Blocked FrescoBot edit

I have blocked your user:FrescoBot because it saves results when no substantial changes are made to an article - its most edits look like changing a white space. This does spam page history and watchlists. Please amend. Materialscientist (talk) 03:48, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I do understand the bot was approved and is doing useful job, but. Is it possible to modify it to not save the changes if it is only one-two whitespace(s)? Materialscientist (talk) 07:26, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Unblocked. A note, extraneous spaces are not a big problem, but spacing errors which break templates are a problem. Materialscientist (talk) 08:12, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Basilicofresco, please keep doing these changes until we empty the backlog in CHECKWIKI. The kind if spacing fixed by your bot is useful. You should run it more often than just once per month. I am tired fixing this stuff manually every day. We probably have to find more CHECKWIKI errors that your bot can fix at the same time. Thanks, Magioladitis (talk) 17:01, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bot is breaking things edit

Please fix this. People are having to clean up after this bot. --Ancheta Wis (talk) 19:13, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ancheta, thanks, but in our case (the Scientific method wiki), it was okay, and it's just as well that I stop half-embedding "pp." - maybe it could lead to unexpected problems in the future as well. Also it led me to find a previously broken link. I'm getting rid of the half-embeddings of "pp." in all the articles in which I've used them. The Tetrast (talk) 21:05, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, please do. I haven't yet determined what the bot is supposed to achieve, but it inexplicably inserted a bunch of text into the Fencing article [1], which I just plain reverted. Thanks and, er, good luck with whatever it is you're doing. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 19:51, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

[Re: your messages on my Talk]: Okay, will keep my eye out (as fencers often do...). GL! — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 20:25, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

pp. - no problem edit

Also posted at my talk page. The Tetrast (talk) 20:52, 27 February 2010 (UTC).Reply

I'm the operator of FrescoBot. I included the exception in order to avoid the pp separation. However the half-linked pp is pretty strange... is it correct? -- Basilicofresco (msg) 20:26, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
I don't know whether it's correct. It was just a nicety, which helped make it a bit clearer that there was a link (especially to readers who have image-downloading turned off, as I sometimes do), especially when the linked page's number itself is a solitary little digit. Since periodic sweeps by bot users are to expected, I decided to put both "p"s outside the link - keep it simple not just for me but for one and all. And you've already gone ahead and incorporated an exception! Well, we're both accommodating. Best bet is that I'm the only person who would be so hair-splitting as to embed half a "pp." in a link, so I'd recommend dis-incorporating the exception. But thank you for the thoughtfulness of incorporating it.
Alternately, I could put "pp." entirely inside the link, but I found that unappealing from a logical standpoint, since it's a link to just one page. But maybe I could do it anyway when the page number is a single digit. Well, whatever. Meanwhile, I've already made the requisite alterations in the Charles Sanders Peirce bibliography article (which had a whole lot of such cases half-embedded "pp."s). I'll get to the other Peirce articles, where there may be cases here and there, but you don't need to wait for me if they're on your itinerary. Incidentally, thanks to your edits I found a link that was already broken, probably because of my own earlier bad editing. Not the first time that somebody's edits have helpfully revealed a pre-existent problem to me. The Tetrast (talk) 20:51, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bot breaking things again edit

In List of Nintendo Entertainment System games article bot changed reference in table to title of the game, I undid it. Please check the change that bot made in history. Robixen (talk) 14:57, 28 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, as you can see, the "reference" was actually a fake external link to the article The Addams Family: Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt. There is no need to mask a wikilink as an external link. I replaced the wrong link with http://gamefaqs.com/console/snes/home/563505.html. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 15:21, 28 February 2010 (UTC):Reply

I get it now. But you replaced the wrong link with snes one instead of nes one. I fixed it. Robixen (talk) 17:52, 28 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

thanks edit

I'm new to wikipedia. Thanks for fixing my link in the tutor page. Ahnie (talk) 19:39, 28 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

"Fixing" links to put the quotes outside the link brackets edit

I know it's one of this bot's approved functions, but I do not appreciate having links revised such as in this edit. Do you know of a MOS section, or another guideline, that calls for links to be written this way? (It's entirely possible there is such a guideline that I've never been made aware of, but I couldn't find anything about it in a quick look at the MOS.) I have also asked (and explained my objections further) at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style#Quotation marks when linking to titles. Propaniac (talk) 14:18, 1 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bot request Sherman Minton and Frank Murphy and James Clark McReynolds edit

Would you please work your magic on Sherman Minton and Frank Murphy and James Clark McReynolds. Those Supreme Court justices, along with a bunch of others, could use the help. Breaking
The first case, they in general want to make those normal links point to their own personal articles on giant squids and Wikisource. The second case it makes no sense to point the link to their own mirrored article which probably doesn't exist; it's a reference to Wikisource directly, and should remain so no matter what context it is in. SnowFire (talk) 23:37, 9 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I see... it makes sense. I will try to modify the script in order to account for this exception. Thank you. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 23:50, 9 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Links to wikisources edit

Please do not unlink helpful links to wikisource, as you did here. Your edit summary - "links syntax" - was also not correct. Thanks! Awadewit (talk) 21:58, 11 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

It was not unlinked. Is in your opinion "On Fanny Godwin" better than "On Fanny Godwin"? -- Basilicofresco (msg) 23:14, 11 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I apologize - it looks like I was a bit too hasty there. The difference is not material to me. Awadewit (talk) 03:27, 12 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

FrescoBot adding WildBot templates edit

FrescoBot seems to be adding "WildBot, please look at this" templates to a large number of articles. While this has only resulted in discussion ([2], [3]) for physics-related articles, it's caused a complaint [4] from one of the biology project people, including a shutdown of WildBot as an interim measure.

Long story short, please don't mass-call WildBot without discussion and approval from the WikiProjects in question, as this is causing disruption in at least one case. --Christopher Thomas (talk) 19:26, 17 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Agreed with Christopher Thomas. ... Kenosis (talk) 19:30, 17 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Agree. I haven't familiarised myself with the workings of these two bots, but at first glance, it's getting really annoying. -M.Nelson (talk) 23:15, 17 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I was not aware of the problem. Thank you for pointing it out. I immediately switch off the WildBot tag. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 23:29, 17 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. This might still be useful functionality, but it's worth discussing with the WikiProjects involved first (perhaps some kind of opt-in scheme for the feature would be best?). --Christopher Thomas (talk) 00:16, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Opt-in scheme sounds a good idea in order to reduce the "watchlist spamming". However if the real problem is the size and/or position of the WildBot box in the talk page, I believe we have in the first place to fix this issue. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 00:58, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the heads-up at my page. Of course I could be wrong about any of this, but . . . Yes Basilicofresco, the watchlist issue is negligible to inconsequential-- plenty of bots do their work and it's a normal part of getting that work done to see it played out on the watchlist. The primary problem is the talk page interference. It's unlike an inline template, but rather interferes in the business of maintaining talk pages wiki-wide. Frankly, I don't think the BAG fully contemplated the implications of the last line of the most recent FrescoBot permissions request, i.e. that the end result of the two bots operating together would essentially turn WildBot from an opt-in situation to a mandatory wiki-wide function of placing templates on talk pages in the valuable page maintenance space at the top, where we set the broad context and define issues for countless busy talk pages. Possible solutioins are: turning WildBot's function into that of positioning a new talk thread rather than a template at the top, or at an absolute minimum placing any new templates below the existing templates. Also, a lot of the DAB templates placed by WildBot in response to the FrescoBot mass-requests are useless-- sometimes editors are content to link to a DAB, depending on the context of the wikilink. But I vaguely doubt this situation was fully contemplated when BAG granted the permission on this one. It would be nice to resolve it informally. Thanks for attending to these issues. ... Kenosis (talk) 02:19, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Josh Parris seems to have it covered now, as can be seen in User_talk:Josh_Parris#WildBot_template_clutter. Josh's proposed solution was to move the maintenance templates to below the existing templates used to set the fundamental page context on many of the busier talk pages. ... Clara in Blunderland edit

Please explain what your bot is complaining about. -- Evertype· 00:46, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I checked and it was a false positive. The partial italic section names (like section Humpty Dumpty#In Through the Looking Glass) are not easy to recognize. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 00:56, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

WildBot/tag in namespace 4 and 5 edit

Could I ask that FrescoBot doesn't use WildBot/tag in Wikipedia: or Wikipedia talk: ? WildBot isn't authorized to run over those namespaces and I don't think it would be a good idea to do so. Thanks! Josh Parris 06:29, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Josh! Only 2 pages in ns5 were (assisted) edited. I manually fixed the broken links and removed these tags. I will avoid this ns in future. Are ns6, ns10, ns14 ok? -- Basilicofresco (msg) 10:35, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

ISBN splits question. edit

One of the changes that Frescobot made to List of Alpha Phi Omega members was changing ISBN 0313265933 to ISBN ISBN 0-313-26593-3 . Can you let me know where the logic is for the split between the 313 with 26593 is? (to know that it shouldn't split 3132-6593 for example). I know that there are lists available, I'm just curious how it is coded.Naraht (talk) 13:10, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Here you will find what you are looking for. Cheers! -- Basilicofresco (msg) 17:49, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Doesn't appear that it has much information on Group identifiers other than 0 and 1 (so your tool can't figure out the hyphens on non-english works), but my bet is that 90%+ of the books referenced on the English Language wikipedias are group 0 or 1. Does the Hyphenation on the 13 digit numbers work exactly the same way after the 978 is sliced off? So ISBN 9780313265938 (guessed at the check digit which turned out to be right) would become ISBN 978-0-313-26593-8 and does your tool do that splitting as well?Naraht (talk) 19:02, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the link. It looks like the .py includes enough information to hyphenate just about everything. I noticed from a link in .py script that 979 does have one range assigned to it, I didn't know that. Thank you *very* much for the information!Naraht (talk) 17:12, 19 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

WildBot (again) edit

Please do not let your bot tag talk pages for WildBot. It's entirely unhelpful. Rklawton (talk) 14:18, 20 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, in the Josh talk page I asked what I had to do and it seems to be positive consensus about tagging (after WildBot box placing rewriting). -- Basilicofresco (msg) 06:55, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Maybe it's the wording. Do the talk page messages from wildbot refer to the article or the talk page? If it's the talk page, then it's useless. If it's the article, then that's helpful. The wording, on the tag, though, should be more clear about what it's doing. Rklawton (talk) 14:36, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
It refers to the article. I will tell Josh Parris your suggestion. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 15:41, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

One bot tagging to call another bot edit

 • I'm not really sure why we have one bot tagging to call another bot. Won't WildBot find the broken link eventually anyway? Alternatively, why doesn't FrescoBot just leave a note about the broken tags, rather than calling another bot to leave a note about the broken tags? Seems inefficient at best. –xenotalk 14:05, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
This appears to offer us the advantage of having four edits appear on out Watchlists rather than just one or two. Perhaps there are other benefits unknown to me; this one is the only one I've seen so far. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 14:47, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
There are strong technical reasons for this behaviour. FrescoBot was wrote to find and fix some types of misspelled links. Josh asked me to mark any article FrescoBot was not able to fix, but there are some false positives (FrescoBot was not made for this). It means I cannot place a detailed box as WildBot does. There are things FrescoBot is not able to do and viceversa about WildBot. Please note that rewiting and testing would take days... So: yes there is a reason. However it does not mean we cannot reduce the number of edits per error. For example I could write locally a list of these articles in need of inspection and pass them to Josh. What do you think? -- Basilicofresco (msg) 15:41, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
This would reduce the impact to peoples' watchlists. Even putting it somewhere in the FrescoBot or WildBot userspace would be better. –xenotalk 15:43, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Please note you can disable bot edits in your watchlist... however I'll redesign WildBot calling as soon as possible. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 15:51, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm actually just speaking as devil's advocate here. –xenotalk 15:52, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

FrescoBot breaking template switch edit

FrescoBot just edited Template:Infobox UK place/police like this and potentially broke a #switch statement. It seems that the regex is catching a broader range of links than you probably intended. I`m confused the page already existed on en.wikipedia.org created by me in 2006 at some point someone uploaded it to commons.wikimedia.org and on the 14 April I added a Category:Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre realised that the image was of the railway and not specific to the Heritage centre so removed the Category. So what did I do wrong to cause the flag blanking page? Regards --palmiped | Talk 17:59, 18 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

FrescoBot is conflicting with WildBot edit

Please see the history of this book, beginning with this edit. I followed the directions given by WildBot and corrected them in this edit, and FrescoBot came along afterward in this edit and reverted what I'd done. Now WildBot is complaining about it again. Re: Isang Lakas Page... edit

FYI, Darna, Captain Barbell, Dyesebel is Licensed By Individuals ok but, when you add it as a group the rival network "must" asked the rival network (GMA 7) to add them & for approval because for example Captain Barbell, GMA 7 will do a remake to the previous version of richard gutirrez which he will reprise also... "until" all are finished, the rival network (GMA 7) will make an assessment of doing an group or by two's for the said superheroes, if the network decides that they will not continue then the rival network (ABS-CBN 2) can add them make a superhero group, thats the reason why the kapamilya network can't released the showing of the show and other problems of the other characters because of schedules, and other things like production Staff... ok? Please, im asking for refraining to add them until approved by the rival station/network... thanks & godspeed.

Bot error - image map edit

Hi, your bot made some good changes but ultimately damaged Revision history of Template:The Tribuna of the Uffizi beyond repair. I undid it, but thought you might like to see what happened. Victuallers (talk) 07:18, 26 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

The imagemap was not recognized because it was included without <imagemap></imagemap> tags... I will improve the script in order to avoid this problem. Thanks a lot for reporting! -- Basilicofresco (msg) 09:40, 26 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks ... I have quite a few image maps in same style. Will it be obvious how to modify the others? other possibility is to check templates are in category "image maps" ... i will have a look when you resolved the issue Victuallers (talk) 14:27, 26 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, the main problem was that I was not aware of this exotic alternative syntax for imagemaps: now the bot is able to detect it. The second and least important problem was the mistake it attempted to fix: the wrong commas at the end of the links. I performed a check and Template:The Tribuna of the Uffizi was the only page on en.wikipedia affected by this rare problem. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 16:05, 26 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bad edits edit

Hi, FrescoBot continually makes edits such as this.

Basically, the reference tag is written as:

 •

However, FrescoBot wrongly tries to fix the (unbroken) section link by changing it to this:

 •

As a result, the link to the reference in the bibliography in broken (note the "ref = Cherif (2007)" parameter):

 •

This is not the first time FrescoBot has done this. I have reverted similar edits at least ten times before on other articles, so something really must be done about it. Thank you. OSX (talkcontributions) 14:58, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

WMAQ Former on air talent list edit

Hello BaSilicofresco

I was wondering if I could get your opinion in my favor. On the WMAQ former personalites, editors keep deleting all the names posted and I don't feel it is right. You had made some adjustments to the industry jargon on that page and I respected and agreed with your decision. I was wondering if you could write a statement in favor of the 98.223.95.42 edits posted on the village link on the discussion page. The person took a lot of time and effort into the list. We just need a few more in our favor and the edits will be reverted back to the way it should. Or if you just want to revert it back yourself. You are now a Reviewer edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 05:08, 20 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Useful edit

Was this such a useful edit for a bot? Debresser (talk) 18:53, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

It is actually a byproduct of the section fixing script. I chose to not discard it because it makes a cleaner and more consistent wikitext. Moreover the suggested syntax (Wikipedia:Piped link) does not contain any extra whitespace. Anyway, if you really feel it is not an improvement of the article, I can drop it. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 22:02, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I agree it is an improvement. But it should not be the only edit of a bot. Our botpolicy doesn't think bots should be making such trivial edits. It's not worth the edit. Debresser (talk) 22:49, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ok, no problem. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 23:20, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Punctuation edit

I don't think a bot should be making edits like this. How does the bot know whether or not the punctuation is part of the originally quoted material? It didn't even change the link syntax or spacing at all, although that's what the edit summary claims! --R'n'B (call me Russ) 20:00, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, first of all consider it moves the punctuation only in when it founds a wikilink like "Missouri Compromise." It's not a regular quote, it's a quoted wikilink followed by a punctuation: if punctuation belong to the "quote" then it should be within the wikilink. If punctuation does not belong to the quote then it should be outside "". About the edit summary you're right. However this correction is part of a pretty large group of corrections about the "way" links are inserted: syntax, position, spacing, redundancy. Grouping them together I'm able to perform the least possible number of edits, however I have to use a less specific edit summary. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 22:41, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yep, that's the exact same rule I was just going to mention, which is why I just reverted the bot's latest edit to List of X-Men members. DeadpoolRP (talk) 16:03, 3 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
See WP:LQ; your bot was doing it correctly for the most part. The only place I'm aware that xxxx." is the only acceptable form is the United States. The only problem is distinguishing an article that's written in American English from all the rest. Radiopathy •talk• 19:39, 4 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
That so-called "rule no. 1" in grammarbook.com, cited by Robomanx above, is completely wrong, at least in British and International English (except in the special case of newspaper writing, and Wikipedia is not a newspaper). The change your bot made in the first place was in fact correct. -- Alarics (talk) 12:08, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, just wondering why you made this edit [7]. The link would be better going to the league table. Regards.Eldumpo (talk) 19:30, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi! As you can see there is no "Fourth Division2" section in 1976–77 Football League. It was a mistake so the bot changed 1976-77 in 1976-77. In order to link the second "Fourth Division" section you had to write instead 1976–77 Football League#Fourth Division 2 (note the space). Basilicofresco (msg) 13:42, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

FrescoBot misplacing punctuation again edit

I have the same objection as User talk:Basilicofresco#"Fixing" links to put the quotes outside the link brackets above.

Concerning the FrescoBot Edit at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Joseph_Henrich&diff=372444273&oldid=370332291, the "fix" goes from:

(A): Faculty profile, to
(B): Faculty profile,

IMO moving the comma to after the bracket, like (B) (with the comma after the "blank" square signalling the end of the external link) resembles the non-standard punctuation of a footnote number coming before the punctuation, like:

(C): [8], not like:
(D): ,[9]

But standard practice is for the footnote to come after punctuation, like (D). So, (B) from the Bot is deviating farther from standard practice as to footnote-like placement. For that reason, I urge discontinuing use of the Bot at least until the problem is fixed. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 23:33, 11 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I see, however we have to take into account three important facts:
 1. The comma does not belong to the link;
 2. it is an external link, not a footnote;
 3. footnotes are different because the whole link is after the punctuation, here the punctuation was in the middle of the link.
Basilicofresco (msg) 14:11, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Regrettably, I overstated my point for the example above. The same Bot did not move punctuation of "Selected publications" outside the ext. link rectangle-icon (& properly so from my argument above), on which see Joseph Henrich#Selected publications.
Please allow me to make a milder point as applicable to Ext. links sections. Putting the comma before the rectangle-icon that signals an ext. link allows the reader to see the comma right after the word preceding -- normal practice. That's what the reader expects. Having the ext. link icon rectangle come right after the word introduces an unnecessary break before the comma. If the reader clicks the rectangle-icon, it is similar to a fn. link in the text: the reader ends up at the link, just as clicking the fn. number in the text takes the reader to the fn. So, there is a welcome parellism between the icon and the fn. number. And there is arguably no reason to treat them differently. Thanks for your response above. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 16:05, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Changes to links at List of Baroque composers edit

A substantial number of links on this page to other wikis have been altered by FrescoBot and I'm not sure the result is desirable.

Next to redlink entries in this list I had deliberately added links to other wikis in external link format in order to produce compact, autonumbered references, for example:

Now changed to:

I could reformat to footnotes or something, but think the original style suited the context better. Would a revert be contrary to Wikipedia style? Is there some other solution? I would welcome your advice before going further. (RT) (talk) 10:47, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Now similarly applied to List of Classical era composers‎ too. (RT) (talk) 14:06, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I see. Well usually interwiki links should looks like interwiki links and as you can see at Wikipedia:Interlanguage links#Inline interlanguage links the same apply also to interlanguage links. I'm not sure what is the best style for these pages, but in my opinion something like...
...does not look bad. Anyway, maybe you can post your question here. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 15:25, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Frescobot changes a link in the wrong way when running on the "Bounded variation" entry edit

Hello, I am writing you just to say that when applied to the entry Bounded variation, Frescobot changes a correct link i.e. <math>L^1(\Omega)</math> norm to a wrong one <math>L^1(\Omega)</math> norm. It has operated this change two times, as you can see from the history of the entry, but the first time I did not gave importance to it, so only reverted its edit. Now I have slightly changed the link (<math>L^1(\Omega)</math> norm is the new form) hoping that the problem disappears, and I also decided to tell you the story. I hope you'll be able to patch it. Best regards Daniele.tampieri (talk) 21:04, 30 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

 • Il 31 Agosto vedo Francisco;
 • Dieci giorni a ridere e a scherzare;

 • Bonty, numero uno e grande collaboratore del progetto guerra, spero continui così;
 • Dr Zimbu, primo amministratore conosciuto, poche chiacchiere e molti fatti;
 • Roberto Mura, sempre calmo e paziente, grande fan di astronomia, e grande costruttore di portali;
 • Franz Liszt, grandissimo utente, pezzo di pane veramente. l'unica cosa che mi ha dispiaciuto è che non mi ha assolutamente difeso negli UP, per questo mi sono dispiaciuto;
 • Riotforlife, evvero, mi voleva infinitare, ma lui nasconde una grande persona. E' lui che mi ha fatto scoprire il progetto guerra;
 • Pigr8, anche lui bravo, coordinatore del progetto guerra, ma nonostante le numerose traduzione non mi ha assegnato neanche una barnstar;
 • Zayats, sembrerebbe un gran pelandrone nel non correggermi le traduzioni, ma una cosa che mi ha fatto innervosire che ha avuto una barnstar neanche era registrato;
 • Gnumarcoo, mi ha sempre incitato anche su irc, e accettato i suoi consigli, e mi ha sempre risollevato il morale;
 • Vituzzu, (o Vito) grande fiuto per i sp;

Dr Claudio segnali radio 19:31, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Attention please
Hi! As you can see in the page history I was not involved in the development of the page Uttara Kannada district. My only contribution was just a small correction as FrescoBot, an automated bot. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 17:49, 23 October 2010 (CET)

Your bot is making unnecessary edits edit

It just unnecessarily edited the C shell article to "fix" links to return code. If it's not working properly, maybe you shouldn't run it against pages you don't personally read and check. Msnicki (talk) 08:15, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) Hmm, I would think someone so educated about programming would provide a more precise description of the problem. I for one, can't see what the complaint here is.
If you mean that FrescoBot converted return code to return code, then I don't see what the issue is; I would make that change manually when I saw it myself. But maybe it did something else, and I just can't see it. In which case, Basilicofresco might not see it either, unless you provide better clues. What exactly is the problem? Respectfully, — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 09:54, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well, IMHO it was not unnecessary (useless piping is forbidden, the fix is part of the Check Wiki project, the source text is more readable and errors are spotted easier). Anyway I wonder how much useful do you consider "reverting an unnecessary edit". ;) -- Basilicofresco (msg) 11:40, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
You got it backwards. The unnecessary edit changed return code to return code. I undid it and now he's redone it again! This isn't even an article Basilicofresco even contributes to. Why is his 'bot' running around scribbling on work other people are trying to do? It makes no sense and makes even less sense that when his bot's stupid change has been reverted that he'll go back to insist restoring it again. I have just undone it once more. Do it again and he'll have an edit war you will not not win. Keep your fingers off an article someone's working on unless you have something meaningful to contribute, please. Right now, you're just posting graphitti. Please stop. Msnicki (talk) 15:03, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Are you serious, or just rather confused?
 • The article (which is open for editing by anybody) "began" here, with return code in two places.
 • Then the bot came, and changed the piped links to return code. The change was meant to be helpful, and had to go through an approval process before it did it.
 • Then you changed it back to return code, calling the previous revision an "idiot bot edit". Before doing so, you stormed in here to suggest that the bot is defective.
 • The bot operator then read your complaint, adjusted the formatting of my interjection, studied the situation, and manually repeated the change FrescoBot had made, presumably because he saw it as a helpful change.
 • You then reverted again, but not before posting here to threaten an edit war and inappropriately claim ownership of the article.
I recommend you reserve your bluster and threats until you're sure you've got the sequence of edits correct. Then, if you're really sure you are right about what links the article should have, you should ... still keep the threats to yourself. But I assume you're just confused, so take another look (and a few deep breaths). — JohnFromPinckney (talk)

I apologize. I totally misread the edit. I had written that section originally and, certainly, when I wrote it, it was not my intent to have that superfluous text in the link. I probably just screwed up as I went through checking that every link mapped to an actual page. So I saw what I expected to see and I went off half-cocked. Please accept my apology. This is not the behavior I like to see in me. I will restore the change the bot suggested, which I agree (and should have immediately agreed) was correct. Msnicki (talk) 16:50, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that's what I figured. It just didn't make sense, and while it might have been great fun to belittle and insult you, there's always the chance that I'm the one who's missing something. And boy, I hate when that happens, after I've gone to great efforts to correct somebody else. Not, uh, not that that's ever happened to me, of course. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 20:35, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

FrescoBot making edits contrary to Wiki Bot policy edit

Hi, I continuously find edits like this [16], which simply change links into links, a change which seems completely useless and has no implications for templates or other things.
I read in Wikipedia:Bot_policy#Cosmetic_changes that "Cosmetic changes should only be applied when there is a substantial change to make at the same time."
So I ask you: is it correct that your Bot make such edits, overcrowding page histories? --GianniG46 (talk) 23:52, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I understand this one is borderline, however there was a discussion and the task was specifically approved. It is a one-time run in order to cleanup a bit. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 05:50, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nevertheless, you see there is a contrast to be resolved between the discussion you refer to and the official Wikipedia Bot policy. --GianniG46 (talk) 10:56, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Although I support your minor fix task, even though it is arguably cosmetic most of the time, some recent edits seem to fall outside that. I am pretty sure changes like these are not approved by any of your BRFAs. Regards. — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 21:35, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, they are missing spaces between words and they actually change the aspect of the page. The second one was approved in Wikipedia:Bots/Requests_for_approval/FrescoBot_2:
 • linksomething --> link something = linksomething--> link something
The first one is similar, however you are right, I forgot to ask the approval for it. I will avoid edits where this fix is the only fix applied. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 23:18, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Adding a space between a comma and a word being the only change to the page? As I said, I'm not against even small general fixes, but this seemed excessive. FrescoBot issue edit

I have noticed several edits like [17] on my watchlist lately. That particular change to piped links is not actually a syntax issue (and does not appear to be covered by the FrescoBot BRFA). There's no need to make just that change to an article; it just litters watchlists without changing the appearance of the article at all. I realize this edit fixes a self-link as well, but I have seen edits recently that only changed the piped links, like [18] — Carl (CBM · talk) 01:13, 24 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, it is actually covered by Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/FrescoBot 7 and it was specifically requested to me. Before BRFA, I asked for comments about this proposal and there was no objections. However this is the second complain about the "cosmeticness" of this replacement and I could reconsider it... -- Basilicofresco (msg) 08:39, 24 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I hope you will. This morning I have several more on my watchlist, like [19]. I don't object if you do then when you are also fixing some actually broken link (the things in the original BRFA) but some things in BRFA 7 are not actually problems that warrant fixing on their own. There has been more attention lately to the issue of automated edits that just reformat the code in some way without actually changing the article. — Carl (CBM · talk) 11:41, 24 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
As soon as we reduce the current backlog on that and we finish another task to create redirects of plurals (another bot/editor is running that already), the complains will redce since the number of these edits will reduce drastically. -- Magioladitis (talk) 04:43, 31 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fixing something that didn't need fixing edit

This edit summary seems misleading [20]. The link was working fine, the change appears to have changed nothing except bypass an existing redirect which as we all know is not supposed to be the only edit made to a page.--Crossmr (talk) 23:34, 26 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, the matter is a bit more complex: the link was working, but it was not fine. As you can see, there was a section wikilink to "Game misconduct#Match penalty", but Game misconduct is a redirect and points to a different section: Penalty (ice hockey)#Game misconduct penalty. This conflict is undesirable and has to be fixed. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 20:47, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I checked, but I don't see any new comma. As you can see, there was a comma within the wikilink and FrescoBot moved it out. Am I missing something? -- Basilicofresco (msg) 20:47, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sorry about that, I must have been on a cut & paste binge when I made those cats and didn't see that I did have the comma in there! Best, Markvs88 (talk) 20:58, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wikilinks edit

Can you please train your bot to ignore wikilinks? dif Thank you. -- WikHead (talk) 05:33, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I checked and there was nothing wrong with the bot edit. There was a link like this [21] and the best option is to convert it into a wikilink and then put into a note. If reflist is missing, someone will soon add it. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 05:56, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the prompt reply. I guess the point I was trying to make, is that wikilinks should not be used as references. If they were trimmed back to wiki-markup style links without being nested within a ref tag, that would be perfect. -- WikHead (talk) 06:06, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well the problem with the conversion of a link like "[22]" at the end of the sentence (looking like a reference, used as reference) is that I cannot replace it with a simple wikilink because then I would "insert" an extraneous word between two sentences. The bot is not able to judge the usefulness of a reference, so it has to preserve them. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 08:28, 31 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Fully understood. It is too bad however, that some edits (such as the example I've provided above) still require some sort of human involvement after the fact. From my own experience, I feel that most of the time when wikilinks are added in full URL form, they are done so mainly by inexperienced contributors who haven't yet mastered the art of wiki-markup when casually cross-linking between articles. The few that I see who intentionally reference to other wiki-articles are usually not aware that such referencing is considered invaluable to the project, and usually stop doing it once someone brings it to their attention. On the other hand, I assume that some may think it's perfectly acceptable to keep doing it if that's what they see the bots doing (newbie see/newbie do). Don't get me wrong though, as I do have a great appreciation for all the good your bot does, and it's not my intention to complain as much as it is to throw fresh ideas and a bit of POV your way. Perhaps this is something that you could keep in the back of your mind, and maybe try to work into the routine sometime in the future if/when you ever see an opportunity or convenient way to do so. Thanks for your time, and happy botting. -- WikHead (talk) 15:15, 31 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fixes to WP:LDR edit

Hello,

Please note that merging all the LDR citations together into an unmanageable blob really does not help us editors at all; quite the contrary. I'm referring to this edit. Per WP:LDR:

Any blank lines placed between the citations in a reflist will make no difference to the download size or output format of an article. Thus, for ease of editing and article maintenance, it can be helpful to separate the citations using a blank line between each cite.

If you could manage to modify the bot so that it avoids unnecessarily contracting the LDR's in this manner, it would be appreciated. Thank you.—RJH (talk) 19:59, 19 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

link syntax edit

FrescoBot did one of its usual edits to Kilogram, like this one, where it converted meter per second squared to meter per second squared on the premise that the latter points to a redirect page that, in turn, takes the reader to the correct page. Unfortunately, anytime there is a redirect, this wording is at the top of the page: “(Redirected from Meter per second squared)”. I think this is unnecessary, ugly, and looks like an error was made (a link that wasn’t updated after an article was moved) that had to be corrected.

I’m sure there was some discussion (now perhaps located in Village Pump Archive 6,626,208) where coders and programers and developers who are interested in ultra-tight code that fully exploits the behind-the-scenes capabilities of Wikipedia’s server engines—as well as those interested in saving the Wikimedia foundation 0.000000001¢ of server space—who have discussed the subject of links and redirects and think this aspect of FrescoBot is cool-beans. But I wasn’t part of that discussion. I occasionally receive reactions from long-timers who write something like (*sigh*) This was discussed [by all of six editors who hang out endlessly] at the Pump and the consensus [by four of the six of us] was that this was an indisputably Good Idea©™® and you should think the same way. I’m sure there are scores, if not hundreds, of other editors who don’t even know of the venues where bot operators hang out, have never heard of Village Pump, and don’t like links being un-piped in a fashion that makes the target page a re-direct.

In my view, redirects pages are primarily of value to fix old links made before an article was moved (renamed), and for common misspellings manually typed into the Search field by readers. I don’t think it looks at all good for a reader to click a link and be taken to a page that has “(Redirected from…)” at the top; it looks like an error was made.

I’m not requesting that you revise the way FrescoBot operates. I would, however, appreciate it if you can advise if there is a {no-bot} tag or magic word or something that will prevent FrescoBot from working its magic on the Kilogram article. Failing that, is there a convenient, built-in facility that allows you to just tell FrescoBot to avoid Kilogram? 16:51, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Well, I wish to help you... but I'm not sure to understand what is the problem. FrescoBot changed for example meter per second squared in meter per second squared because, as you can read here, this kind of piped link is discuraged by Wikipedia's guidelines. Most of all, please note that both links point the very same page (eg. meter per second squared vs. meter per second squared). -- Basilicofresco (msg) 17:47, 22 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
The guideline doesn’t address this situation. The stated purpose at WP:Piped link is as follows: It is generally not good practice to pipe links simply to avoid redirects. The number of links to a redirect page can be a useful gauge of when it would be helpful to spin off a subtopic of an article into its own page. (my underlining)

The underlined objective (determining when a subtopic needs to be made) isn’t an issue here since it is a spelling-related issue and there is already a redirect page. I just don’t know how I could have better explained my concern in my above post. As I wrote there, I understand the reader is taken to the same article. As I also wrote, This wording is at the top of the page: “(Redirected from Meter per second squared)”. I think this is unnecessary, ugly, and looks like an error was made (a link that wasn’t updated after an article was moved) that had to be corrected. Is there a way to keep FrescoBot from wading into Kilogram? Greg L (talk) 18:07, 22 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

FrescoBot did not make any edit in order to improve (or avoid) the use of redirects. Are you able to read a page history? Nevertheless there is nothing wrong or shameful with redirects and remember that you should not "fix" links to redirects that are not broken. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 19:50, 22 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Now, don’t start getting emotional and squirt out sideways with BOLD exclamations and combative tone such as “Are you able to read…” This is a collaborative writing environment and I was using nothing other than calm plain-speak above and don’t look forward to having to deal with an editor who challenges whether I have the ability to read a page history.

Yes, I can read history files. And I did, too, in this case. FrescoBot certainly did too make an edit that I am talking about. It is this one, which I had provided in my first post here. As you can see, the accompanying edit summary is “(Bot: links syntax)”. And the result was to create this link: meter per second squared, which—if you click on it—takes one to the correct page but with a redirect notice at the top, which looks poor and sloppy in my opinion. It is not how I want articles I work on to operate.

I see from the provided link that one “should not "fix" links to redirects that are not broken”. It further states that doing so “can actually be detrimental”. Just how in the world is piping a link so that A) an article consistently uses one dialect, which WP:MOS recommends, and B) to avoid a redirect statement across the top, “detrimental” in any way, shape, or form?? In fact, there is zero—zip—harm in piping; the properly piped link avoids having what amounts to an error adviso placed at the top and nothing else.

Now, please try to keep a cool head with your answer. Also, you might also flat answer a question I’ve now asked twice and am here asking for a third time: Is there a tag or magic word I can place in the article to keep your bot from operating there or is there a way you can program your bot to avoid the Kilogram article? Greg L (talk) 23:09, 22 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

So please read the history: are you able to explain why in the 16 January revision of the page, before the FrescoBot edit, the link was already linking the same page? Nevertheless "meter" is just a common alternative spelling and not a mistake: there is no shame in a redirection. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 01:57, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well, now we’re going in circles. That’s going to end. All the information you need is in the article’s history file. “Metre” is indeed another spelling, but not in American-dialect English. When I last left it, the article was in this state of affairs and had things correct and consistent; the article was written consistently in one English dialect (*sound of audience gasp*) and all links routed the reader to articles with no redirects (*sound of audience gasp*). That’s good, tidy practice and is what all authors should strive for. Things got screwed up because an I.P. editor (from Canada: go figure) came in and changed things to a mix of American and British dialect (meter to metre, ∆ edit here) in a series of six edits. Then User:Martinv misinterpreted what was going on, changed things some more, and then undid his edits. Now…

The first major contributor to that article consistently used American English and, per WP:MOS, the use of a particular dialect should be consistent.

Yes, I know there is “no shame” in redirection. Nothing I wrote above suggests that’s my concern, yet you’ve mentioned that twice now, which comes across at minimum as patronizing, and at worst as baiting with a “Well, there’s no shame and I’m gonna keep doing whatever I want to.” My above posts could not possibly be clearer that I think redirects look like sloppy work—simply because that’s precisely what causes redirects in many cases. We actually have specialist editors who run about creating redirects for common misspellings. It speaks to the shortcomings of working in a collaborative writing environment where 6th graders get to join in. Contrary to WP:Redirects, there is absolutely nothing “detrimental” to piping links to achieve dialect consistency and to ensure the reader is taken straight to the proper article; nothing at all. I asked you to point out a downside to the practice and you declined to answer or were unable to.

I’ve asked you politely now three times about whether there is a no-bot tag I could put in the article to ward off your bot and you’ve ducked the question three times. I am loathe to ask you again since you seem to actually relish conflict—partly borne from not reading, parsing, and fully understanding what others write. So why not just put the Kilogram article on your “avoid” list so we don’t have to cross paths again? Wikipedia is a big place and I’m sure you can find plenty of things to improve without going to a fully mature article where all the ‘i’s have been dotted and all the ‘T’s crossed just so we can start pissing in each other’s corn flakes. Greg L (talk) 03:28, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I simply do not understand how a no-bot marker in Kilogram could help you in your anti-sloppiness campaign. It would not prevent ip or users from change metre in meter. FrescoBot did not change the target of any link, it simply clean the syntax in order to better spot linking errors... so it should help you too. Preventing bots from edit an important article for no reason is a very bad idea. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 11:27, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

 • I would have had an issue had your bot changed meter per second squared to metre per second squared, but that was not apparently the case. The change is no more, no less, one of the general fixes of AWB. The change is totally neutral as I do not see that either the underlying link or the displayed text were changed in any way, but does simplify the display in edit mode. OTOH, one might query a change frommeter per second squared to meter per second squared, as it appears Greg is doing – hypothetical here, I know. Although Greg may consider it sloppy, I see this would be a legitimate and rather appropriate use of redirect to deal with national varieties of English. During my gnoming, I often have cause to change spelling variants. And it does not upset me not to see the piping changed, knowing that the target link would still lead to where it was desired. On balance, I think that eliminating the pipe (i.e. relying on a 'sloppy' redirect) is preferable as it reduces screen clutter in edit mode. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 03:41, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Frescobot and Commons categories edit

The bot is adding these boxes to several Michigan highway articles. Two issues are at work here. One is that many of these categories hold single photos. Two is that if all of the photos are already in the article, the category was intentionally not added to the article. I've only ever added the boxes when there are more images for that subject than what the article can hold. Such automated editing though has brought to my attention all of the articles who have categories that don't need them, so I can have the categories deleted on Commons. Imzadi 1979 08:38, 1 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

In my humble opinion there is nothing wrong with placing Commons cat when there are no additional images on Commons. First of all the number of (well categorized) images on Commons is going to grow, secondly the link can be useful to editors in order to 1)spot new pictures, 2)easily find the correct category where upload new contents, 3)help Commons users to process uncategorized images. I would keep both the category and the template. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 12:49, 1 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
your "humble opinion" is a apparently a single person's opinion. It does not reflect the consensus opinion of multiple editors. Your 'bot just modified an article on my watchlist to add a commons category that contains only the two pictures that are already in the article. I do not agree that your addition enhances the article. If the Commons category ever does get new images, then perhaps the link may enhance the article, but until this happens, the link detracts from the article. Your secondary goal of "alerting editors that new images are available" would be better served by having your 'bot place a notification on the article's talk page. So far, nobody except you appears to support your position, so consensus is against you. Please stop your 'bot until this has been discused. -Arch dude (talk) 02:26, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
As you can see in the Bot owners' noticeboard, consensus is not clear (I mean there is no consensus even about your opinion). Your suggestion about user notifications (every contributor?) about new pictures on Commons is not practical and would be a mess. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 07:01, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I made no suggestion that you modify user talk pages. I suggested that you modifu article talk pages. I recognize that there in no consensus for my opinion, but I'm not the one who is running a 'bot the modifies articles: you are. Therefore it is incumbent upon you to seek and gain consensus, not me. -Arch dude (talk) 15:18, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Just a quick note. Could the BOT use Commons category rather than Commons cat which is a redirect to the former. It is correct in the edit summary. Just saves having two edits to each article when AWB and others that go round replacing Commons cat get to the article. Thanks Keith D (talk) 13:07, 1 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Done! -- Basilicofresco (msg) 18:43, 1 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

The bot also seems to be linking to Commons categories that don't actually have anything in them, which seems rather pointless (e.g. [23]) Modest Genius talk 19:28, 1 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Well, in this case the problem is not with the bot, but with the empty category that has should be deleted. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 23:08, 1 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors edit

Hi Basil! Since you've been identified as an Awesome Wikipedian, I wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.

If that sounds like you and you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors during the current term, which started in January and goes through early May. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 17:41, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for calling you a 'bot edit

I'm very sorry for over-reacting like that. I just saw the new link and assumed that it was the 'bot. I think the "inline" link is a much better idea, and I will not remove it. Incidentally, I am not wandering around removing your links indiscriminately, I just happen to have been working on this article. -Arch dude (talk) 18:07, 7 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

The bot changed a link to a reference edit

Section link fix actually breaking things edit

Edits by the bot like this actually break the link. The reference in the Works cited section is using "Hyde" as the tag, not "hyde", so when your bot has gone through and changed it to all lower case, the link in the References section no longer works to the full reference in the Works cited section. Imzadi 1979 22:34, 18 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

The problem was with different refs with the same name (one capitalized / one uncapitalized). It is quite confusing and it is in general not a good idea. I fixed the article. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 10:15, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Except that there aren't different refs. There's only one footnote to the Hyde book (for which you just renamed in the and therefore the footnote looked like this "[32]", pretty obscure
 2. FrescoBot converted the link to the standard interwiki syntax: and the footnote became "s:Author:Paul George Konody" (please note that here you are able to see with the s: that the link points Wikisource)
 3. Then you removed the footnote and replaced it with: "(so described at the page of wikisource for Paul_George_Konody)".
I'm going to revert your edit in order to restore the link to Wikisource. Moreover there are wrong underscores and Wikisource is not capitalized. If you feel I'm missing something in your remark, please feel free to write me again. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 14:03, 11 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Basilicofresco for that explanation. I do not see that your expansion of the footnote helps a reader, who if actually interested would have to make the link to see what it is supposed to mean. I have therefore reinserted the explicit words in the text, together with the ref. as you propose. Can we leave it at that? Qexigator (talk) 20:25, 11 August 2012 (UTC) (repetition removed Qexigator (talk) 21:37, 11 August 2012 (UTC))Reply

Ok. I just removed underscores in Paul_George_Konody and moved the footnote within the brackets. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 06:17, 12 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that's neater. Also, the Wikisource link offers further links to Bordone and Donatello, and to the Who's Who and portrait refs for Konody, which may be useful for an inquiring reader. Qexigator (talk) 07:24, 12 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Your bot is damaging articles edit

See, for example:

This is a user reverting your bot's edit. The bot is tightening up adjacent ref tags, which is fine in prose, but is quite inappropriate in Help:Footnotes#List-defined_references, where they are usually spaced out a bit for readability. Please fix this as soon as possible. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 09:12, 14 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Stub edit

A page named "Dudhra" is a stub with non-reliable sources and un-cited details, which reflects personal advertisment for the clan referred in the article. Wikipedia says you published or contributed to an article on boxer Frankie Fleming. He is (unfortunately) an osbcure figure and I was curious where you got the information. It's a mess... it is not easy to fix because every language has to be fixed in order to create different groups of articles: all the translations of Filippo, all the translations of Felipe, and so on. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 16:38, 22 August 2012 (UTC) My bot does not work on interwikies, you could ask some help to an interwiki bot operator: they probably know how fix it in the proper way. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 16:41, 22 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hill 70 edit edit

I looked at you recent edit but found it difficult to see what had been edited at times. An example is </ref> where there is a coloured bar after the > on the edit summary or a square coloured block. Is there somewhere on Wiki which explains things like this? I noticed too that Predicted fire was changed to predicted. Does it follow that you don't necessarily have to do a with any capital letters for it to work without a |(lower case) ? ThanksKeith-264 (talk) 18:24, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) Assuming that you are referring to this edit, most of it is removal of superfluous spaces, either at the ends of lines or where two spaces had been used when one would have done. The change of predicted fire to predicted fire is, as you surmise, because the case of the first letter is unimportant: see Help:Link#Wikilinks where it states "The link target is case-sensitive except for the first character ..." --Redrose64 (talk) 19:37, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, that's most helpful. I've occasionally seen an errant double space (usually done by me). When there's a letterbox with a minus sign does that mean that there was a double space at the end of a line of text then? Thanks for the link too.Keith-264 (talk) 08:46, 14 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi! You can see the removed spaces within the letterbox: they are highlighted in yellow. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 17:02, 14 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) Not sure what you mean by "a letterbox with a minus sign"; but there is an explanation of page diffs at Help:Diff. Text removed is shown on the left with an orange background, and at this edit I see several cases where there is an orange background but no text over that background, such as in the middle of a line "15 August to 25 August 1917" or at the end of a line "p. 297</ref> ". These orange rectangles with no text indiacte positions where spaces were removed. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:12, 14 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
There are a couple of empty narrow rectangles with a + and a - sign. In some big rectangles with chunks of text there is a black outline also with + and - but I can't see an amendment. Obviously when someone edits things I have written, I look so I can learn from them but as usual when I look for a wiki guide it's useless; only the ones recommended by other people help (they usually assume too much knowledge to be helpful to me). Anyway, thanks for replying, I've learnt something already.;O)Keith-264 (talk) 00:02, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
In that edit the bot removed also several trailing spaces at the end of the line. Take a look after the last full stop within the letterboxes. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 06:20, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
