53, 14 November 2010 (UTC))

Many thanks for the kind comment on my talkpage. I think it is 7 to 4 for deletes at present in the Afd stats (with you among the deletes) - and although I know Afd is not a vote..... Thank you, you were very diligent in realizing your error so quickly. No apology necessary, scared me there for a minute. I thought that since I write about businesses a lot, I was thought of as an agent of the businesses. As for my article one dudesnude why was it so speedily deleted? I contested the deletion since it was well sourced with quality citations but I never got any talk back on the talk page. Was it deleted because I was blocked? In any case shouldn't it be AfD'd instead of speedy? I believe the topic is quite notable, it is a very popular website and there are similar articles on other websites such as manhunt.net and adam4adam. In fact I created it because if you check the what link's here these sites were listed on another article but dudes did not have an article.Hemanetwork (talk) 02:48, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Too-short articles

Wikipedia:CSD#A3 does not apply to the articles I created.

A quick step back, first, at least on this issue. I know interactions on Wikipedia can be involved and things can turn into a battle. I don't doubt you realize that (and maybe even think about it quite a bit?). There's no hostility meant in this message.

In the future, please link to some context for future recipients of your messages so it's easier to track down the articles and the rationale used for deletion. As you probably know, deleted articles are expunged from user contribution history. FWIW, deleting these articles only makes it more difficult when I go back to add categories, infoboxes, and interlanguage links, but then I see they have to be recreated (and the URLs culled from my browser history, rather than my user contributions page).

Thanks for leaving me the message though. I appreciate it. And thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. Really. -- C. A. Russell (talk) 02:15, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

But the probability is not zero and this smaller percentage can be proven if right links are provided. It actually depends on the country the person is from and what the education system is followed there. • It's worth noting that the source cited really doesn't define a concept by this name. It coins and uses a nonce word, and puts it in quotation marks to make this clear. (It doesn't even coin it properly. To be analogous to "supernova" the plural would be "unnovae".) The evidence from the handy little tool ⇗ is rather damning too. I just wanted to know why you deleted my page about Junk Be Gone Inc? I had no intentions of advertising the company. I guess I could take it myself to make sure it gets accepted. But then again, I think the whole project needs to be rethought. I've been pondering on this for a while now, and it seems that we're not getting action from anyone. Sure, some may reply that they'll do something, but in the end the vandalism continues. I guess it's simply too unrealistic for schools to fight Wikipedia vandalism. So if I was to contact the school about this, what would they do? >_> Netalarmtalk 03:05, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

I got some great response when I took a serious issue directly to a school district regarding a stubborn, long-term vandal. This is your gentle reminder that CSD for "no context" and "no content" isn't appropriate if the "empty" article was created only moments ago, per the CSD policy. Books LLC

Greetings PMDrive 1061! Apologies for possible punctuations oddities in advance, but my German keyboard has suddenly decided to change itself into English format, and I can|t find the dratted apostrophe!

I just tried uploading a new article on a dubious publishing company called Books LLC of Memphis, and have been informed you yanked it down on the grounds of unambiguous copyright violation. This surprises me as I|d been writing it myself this afternoon.

What this company is doing is flooding Amazon and other book platforms with offers of fifteen dollar paperbacks composed entirely of content ripped off from Wiki. I thought it|d be a good idea to mention the fact.

Thanks for your comments, Uncle G. As it happens, I started by looking for information about a publishing company I'd never heard of. I wasn't looking for some kind of warning. It was a matter of wanting information. I came across one of those pages you mention, but learning that what might be that company is perhaps a mirror and fork isn't overly intelligible, unless you already know what that's supposed to mean. And as the article was rejected on the grounds of unambiguous copyright violation, it's difficult to see the immediate relevance. There's no copyright violation involved. I also didn't write a warning. If people want to pay somebody for Wikipedia content, minus the graphics, then that's their business.

Many thanks for your considerate reconsideration, PMDrive 1061! — Preceding unsigned comment added by KTDykes (talkcontribs) 2010-12-05 12:01:19

I believe I can answer that for you. That article fell afoul of several of our content policies. Your original version of it violated our policy on neutrality as it read like an advertisement for the school. Generally, primary or elementary schools are not considered sufficiently notable for their own Wikipedia articles, and no reliable, independent sources were provided. So, unless this is one exceptionally remarkable school that has been the subject of significant attention from multiple sources it is not going to be an appropriate subject for a Wikipedia article. Our core policies can be viewed here. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:38, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of Random Hacks of Kindness

RHOK is a real event; please see [6]. I'm curious what caused you to think it was a hoax? I don't know how to see the history of the page now that it has been deleted, so I don't know what it contained prior to deletion. Could you restore it please? Ka-Ping Yee (talk) 22:13, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Also please verify the existence of this event via this summary which is clearly from a reliable source. Well, I guess it depends on what you think about the Moon landings. =) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.50.78.130 (talk) 00:08, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Looking at the deleted page, I could see how it would appear to be yet another hacker hoax as it seems unlikely all these organizations would really participate in such an event, but if it is a hoax they've taken in an awful lot of people, as a gnews search shows[7]. I think the page should be unprotected and allowed to be recreated if properly sourced, maybe someone would care to make a properly sourced user subpage in order to demonstrate that it is possible to make a proper article on this subject? Beeblebrox (talk) 00:58, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

People, seriously. I admire your attention to detail... but here's photographic proof that we had the event. And that was at only ONE of the 21 venues. I mean, #RHoK was trending in (at least) two cities over the weekend. Check the Twitter activity in Toronto and worldwide.

Please just put the page back up - I'm (obviously) new to editing Wikipedia pages, but it says everywhere that deleted content is not lost, so we would prefer to not have to rewrite the Wikipedia page in a sandbox when we're expecting national attention as people roll into work tomorrow due to the many media outlets who may do a story on RHoK. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.50.78.130 (talk) 01:27, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Sympathy given, but still trouted

I totally understand why you, and others, thought the RHoK article was a hoax. Many of the editors with an interest in the article do not yet understand the basics of creating new articles on wikipedia. Only now are some relevant references coming to light. So you have my sympathy in the matter, but still:

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

  • New biographies without sources are not acceptable at Wikipedia. If you are going to write any biography, you must cite sources from which your content can be verified. If you are going to write a biography of a person close to you, such as you yourself, then you must be even more scrupulous. If you cannot present high quality sources when writing about a person close to you, and stick scrupulously to what the sources say, then do not write. Shaolin Kempo Karate

I see the history on the Shaolin Kempo Karate page, and I don't understand why it keeps getting deleted. It is a martial arts system that is more widely practiced than Kung Fu in the United States and there are hundreds of dojos and sub-sections of the art that are practiced. It is also unique from American Kenpo in that it is far more complex and incorporates animal forms. It was founded as a proprietary form by Fred Villari, but it continues to evolve and grow. Currently, there are several thousand nationwide practitioners, and it is a completely valid system like Okinawan Karate, Shotokan Karate, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wing Chun, etc...

I would like to work on the page, and let the wikipedia community contribute knowledge - as there are some secrets that would be really great to flesh out.

Please let there be a Shaolin Kempo Karate page. It is an art, not a business. The business is called "Villari's Martial Arts Studios" and/or "Villari's Self Defense Centers."Kurtsayin (talk) 19:06, 10 December 2010 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kurtsayin (talkcontribs) 18:29, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

I was looking into Shaolin Kempo Karate because of interest in possibly taking a class or two. It is the system taught by what appears to be a large chain of martial arts studios. I wanted to know a little about it's background, how it is viewed in the martical arts community, etc. Of course, I turned to Wikipedia as a potential source of hopefully objective information, only to find what appears to be a systematic deletion of any reference to it. So basically Wikipedia has no info on one of the most widely taught martial arts systems in the US. The reasons for deletion include references to the page not indicating the importance of the topic. Given the number of people being taught this form of martial arts, I would think it's importance was self evident. You might as well ask what is the imprtance of the rock band Uria Heap, or the TV series She Wolf of London, both of which are arguably more obscure than (and therefore of less importance than) Shaolin Kempo Karate and I can find pages on in Wikipedia. This I find completly un-credible as a reason for deletion. This does not give me a lot of faith that Wikipedia is an objective source of info, becayse as well intentioned as your deletion may have been in makes it look like Wikipdeia is being manipulated by those who don't want Shaolin Kempo Karate mentioned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.60.85.223 (talk) 21:00, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The reason for that would be that the martial arts proclivities of the inhabitants don't have anything to do with the physical location. We don't talk about what kinds of church services occur in Notre Dame Cathedral beyond saying that it's a Catholic church; similarly, the Shaolin Monastery is primarily about the physical location. Now, if you feel that it's relevant, be bold and add it in; I'll go over and work with you on it as well, as I'm very interested in East Asian history. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 22:37, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes, but there is certainly a page on Catholicism and Zen Buddhism, and that is really the point. SKK is a unique system just like Tae Kwon Do or Krav Magga, Kali, Wushu, Okinawan Karate or whatever are unique systems. There should be a page for the system, and I'm working on one that will hopefully be put up publicly so people can add info and sources. Kurtsayin (talk) 17:36, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

@PMDrive1061: I've worked on the SKK page on my own time for a few days and cited an industry magazine, a book on the history of Kempo, Fred Villari's own book, as well as a couple of internet sources that are themselves martial arts organizations online. I was not able to verify the belt ranking system by any written document - I was however able to verify it through my Sensei who is a 5th degree black belt in the system and trained under Grandmaster Villari who created Shaolin Kempo Karate, so he is certainly a relevant authority on the matter, but I don't know how best to cite something of that sort... Can you check the article and potentially clear it for public view?Kurtsayin (talk) 18:07, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Great Big Bowl of Porridge

I'm not quite sure why that caused such outrage. I moved a very large section from this article which several editors had flagged as massively POV and completely unsubstantiated. Because no one wanted it kept but people wanted it discussed but it was too large for the Talk page, I moved it out of the article temporarily and gave it a name so unlikely that no casual Wiki reader would stumble across it by accident. It's not supposed to be an article, it's material which is under review by other editors. We can give it a name which will fool people into thinking it's a proper article if you like, but I don't think that's a good idea. I see that you have now completely deleted all the material, which is precisely what those of us who were going to be discussing it and seeing if we could rescue any of the text for the article did not want to happen. Please don't take the axe to other people's material and delete it irrevocably without any consultation whatsoever, and without stopping to think a little and ask exactly what is going on. You have now cost us a lot of time and effort.--Taiwan boi (talk) 16:29, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Could you please clarify what was wrong with the article so I can fix it and get it back up?

Thanks in advance.

0rganic

Hi PMDrive 1061 (new section)

I am new to Wikipedia, and have just had my first article deleated I believe in contravention of rule/code CSD A7, that aapears to be in relation to making a reference to domain name www.0rganic.com. I have tried to rectify this with a subsequent entry, with the heading and content in regards to alphanumeric example 0rganic, which ahas also been deleted. It appears from the attached message I am being accused of vandalism which I have taken offence to. As you are aware your T&C are quite extensive and it aapears thst I am not alone in falling foul of this minefield. Could you please explain clearly why you have deleated my subsequent entry, when I am only trying to comply with your site. I must say this appears to have the odour of "big brother" and his cousin "corporate intrest" manipulating an innocent entry, this has not been a pleasant experiance.

Yours faithfully

Sir 0rganicSir 0rganic (talk) 20:01, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
I have checked this, and your objections are without merit. The original article was blatant promotion, the re-creation clearly fell within the bounds of A7, and I do not see where anyone has accused you of vandalism. Your utterly baseless paranoid accusations of a corporate conspiracy being behind these deletions are equally without merit. Plenty of corporate shills try to spam their advertising material onto Wikipedia and find their articles deleted, and in many cases their accounts blocked altogether. Please try to assume the good faith of your fellow editors in the future, and familiarize yourself with our core policies, including verification of all content with reliable sources, and communicating in a civil fashion with others. J. Samuel Walker

I don't generally set up stubs but it seems like we need one for J. Samuel Walker who is IMHO emphasized too much in the Hiroshima debate article. But gosh golly you could see that it was so recently minted that perhaps you might have given consideration that it was in process before deleting it. I would be willing to shove this important writer's wikipedia article off onto the side while bringing it up to standard. But I have difficulty accepting the A7 speedy deletion criteria: does not state the importance of the person whom the article refers? The stub had its defects but it should be readily apparent that someone who wrote the first definitive or comprehensive report on Three Mile Island is of signifigance.

Obviously you are very deeply involved with wikipedia. The Walker article stub was really just my idea of a favor to the original writer of the Hiroshima article who is deeply mired in criticism. But now that you have blasted the text away, do you think it is fair that I am required to now re-research the txt that I did take the time to put up?

That is ridiculous, in my opinion. You are adept at biography pages and obviously the stub does not meet your standard. But the A7 rational is hollow. The importance of J. Samuel Walker is obvious. Please if you are going to ham handedly delete and speed delete without warning or discusion state a logical reason even if to say the article is too sketchy.

How am I supposed to recover the text? Or have you decided that J. Samuel Walker is not sufficiently important or interesting to warrant the article? What gives with this matter - I feel burned and disinclined to trust this process. Wikidgood (talk) 01:11, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

  • Answered on your talk page. Problem solved.  :) PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:15, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

The subject is a highly respected writer who does deserve more than this stub. But unfortunately we are shutting down for the holiday break so the page won't be getting the attention it deserves as rapidly as I might hope. We are closing the building in a few minutes but tommorow I may have time to buff this stub up a bit. I don't mind having it incubate offline but just did not want a lot of rewriting and regoogling. It is not so easy to get the biographical information as it is to get the author's history. But this whole job is just a side distraction because I was working on trying to straighten out the mess that is the Hiroshima debate and wanted to do a square for the poor highly criticized editor who set up that page and has paid dearly for his good intentions. Anyway, alls well that ends well - the world deserves to know more of by and from J Samuel Walker. Wikidgood (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:21, 22 December 2010 (UTC).

I dont know why you deleted the page:Incandescence NIT Silchar, there was nothin promotional about this page according to me.it is a college festival, a purely cultural and technical event with no advertising intentions at all that is held in my college(NIT Silchar) which is immensely popular in North Eastern India. Please sir i d humbly request you to point out what exactly you found offensive on tha page as soon as possible to a new wikipedia user like me.

Deletion of American Journal of Trial Advocacy

Hello! Must be honest and I am new to creating a wiki page, and am unsure as to why this page was deleted. I am in the process of creating it for a legal journal at my law school that I am a member of. I am adding more to the page over the next 10 days (my personal deadline for completion). I just realized I didn't cite yet, so perhaps that is what I need to do? Any guidance is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Chabad of Boca Raton

Why did you take my new article down? — Preceding unsigned comment added by A.E.Moeller (talkcontribs) 16:21, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

I see now that you say A7

A7. No indication of importance (individuals, animals, organizations, web content).

An article about a real person, individual animal(s), organization (e.g. band, club, company, etc., except schools), or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from verifiability and reliability of sources, and is a lower standard than notability. This criterion applies only to articles about web content and to articles about people, organizations, and individual animals themselves, not to articles about their books, albums, software, or other creative works. This criterion does not apply to species of animals, only to individual animal(s). The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source or does not qualify on Wikipedia's notability guidelines.[4] The criterion does apply if the claim of significance or importance given is not credible. If the claim's credibility is unclear, you can improve the article yourself, propose deletion, or list the article at articles for deletion.

But this is not true. Chabad of Boca Raton is a major synagogue. It was at the center of an important legal/public controversies over public displays of religious symbols. I cited a book that devotes a chapter to this synagogue and several articles form major newspapers. I was going to add a lot more, but they you took the article down for a reason that is untrue. Please put the article back up.

Thank you. this is a very confusing process.

Thank you again. Can you direct me to the insturctions for making picutres appear on a page? I seem to have the wrong code, or something.

What to do to create my company page on Wikipedia

Hi there,

I would like to contribute a company page for wikipedia. I do not work for this company, it is not for advertising or promotion. Simply putting the page out there so that if anyone is searching for it they could find some info on it using wikipedia here.

So, I don't know what it takes to place a NEW page for the company here.

Please, just give me specific answers on what I need to know, I have been given so many rabbit hole links that I don't know what in fact is the solution to my problem.

All I want to do is submit a page and have it posted on wikipedia. Why is it getting deleted each time?!

Hi

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate means of communication on wikipedia, but I wanted to let you know that the 2nd version of the article I submitted was only citing national media sources. I do not understand why this is considered promotional. I have been using their nonprofit service as a mentor and felt like I could return the favor by creating a wikipedia article.

Below, is the 2nd article version I submitted. Can you please point to what needs to be corrected?

StudentMentor.org is a nonprofit organization that matches college students seeking career or academic advice with professionals in the United States. According to CNN, “StudentMentor is the first national online mentoring matchmaking service designed to pair up college students who have questions with experienced businesspeople who have answers.” [1].

The service is free to any college student, from any school or major. Mentors are comprised of professionals, job seekers, retirees, or upper classmen. According to USA Today, “Prospective mentors and mentees can join for free on StudentMentor’s web site and are matched according to their areas of common interest."[2]. Then, mentorships take place either in-person or virtually. StudentMentor.org checks with the pair to see how the mentorship is progressing.

StudentMentor.org was founded in 2010 by Ashkon Jafari and Stephanie Bravo. According to a USA Today interview with Jafari, "The mentoring organization was launched because while students in grades K-12 have plenty of programs to find mentors, college students often don't have anyone to guide them. "We know there is a huge need out there. Many students don't have access to professionals, or they go to schools where it's harder to get connections, for example, with someone working on Wall Street. This is a way to find out how to get yourself on that path, if that's what you want."[3]

Page deletion: Maja Jantar

Thank you for your expedient and diligent work to keep Wikipedia a solid information source. A few moments ago, I posted an article on Maja Jantar. This article was deleted moments after it was posted due to copyright violation. I am surprised by this, since I am not only the co-author of Maja's wikipedia entry but also one of her collaborators with my own active Wikipedia page (Angela Rawlings). Is there a possibility to have Maja's biography reinstated on Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Commutiny (talkcontribs) 19:44, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Copyright re: Maja Jantar's page?

Thanks for your quick reply! I hope you don't mind that I seek a little further clarification. I understand that a sample of this text would appear on other websites when Googled. This is because Maja and I developed this text together, and it is currently used as the primary biographic information available online. All instances where it occurs is as a copyleft text. Wikipedia is the most far-reaching source of encyclopedic information, and as such I should think and hope that it would be in the website's interest to include up-to-date information about artists, even if there are replications of this information available elsewhere online (replications that, I might reiterate, are copyleft as assigned and distributed by the authors of this material). My intention by placing Maja's biography here is to begin a primary online source through Wikipedia that I may keep updated and develop. I hope you'll forgive my confusion in needing to state again "in my own words" something I have already written "in my own words." Of course, if that is the only way to satisfy inclusion, I will rearrange the syntax, replace some of the diction, and include other examples from Maja's career. I look forward to your response. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Commutiny (talkcontribs) 20:08, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)If by "job" you mean checking for copyright violations and other problems with Wikipedia, anyone can do that, and you are more than welcome to do so yourself. We can always use more new page patrollers. If you mean being able to delete things, block other users, etc, that is a function of administrators, users who are selected by the community and granted access to tools that facilitate these advanced functions. There's no money involved. Wikipedia has hundreds of thousands of users, several thousand admins, about thirty bureaucrats, and an arbitration committee, all volunteers. The Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit entity that supports and co-ordinates all of this, does so with less than fifty paid employees. It's really quite amazing when you think about it. El Patrón

You protected this page from creation and a version has now been created at El Patrón (album). Given that the album has been released and appears to have charted I don't think the G4 applies. The move has been started as a requested move but as it's totally uncontroversial I'm asking for it to be unprotected and then moved. As a slight aside is it normal to indefinitely protect an article like this from creation. I'd have thought protection until it's release or shortly after would make more sense as things often change drastically then and it's a general principle that protection should be for as short as required. Malthouse Engineering

Hi PMDrive1061

I believe you have just deleted my entry about Malthouse Engineering for being copyrighted material. I work for malthouse engineering and we own the copyright of the copy and we are happy for it to go on to wikipedia.

I have read the guidelines for entering content onto wikipedia and im keen to point out that this is not an advert for the company, its our history. Malthouse have played a significant role in the development of Oldbury and the local community and we have had a significant impact on a number of other communities through our charitable and community work and this is detailed in our history.

We are keen to preserve what we have done and have sent a number of copies of our history to local libraries and schools. However paper based books are easily outdated, lost, binned which is why we have come to wikipedia to digitalise our history so it can be prolonged.

Is it possible for the Malthouse Engineering page to be reetered on to wikipedia please?

thanks for getting back to me.

It sounds like i need to re-write the content to include references from third parties and make it less "we are amazing" and more neutral which shouldnt be an issue.

however i wanted to check a few things.

1. along with third party references can we reference our own site which may have more information about something for example if i mention a community project on wikipedia could i like to our site which would have more info?

2. is there a rule about the range of other sources used for example the majority of the references would come from our trade association and one or two others is this a wide enough range?

3. is it possible to check an article meets the wikipedia criteria before i put it on wikiepedia as i got this message

This is your last warning; the next time you create an inappropriate page, you may be blocked from editing without further notice

and i dont want to risk being blocked from editing because ive mistakenly done something.

thanks

The Festival of Sleep Day

Hi PMDrive1061,

I noticed that the page I created on The Festival of Sleep Day was deleted (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Festival_of_Sleep_Day) and categorized under a hoax. This is not a hoax or a made up holiday so I was wondering why it was deleted? I have taken an interest in unique holidays and noticed there was no page on the Festival of Sleep Day, so I chose to add one and am surprised that it was deleted. I included references that discuss this holiday, and there are many people on social media outlets who celebrate Jan. 3. If you could reconsider the deletion of this page, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

deletion of cartel wars setups?

I recently made a article titled "cartel wars setups" but it was deleted. It might have seemed random and pointless but to the people who take part in cartel wars that was a very helpful and informative post. each player has a different amount of "inventory slots" that need to be filled with those setups. But the setups have to be very carefully put together because if you do it wrong you can wind up with negative bonus points. So...it would be really great to have that article up again

Page deletion

I wrote an article on Varié Magazine its a new magazine in chicago, il and it was deleted. Why is that? How do I get it reposted? Boatloadyoyo (talk) 05:35, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
