"The Signpost – Volume 15, Issue 2 – 28 February 2019" submission to WikimediaAnnounce-l edit

The Wikimedia Foundation's Communications department is tasked with moderating the WikimediaAnnounce-l mailing list, which the Signpost has submitted an email to promoting this month's edition, as they do for each edition. We received multiple reports of concerns related to potentially harmful content in the February 2019 edition of the Signpost, and were asked to consider rejecting the email promoting this month's edition. In consultation with the Foundation's Community Engagement department, we agree with those concerns and have therefore rejected the email promoting this month's edition.

We invite the volunteers working on the Signpost, if they are interested, to reach out to me (gvarnum wikimedia.org) with any questions or if you would like to discuss this further. --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 00:44, 2 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Personal note: Additionally, I want to encourage the community to heed the editorial team's call for help. I have been reading the Signpost since 2007 and continue to believe it has in the past, and can in the future, play an important role in the English Wikipedia community. However, like all things in the wiki world - that will only happen if individuals within the community not only share their concerns, but if they are able and willing, step up to help. The Communications department will continue to support the efforts of the Signpost as requested and as we are able. --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 00:45, 2 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
@GVarnum-WMF: Speaking on my own opinion, I don't think the WMF specifically agrees with everything we publish simply because the email I sent to the mailing list can be rejected by you. I find your rejection of my email to be an empty political gesture bowing to political pressure from braying sheeple. Thank you for letting us know that the WMF took this step. Our other distribution methods reach our audience and if you think the people on the mailing list are too frail to bear reading our words then surely Facebook and Twitter will suffice. "political pressure from braying sheeple" is that the official reply from the Signpost? Double checking, so that any consequences are made with good, full, information. -- (talk) 01:22, 2 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

WMF not agreeing with a post is something, having transphobic material is something else... Ladsgroupoverleg 13:12, 2 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
