Copyright violations

Please note that many articles on Singapore buildings and locations look to be massive copyright violation, with some articles appearing to be almost entirely copied verbatim from the book Singapore's 100 Historic Places. I have marked some of them, for example Masjid Omar Kampong Melaka, Masjid Sultan, Central Fire Station, Singapore, Farrer Park, Old Ministry of Labour Building, Jinrikisha Station, and Former Saint Joseph's Institution. I'm trying to rewrite some of them, but the job is so massive it is going to take quite a while, so if you can help rewrite these articles or sections, please do so. If you can check the edits of the editor responsible here against current content, and rewrite them where you can it would be helpful. Otherwise we might have to delete a large number of articles. Thank you for posting this. I will try to go through when I am free. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 19:39, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

If you are active, post here! Call for members - Improving articles about places in Singapore

Hello everyone! Wikiproject Singapore seems to be inactive although I did observe individual members editing. It would be great if we could collaborate and work together again!

Recently MageLam and I were looking at articles of places in Singapore. Many of them are outdated, broken and confusing. These articles need work but we also need to lay down some naming conventions for Singaporean places (for example, how to differentiate a "Planning Area" from an "HDB Town"). Other Wikiprojects have guidelines about place names, but we don't. Hence, this post!

If you are still actively editing Wikipedia and want to help out, please post your username below, (optional:tell us what you feel about SG place articles) and sign it. You don't need to be very active; as long as you are willing to help out it is OK. I will post more details later once I see some names here.

Singapore Swap Offer Rate (SOR) - a mistake in the article's title

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore_Swop_Offer_Rate_(SOR)

In the title it should not be "Swop" but rather "Swap". Thanks for changing :)

Best regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emblem71 (talkcontribs) 01:00, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Moved to Singapore Swap Offer Rate (SOR). (Actually the short form could be removed entirely from the title). Thank you for letting us know Emblem71 --Lemongirl942 (talk) 10:15, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

Requested move about 1962 referendum in Singapore

There a proposal to rename Singaporean integration referendum, 1962 to Singapore national referendum, 1962. Inviting inputs from interested editors at Talk:Singaporean_integration_referendum,_1962#Requested_move_10_March_2017. Thank you. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 13:00, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

Addition of "The Honourable" to Members of Parliament

Recently there has been a spat of additions of the designation "The Honourable" to the articles of the various Members of Parliament. It happens on and off, and has been a hassle to correct. From what I understand from one editor, he/she assumes that just because we used to follow the Commonwealth system, which sometimes use this designation, Singapore should similarly follow suit. As far as I know, our system has diverged from the Commonwealth "template" over the years - for example, the Nominated Member of Parliament is unique to our system. Or if I am mistake, please correct me. Hope for more eyes on this. Thanks! @Lemongirl942@Smuconlaw@Timothyhouse1@SMailer diablo. Zhanzhao (talk) 12:52, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

The editor has added [1] into the Singapore subsection of The Honourable article, but I went through his provided link, and beyond naming a judge with that designation, it does not state that MPs should be accorded the same "honour". Zhanzhao (talk) 13:46, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
I had a discussion with Reddotparty on this issue at Talk:Parliament of Singapore, and as a result of some research I did I amended the article to state: "The use of the honorific 'the Honourable' is not required by the Standing Orders of Parliament, but during a 1988 parliamentary debate the Leader of the House, Wong Kan Seng, said it would be polite for MPs to refer to their colleagues using the terms 'Mr.', 'Honourable Mr.' or 'Honourable Minister' depending on their choice." Thus, there is a case for arguing that we should not add "the Honourable" as an honorific to all articles about MPs. — SMUconlaw (talk) 13:49, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. I do recall the discussion you had with Reddotparty, but forgot where it was and ended up digging through the talk pages of the different politicians instead. Zhanzhao (talk) 00:48, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
In any case, seems weird, might be a tagteam effort between 2 editors targeting a whole range of politician articles. Zhanzhao (talk) 01:41, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
I updated "The Honourable#Singapore", adding relevant references. — SMUconlaw (talk) 12:00, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

Hong Kong–Singapore relations

Hi, I recently tagged Hong Kong–Singapore relations with {{proofreader needed}}. The quality of the English looks fine, but as a non-Chinese speaker I can't evaluate the accuracy of the translation; I'm only tagging it because this is an important article translated from 香港與新加坡關係 with virtually all the work done by a single editor, and additional eyeballs are always helpful. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 23:51, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

FLRC of List of tallest buildings in Singapore

I have nominated List of tallest buildings in Singapore for featured list removal here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets the featured list criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks; editors may declare to "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Ding Yi Music Company

Would someone mind taking a look at this article and assessing it? I'm not sure if the group is notable per WP:BAND and the content seems a bit promotional. Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:56, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Bloated Infotab on Singapore President articles

There's an editor who has been going to the different articles of the presidents of Singapore and adding the temporary presidents (nominally the Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers who take on the role until the new president is elected) into the info-tabs. I had mentioned to him that other countries, such as Israel which has a similar "Interim and Acting President of Israel" system, does not lead to them having these interim/acting presidents named on the infotab, but he has been quite insistent.

  1. Yusof Ishak [2]
  2. Benjamin Sheares [3]
  3. Devan Nair [4]
  4. Wee Kim Wee [5]
  5. Tony Tan [6]

@Sgconlaw:, as the expert on the issue, hope you can weigh in on this? Or anyone else with a better grasp of the constitution than me? Else the infotab is just going to be bloated and frankly IMHO, the "acting/interim president" being named there is redundant. Zhanzhao (talk) 23:08, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Please monitor this IP

Would SGpedian editors please monitor this IP: 42.61.246.68 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) because an editor has been repeatedly making false claims, especially about the MRT/LRT. Thanks! ««« SOME GADGET GEEK »»» (talk) 16:05, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

I agree. They have removed many of the useful station schematics and first/last train timings. I think they can be kept. Will revert in seven days if no action is suggested here. Mattsung (talk) 14:21, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Website Mothership as reliable source?

Will the website Mothership serves as a reliable source?

Thanks! --09:38, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

Mothership is founded by former Minister George Yeo and has close links with PAP.[1] It is best to quote from an array of sources such as the Independent, the Online Citizen and Yahoo News to achieve a balance, especially on issues pertaining to politics. Jane Dawson (talk) 10:38, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
Above what you have said, Mothership is still a blog and Wikipedia does not cite from blogs. Furthermore, its political affiliation to the PAP brings it further from a neutral point of view. -1.02 editor (talk) 04:58, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
Reliability depends on context. There is no hard and fast rules to classify a website as a "blog" just because it uses Wordpress Engine or is written in blog format. Mothership reports on news and is classified by MDA as a news website, similar to the Independent and TOC. The point is to be aware of the political agenda carried by different news organization, differentiate statement of facts from opinions, and add content of encyclopedic value.
