Move of LRT line articles

I have just posted a move request regarding the LRT line articles at [[1]]. Please comment and add your opinions to the discussion. R22-3877 (talk) 14:31, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

What's with the removal of the station layouts and last train timings from MRT station pages?

Lots of MRT station pages have lost their station layout and last train timings. Why is this so? An example will be the removal from Tampines MRT Station as seen here . It isn't helpful that many of these removals are done by one person who doesn't seem familiar with the train system here. Mattsung (talk) 15:32, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Firstly, Wikipedia is not a travel guide, that is why you do not need that information on first and last train timings. Operators' websites are there. Secondly, Wikipedia is not a guidebook information, but however we can then infer that MRT stations will go cashless in due course. Thirdly, I do foresee that some of the exits are removed from the respective pages, it could be for security reasons but it can be found on operators' websites. Timothy H2 (talk) 00:07, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
Tim is absolutely correct we're not a brochure - If you want train times and train exits then look at the train operates website and a map too,
It's no different to someone putting the exits of a Singapore shopping centre .... they're not needed and they're only relevant to the locals of that station .... –Davey2010Talk 03:56, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
Disagree - Firstly, station layout and exits benefit not just locals but also millions of tourists who visit Singapore each year. Secondly, security concern raised by Timothy should not be an issue since these info are already in public domain cached somewhere on the Internet. Thirdly, a search on similar Wikipedia articles for Hong Kong[1] and New York[2] contains such information. There is no reason to use a different yardstick for Singapore. Jane Dawson (talk) 05:18, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
Well we're not a brochure - Millions of bus station articles don't have exits because it's not notable and rather pointless.... As for those 2 articles - I've removed the brochure from those too. –Davey2010Talk 13:42, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
Well, I also changed the layouts of Taipei Metro stations as well. And to tell you, Wikipedia is not a guide too. We will do the same for all metro stations around the world. Timothy H2 (talk) 08:30, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
Regarding this issue I noticed while lowercasing LRT pages that some LRT stations still have the layouts. Do i remove them too? 1.02 editor (talk) 07:47, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
Go ahead. R22-3877 (talk) 10:19, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

Is there a copyeditor that is willing to help out at Sengkang? There are still some issues to be addressed. Thanks 1.02 editor (talk) 01:50, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Pink Dot SG

I'm new to Wikipedia (but am a long-time copy editor in real life) and I saw that Pink Dot SG was in need of a copy edit, so I have done that. I made mostly very minor changes to clean up and smooth out the writing. The article still has issues with referencing, though, including some dead links, spots that should be referenced but aren't, and apparently too many primary sources. That's all beyond my capability on Wikipedia at the moment, but I wanted to raise it here in case someone wanted to take that on. Ashram molter (talk) 14:50, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

WikiProject Singaporean trains

Recently I have been considering wether to start a new project called WikiProject Singaporean Trains (alt:WikiProject Trains in Singapore), to deal specifically with the 200+ Pages related to trains in Singapore. I would like your opinion on wether to create this as an independent project or make it a task force of WP:TWP. I would prefer an independent project, but if other editors feel that the scope is not broad enough, I won't mind asking for a new task force at TWP. Since a large portion of WP:SG is related to trains, I don't mind setting up somethings independent so that our work doesn't get tangled with the rest of WP:SG. Please do voice your opinion below. Thanks. 1.02 editor (C651 set 217/218) 02:29, 28 April 2018 (UTC)

Moral Support- I will prefer it to be a so called task force under WP:SG then WP:TWP as there's more relevancy to WP:SG than WP:TWP and we can establish local notability criteria. If we do it under transport, many of the articles may be PRODed (e.g. if Gek Poh MRT station is created as part of JRL - I am just hypothetically saying, giving so many site surveys, but don't get hopes high - then someone will just say WP:TOOSOON, WP:CRYSTAL and etc) or just go to Afd. The advantages of Singapore pages is that they don't usually ended up at Afd so easily, I know the recent mass deletion of Bus related contents, but if you base on SG notability criteria it will be safer as it will be having a more local context. I am also for this is that we can establish our own kind of notablity criteria which can save pages as there are really people bent on deleting everything they see, irregardless of sourcing. Do see how I and a few collaborators saved a station from deletion [2]. There are clear sources, stub-class edvident. Pictures are there and then someone just simply did an Afd saying is sockpuppet. I will propose the following notability criteria to be included if such a project is being set up. Bascially coverage in 2 or more sources in [3] will be notable, or in any independent media coverage overseas (which are deemed to be notable in their current languages). However, 1. who will be maning the project, we need to have a number of people, 2. I do not think too much of content of SG is based on trains, just the rest aren't that updated. 3. If there are any problems, will an admin be available (e.g. Mailer diablo?). --Quek157 (talk) 18:28, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
response: 1.when I proposed this I was prepared to run the project, albeit with the help of other Editors. 2. That's why I wanted a separate project 3. The admin does not need to be a local admin right?. also the name WP Singaporean trains suggests that it is affiliated to singapore rather than TWP. (E.g. WP Trains In Japan suggests that it is affiliated to TWP first rather than Japan).
With recent GA review, I feel this is right for a delicated project to be set up. We will then define how the articles should go in general as there is significant differences between other countries system vs ours. Will elaborate if there is time with the GA now still running I should be back there. Will hope there will be people to man (I may not be able to heklp man due to time concerns) Quek157 (talk) 14:20, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

GAs

Can we instead of the ga drive format we collaborate together on a single article and bring it up to GA/FA? Singapore would be a good start. 1.02 editor (talk) 01:07, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

It may be a good idea to put Singapore on peer review first to get a general idea of what needs to be done to get it up to FA status. ~ KN2731 {tc} 14:02, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
Sure, don't mind if you put it under PR as my quota is currently used. Thanks 1.02 editor (C651 set 217/218) 14:17, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
Actually upon some examination the main outstanding issues are updating the article with more recent info and the culture section. So there may not really be an immediate need for a PR. ~ KN2731 {tc} 13:17, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
Forgot to ask do you intend on getting Singapore to GA or FA? I would prefer to nominate it for GA first, then FA (FAC is not a nice place to be, I'll rather it go through GA first as it was delisted and hence is not FA-ready) 1.02 editor (C651 set 217/218) 09:09, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
I agree that GA is a good starting point given the current state of the article. WP:MOS compliance isn't anywhere near FA level yet, and some parts of the history section may need to be rewritten for neutrality. ~ KN2731 {tc} 14:20, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

Calling all project members

please help to get Singapore to GA/FA. Any good faith contributions is most welcome. A list of possible problems is listed here. Thanks! 1.02 editor (C651 set 217/218) 09:05, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

Automated peer review

FYI

  • Avoid including galleries in articles, as per Wikipedia:Galleries. Common solutions to this problem include moving the gallery to wikicommons or integrating images with the text.[?]
  • Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (numbers), please spell out source units of measurements in text; for example, the Moon is 380,000 kilometres (240,000 mi) from Earth.[?] Specifically, an example is . Ng.
  • Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings), headings generally should not repeat the title of the article. For example, if the article was Ferdinand Magellan, instead of using the heading ==Magellan's journey==, use ==Journey==.[?]
  • Per WP:WIAFA, this article's table of contents (ToC) may be too long – consider shrinking it down by merging short sections or using a proper system of daughter pages as per Wikipedia:Summary style.[?]
  • Please make the spelling of English words consistent with either American or British spelling, depending upon the subject of the article. Examples include: behaviour (B) (American: behavior), harbor (A) (British: harbour), neighbor (A) (British: neighbour), neighbour (B) (American: neighbor), favorite (A) (British: favourite), meter (A) (British: metre), defence (B) (American: defense), offence (B) (American: offense), organise (B) (American: organize), recognize (A) (British: recognise), recognise (B) (American: recognize), criticise (B) (American: criticize), ization (A) (British: isation), isation (B) (American: ization), curb (A) (British: kerb), programme (B) (American: program ), skeptic (A) (British: sceptic).
  • The script has spotted the following contractions: Doesn't, can't, if these are outside of quotations, they should be expanded.
  • As done in WP:FOOTNOTE, footnotes usually are located right after a punctuation mark (as recommended by the CMS, but not mandatory), such that there is no space in between. For example, the sun is larger than the moon [2]. is usually written as the sun is larger than the moon.[2][?]
  • Please provide citations for all of the {{fact}}s.[?]
  • Please ensure that the article has gone through a thorough copyediting so that it exemplifies some of Wikipedia's best work. See also User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 1a.[?]

You may wish to browse through User:AndyZ/Suggestions for further ideas.

Heart of God Church

Apparently there are many WP:SPA accounts trying to remove any evidence of affiliation with City Harvest Church , I rather not get into an edit war. Can the active members/admin help to deal with it?

Final note

Hi SGpedians, please do check out my final essay if you're free. I penned (or typed) it from the heart, and I think that people should try to understand my feelings. Nomination of 2018 in Singapore and other "XXXX in Singapore" articles for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article 2018 in Singapore, and other similar articles on years in Singapore, is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2018 in Singapore until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. ~ KN2731 {tc} 10:37, 2 June 2018 (UTC)

Help needed with table entries

A COI editor has asked for help in making additions to the table at List of international schools in Singapore. There's a lack of certainty to whether the editor making the request knows how to create markup or doesn't care to know (the editor has indicated a desire to learn). There may be a language barrier. Any help that can be given to Whyejay in overcoming a slight learning curve with regards to H:TABLES would be most appreciated. Please note that the article has had, and continues to have, issues regarding the placement of spam, resulting in its semi-protected status. FYI.  spintendo  08:03, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

Shouldn't the Meetup announcment be removed ?

It's super out of date and irrelevant. I would remove it but i'm not sure I have the permission to do so.Zubin12 (talk) 07:54, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

Well, it should but apparently no one has removed it yet... 1.02 editor (C651 set 217/218) 01:53, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
Done. Do feel free to edit as needed! --Xaiver0510 (talk) 04:29, 2 July 2018 (UTC)

RTS as mrt line?

I believe the title explains my query. Should RTS be included as a mrt line or kept separate. Please voice your opinion below. Thanks - 1.02 editor (C651 set 217/218) 11:27, 2 July 2018 (UTC)

I will keep it separate, as it is a railway linking two countries, not exactly a single Country/City mass rapid transit system. --Xaiver0510 (talk) 02:59, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Member list on project page

I done some checking on the project members and split them into active member and inactive member sections, purely on last edit within 6 months which I arbitrarily chosen. If I accidentally removed any members, please add them back. If I sorted them into the wrong group, please shift them also (red links is correct as some never created a userpage).

With this sorting done, if you want more editors working on topics, do tag them here / leave a message at their talkpage / etc. Hopefully this will increase their participation here as some prefer to just edit on their own. --Xaiver0510 (talk) 10:15, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Itchy fingers so I moved the members section to a subpage to make project page "shorter" and focus more on the project!. Member page is now found here! --Xaiver0510 (talk) 03:30, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

Creating a formal Wikimedia Chapter

There was previously an aborted attempt at creating a formal Singapore Wikimedia Chapter, that didn't work out for unknown reasons. Perhaps it's time for another attempt to be made at creating such a chapter, given that the small size of the island allowing with a significant number of active contributors make starting a formal group an easier endeavour than it would be otherwise. Would anybody be interested in perhaps attempting to establish an attempt to start a formal chapter? How do I join the project ?

Is there a place where I have to put down my username or something? Zubin12 (talk) 02:49, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

Zubin12 Welcome! You can read this section for some information! Technically there is no membership but as long as you participate, or just silent reading this page, or put some userbox on your user page, you are considered one already! Do feel free to engage on any topics or create topics here! We can be a bit quiet here but I see that some of us do respond directly to some discussion topics posted here. --Xaiver0510 (talk) 06:58, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

anyone knows why we always meet at the same place? I will need to check if I am free to attend. 1.02 editor (C651 set 217/218) 05:12, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
For this meetup, this allow the other users to navigate the library while waiting for others. For future meetups, we can hold it in other venues. Time to do some catch up as we had no in-person meetup for quite sometime now. --Exec8 (talk) 07:53, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
the SGpedian community is fairly small so meetups are quite uncommon (last one in 2016?). Also a sizeable portion of us are studying or have demanding schedules leaving us with little free time. 1.02 editor (C651 set 217/218) 12:34, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
I cant provide any banner on the meetup but you can check my picture. --Exec8 (talk) 08:07, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
