australian internationals

Today, the ARL announced that WorldCup games would be equal to Test matches for all australians.

Previously, players only had their test matches recorded against their nmes.

Now both are counted.

Eg. Darren Lockyer has played 36 tests, but now is considered to have played 41.

We may need to change various players infoboxs.

Important news. Thanks for letting us know Joel. So this means the Australian rep appearances in the infobox needs to make no distinction between Test and World Cup. Generally I've been doing this of late but there are certainly instances eg Brian Clay where an update is needed. I wonder what this means about the reference to "full international" where due to this distinction Stephen Knight (rugby footballer) for instance was not called a full RL international. If the match was not played against another international side, I don't think it should be considered a full international. Tour matches against local clubs aren't tests or world cup matches or full internationals. It is for this reason that Wayne Bennett has a zero next to Australia in his infobox. It's important to show that he was selected and did tour with the Kangaroos (playing some matches against local clubs there), but he didn't play against New Zealand.--Jeff79 (talk) 12:56, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Let's be quite clear about this and what we're agreeing as a result of this NRL reclassification:

Stephen Knight (rugby footballer) only played two RWC pool games, they were always Intls just not Tests & in some books and some of our articles a distinction has been made between the two. As a result of the NRL reclassification we no longer need make the distinction.

Wayne Bennett played only tour matches and Jeff how you propose we show that in the infobox is by having the Australian rep classification appear but with (0) next to it. I'm not sure this is necessarily a crystal-clear disclosure but like you I don't necessarily believe that an Infobox needs tell the full story since that's what the body of an article is for. So in the absence of a better suggestion I agree with the approach.

I think it's important to clarify though that Bennett was undoubtedly an International. Similarly Jim Lisle is unquestionably referred to as a dual-code international even though all his RL national appearances were only tour matches. Perhaps we should just leave this "full international" distinction to other sources. So I'm sorry I brought it up. Sticks66 07:30, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

I put them on the Brisbane Broncos articles, but I'd thought you'd remove them off to the history page. I replaced these images with Image:BRONCOS-shirt.svg on the Justin Hodges page.

They are in the public domain, but someone on Wikipedia will look at the image, it has no identification of what it is, where it came from. And they will say, well it's suspisious, so delete it. Just a URL, just something to source what it is or when it was made or where it is from.  The Windler talk  01:21, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about that. When i was given information on how to use those pre 1955 images they forgot to mention what other info may need to be cited. From looking at it, it would be advisable to add the reason it passes the rationale, such as 'taken pre 1955' and the url of site it was found at. As far as pre 1955 images that state they are still copyright, i cant say if they can be used or not, as they may have had copyright renewed upon them before expiring. Team of the Century

As the Team of the Century will be announced next Thursday night, should we organise a format for the player's articles? I also wondered if it would be possible to use the official graphic on the articles? Would it pass muster do you think? •Florrie•leave a note• 02:22, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

I'd suggest that the Article reference just lead on from the sentence that we put in for the 100 (with another appropriate citation of course). And perhaps a NavBox ? Graphic ? We'll I don't know much about that. -Sticks66 05:45, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

eg In February 2008, Churchill was named in the list of Australia's 100 Greatest Players (1908-2007) which was commissioned by the NRL and ARL to celebrate the code's centenary year in Australia. That same year Churchill was selected in the "Team of the Century" being the panels' majority choice of the best selection for each of the 13 positions + 4 interchange.

Position field in Infobox

Am I right in thinking that because the Position field is a sub-set of "Current Club" then I have to have an entry in Club in order for the position to show ? If so this seems a little clunky. I don't mind inserting "Retired" for recent players but with some of the old timers either "Retired" or "Deceased" seems a bit crass . What do we think ? -Sticks66 12:55, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't agree with putting 'retired' or 'deceased' there at all. Its purpose is to show what position a person plays or played at. Just looking at the years the player was playing will show you quickly if he's retired, along with the very first sentence of most players' articles. Certainly a player's position is something that should be shown 'at-a-glance' in the infobox. I'm convinced that that is its intended purpose.--Jeff79 (talk) 13:05, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Template syntax

I propose that we seperate the years a player plays at a place.

That didn't make sense, even to me, so I use examples.

For Brad Fittler, he played with Penrith between 1989–1995 and in the template the syntax is:

| year1 = 1989&!ndash;1995

But I question, other than us dedicated rugby league project users, who is going to put the &!ndash; (Even I admit that I hardly do it)(The ! is there to prevent it doing the dash)

But if we seperate the parameter to say:

| year1start = 1989
| year1end = 1995

And in the template syntax it puts the dash there, it would be easier.  The Windler talk  02:07, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Florrie, I have done the Wests Tigers 2008 jerseys, and am working on their previous ones now. The 08 ones are on my gallery page.

I have done all jerseys except the Warriors, Raiders, Sharks, old Gold Coast, Hunter, Knights, , Parramatta, Penirth, Norths and Western Reds (and Wests Tigers). Though most of them I plan to do soon, except Warriors. The Windler talk  06:23, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Position of Choice

Since we're all for canvassing each other at the moment to try to get consensus. here's one from me. I really struggle with the body-copy assertionHis position of choice is at....... Do we really know a player's position of choice ? And mightn't it change over his career ? Today I saw one that said Greg Bird's position of choice is either second row, lock or five-eighth. What, can't he make his mind up ? My suggestion is that we make only a factual assertion eg He plays at either...... or He played most of his career at ...... Or as a complete alternative sometimes work it into a broader leading paragraph Greg Bird is a representative Australian RL blah-blah, a lock-forward whose club career is with blah-blah... Yep, I just picked it up from existing articles and went with it - that or primarily plays at which I prefer. More than happy to expand it, re-word it. On that - can we keep to one position (primary position) in the infobox? Sorry I think this might all track back to myself. I think I would originally have taken this from a former rugby union players page. While it is fine for a player who no longer played the game, and indeed have a position that he preferred it holds water, it probably does rankle a few, possibly even myself. The reason I have used it is that primarily plays at needs as much a citation as choice. Is, plays as, as, all have merits. Looking through a variety of sporting articles over the last year there does not appear to be a standard that is adhered to. Probably one out there, or an option or two that can be agreed upon.Londo06 19:56, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Eric Weissel Oval

Not sure how much progress has been made, but to me the major bone of contention seems to be whether to include non-current NRL and Super League clubs on the infobox. Navboxes

User:CapitalR is moving all the navboxes to 100%. If we are going to do the same, some people will have to put their hands up to sort out how the names are viewed within that box. The boxes were alligned for 80% so if there is a demand for the full-width then it should probably be posted here. I totally don't support 100% width (on tables or navboxes) but unfortunately Template:Navbox is now a standard. There's a discussion at the Village Pump at the moment regarding navbox colours and creep. If we use 80% width then it's only gonna be us. While rugby union seems to use 75% and the rest of wikipedia uses 100%. If union decides to follow the rest of wikipedia it will only be us that aren't 100% and then we'll probably change too. So why wait? Internally with the player names. Alot of them are all out of shape since they were moved from 80 to 100%. If we are to have a standard then shouldn't we sort out the boxes as well. Moved a couple of remaining navboxes to 100%. They seemed to be in the majority, I'm not sure of the outcome of consensus but it was the Template:Navbox RL squad that has now been set to full width.Londo06 13:33, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Jack Gibson Photo

There is Jack Gibson with his various quotes (of which many are still unlisted) and Rugby League with various quotes from different sources. Rugby League Week

I've just been doing a little work on the Rugby League Week article (primarily doing the infobox) and to get it a bit better I have a couple of requests:

• It'd be good to have a more recent cover image, since the one currently in the article is 18 years old and doesn't depict RLW's current visual style. I don't have any copies on hand at the moment, so if anyone does and feels like scanning and uploading a cover image they would have my undying gratitude.
• Also, we're missing the RLW Player of the Year for 2000, 2001 and 2005. Unfortunately RLW's website (or web page, more accurately) is not exactly comprehensive and doesn't have any details on this sort of thing, and I can't find anything on the open web. Does anyone have back copies or anything for these years?

Daily Advertiser really stuffed that up! They've got Chris Mortimer as Greg Brentball (when it's Brentnall) as a caption for there own photo. I'm going for Peter Mortimer. It was taken at the Centenary of Rugby League celebrations and jersey is also a Centenary of Rugby League and could be part of the 100 Greatest. Bulldogs renaming

A discussion re the naming of the Bulldogs articles occurred here at an article for deletion review. Have left a message on the talk page of the person who made the redirects, Brewcrewer, as well as at the deletion discussion, but so far no response. •Florrie•leave a note• 07:25, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

I think I have fixed it all. If anyone has a minute to check through the Bulldogs pages/links, I'd appreciate it. Bulldogs (rugby club) I was able to revert to Bulldogs Rugby League Football Club and I put a speedy on the 'rugby club' redirect. I couldn't revert the Canterbury Bulldogs History page so I moved it to Bulldogs Rugby League Football Club history in line with the main article. I've been through and picked up all, I think, of the old old redirects that were pointing to yet another redirect page and I've updated the Bulldogs (rugby league team) template. jersey

I have now completed all jerseys for all NSWRL/ARL/SL/NRL teams past and present (even the Wests Tigers and Warriors) as well as the NSW, QLD and Australia jerseys past and present. For the NZ national team I only have the present jersey, because of lack of info. Hope that helps and you are free to use them or look at them at Wikipedia:WikiProject Rugby league/Team jerseys. Um, I don't know how to make the images smaller on galleries. But they should only be four pictures wide, because people with 800x600 resolution, cant see a fifth.
