Your question on help-desk edit

Probably Nomex; there's also CarbonX (no article on that, but you'll find details online). There's no generic English term for fire-retardant fabrics, apart from, um, "fire-retardant"... which is realistic at least. Or "fire-proof"... which is not. The Machu Antartic Base article edit

I have checked it and the English is as good as it can be, no great thanks to me! But I thought you might like to know and remove it from the translation request page. Saludos. Richard Avery (talk) 15:07, 2 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, someone took it down about 1 hour after I noted it needed no more work. Ah well no damage done - I probably should have taken it down my self. Bueno, nada más. Hasta la proxima. Richard Avery (talk) 13:37, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Translating Montevideo & Uruguay topics edit

Hi Andreateletrabajo, thank you for the translation help offer. I also live in Montevideo but my Spanish is not yet good enough to say very much beyond basics, but I can also translate from Spanish to English (well, rather slowly). I translated some parts of the Montevideo article and some Montevideo hospital articles. I also try to bring some life back to Wikipedia:WikiProject Uruguay but there are not enough active members to make any useful group work there. There are many main topics missing from Uruguay. I think each one should judge by oneself what is the most important. Some like sports most and indeed this is the best covered sector of Uruguay topics. There ia a page here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Uruguay/Needed articles which might be good to check, but you are welcome to add there any topics you feel are missing too. Then check if any of these topics is covered in the Spanish Wiki and pick your choice. I would say that this [1] might be a nice article to have in English, for a start, but I let you decide. You might also like to be a participant in WikiProject Uruguay, in which case you can list your name here: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Uruguay/Participants/list. Best regards, Hoverfish Talk 02:34, 20 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Redirects edit

Re. "I´ve got any idea of how to correct a redirection here" on Wikipedia:Help_desk#reticular_theory,

I thought it might be better if I answered here.

I notice that you nominated Reticular theory for deletion; please, forgive me, but I 'undid' that, because it is not an article - we have a separate process for redirects, Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion - I'll come back to that later, after trying to explain;

(Accepting that the redir may well be 'wrong'...it's best if I explain how to change, and/or get it deleted)

As of now, Reticular theory is a redirect to Santiago Ramón y Cajal. So, if you go to Reticular theory, it automatically redirects.

That is because the page "Reticular theory" contains the following.

#redirect [[Santiago_Ramón_y_Cajal#Works_and_theories]]

That's it; just one line.

When you go to Reticular theory, notice that at the top of the page, just below the title, is an extra line;

Santiago Ramón y Cajal

A start-class article from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

(Redirected from Reticular theory)

The special link, in that last line, is to http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Reticular_theory&redirect=no

If you click it, you get to the actual page, and it can then be edited in the normal way - ie, it can be changed to another target, or nominated for discussion.

Now - regarding changing it, or deleting it;

We don't often delete redirects, unless they are actually harmful (for example, if a redirect "Big Fat Loser" pointed to a famous person). We have a saying, Redirects are cheap.

If you do think it should be deleted, then WP:RFD is the place - not AfD. But, instead, I suggest fixing it; make it point to a better target. Such as, perhaps, Neuron doctrine or even just Neuron - whatever you think; I'm no expert.

An alternative would be, to write a short 'stub' article about Reticular theory - but that would, of course, need a few references to reliable sources.

I hope this is helpful to you, and I'm happy to help you more. If you feel it really should be deleted, then that is certainly possible, too; let me know. Best,  Chzz  ►  13:31, 6 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re: Serious matter edit

I really can't comment on the matter with any certainty because I just don't know all the context. If this is an es.wiki issue, it should really be discussed there instead of here. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 18:06, 8 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

As far as I know I have not communicated with the user; I am unsure exactly what this correspondence was supposed to be, but if it was about an es.wiki matter I can't imagine I gave counsel (and in any case it's not binding.) Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 19:08, 8 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Your HighBeam account is ready! edit

Good news! You now have access to 80 million articles in 6500 publications through HighBeam Research. Here's what you need to know:

  • Your account activation code has been emailed to your Wikipedia email address.
    • Only 407 of 444 codes were successfully delivered; most failed because email was simply not set up (You can set it in Special:Preferences).
    • If you did not receive a code but were on the approved list, add your name to this section and we'll try again.
  • The 1-year, free period begins when you enter the code.
  • To activate your account: 1) Go to http://www.highbeam.com/prof1; 2) You’ll see the first page of a two-page registration. 3) Put in an email address and set up a password. (Use a different email address if you signed up for a free trial previously); 4) Click “Continue” to reach the second page of registration; 5) Input your basic information; 6) Input the activation code; 7) Click “Finish”. Note that the activation codes are one-time use only and are case-sensitive.
  • If you need assistance, email "help at highbeam dot com", and include "HighBeam/Wikipedia" in the subject line. Or go to WP:HighBeam/Support, or ask User:Ocaasi. Please, per HighBeam's request, do not call the toll-free number for assistance with registration.
  • A quick reminder about using the account: 1) try it out; 2) provide original citation information, in addition to linking to a HighBeam article; 3) avoid bare links to non-free HighBeam pages; 4) note "(subscription required)" in the citation, where appropriate
  • HighBeam would love to hear feedback at WP:HighBeam/Experiences
  • Show off your HighBeam access by placing {{User:Ocaasi/highbeam_userbox}} on your userpage
  • When the 1-year period is up, check applications page to see if renewal is possible. We hope it will be.

Thanks for helping make Wikipedia better. Enjoy your research! Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 20:31, 13 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Niño Soldado edit

Hello, thank you for your translation, it is good, and your english is also good. But still it is not clear for me, whether he had fought against Dias or against Huerta. As I understand from the text, first Delgado served under Villia and fought against Huerta, and then federals forced him to fight against Villia. Am I right? And I need to know what uniform the boy is wearing on the photo, is it form of Huerta troops or Villia forces? I need answers only for this two questions, cause I need to put description under photo in my article. Can you help me to clarify this points?--Mexicanec (talk) 18:57, 2 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oh, thanks, that's exactly what I needed, as we say in russian - "то, что доктор прописал"=)--Mexicanec (talk) 19:31, 2 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • But let me ask one more question, battle at Hacienda de Buenavista was the last battle of Delgado or he continued serving under Huerta? And why is he called "last survivors of the Northern Division", if he is Huerta's and not Villia's soldier?--Mexicanec (talk) 19:44, 2 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
    Thank you again. But I didn't understand about which Huerta the text from commons is telling about. Because as far as I know Victoriano Huerta was not executed by Villia, he died in US prison of cirrhosis of the liver. If the text from commons telling about this man, it is not only copyvio, but also unreliable source.--Mexicanec (talk) 22:13, 2 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I see. Thank's a lot. The last question, are you sure about the uniform? --Mexicanec (talk) 23:13, 2 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Message from Búfalo Barreto edit

Miss Ganímedes, I'm Búfalo Barreto. You blocked my account in the Spanish Wikipedia. Please understand, I do not want to vandalize pages. I created a page called Comité Ejecutivo Nacional del Partido Aprista Peruano and I don't understand what is the problem of this page. Many editors have destroyed my created page. Could you explain me why did yo block my account in spanish wikipedia. I'm very concerned because I cannot edit any more pages about peruvian politics. I recently created the National Executive Committee of the Peruvian Aprista Party page on this day, and it's the same thing I created in Spanish Wikipedia. Many english editors like RJFF have commented my good edits and my new created page. I'm new in Wikipedia, and I would like to improve Wikipedia as a good editor. Please forgive me for any inconvenience. Please if you could answer in spanish on my "blocked page". Kind Regards Búfalo Barreto (talk) 01:49, 18 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Nada personal, eh? Es que Wikipedia es una mierda y tu discusión es muy divertida para bandalisar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.150.85.38 (talk) 02:05, 13 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Ganímedes - just wanted to let you know that I designed another VRT logo that makes it easier to see the letters, especially when using the logo as a topicon. In the event you'd like to update the image you added at Wikipedia:VRT, see the Commons image which works much better when reduced to topicon size:   vs  .
